"Listen, fox, I swear - "
"Chill, Key, I told you nothing you say will change my mind" Sin smirked with a flick of their ears.
"This is dangerous, you're going to get yourself killed!" Key roared with a stomp of her paw. She scoffed next, "then again why should I care, go ahead" she mumbled with faux ferocity as she turned tail and left.
"Thought she'd never leave, always getting in my way, don't do this don't do that" Sin began to talk to themselves in their anger as they paced back and forth atop the hill. Their paws resting on the edge of a turtles shell as it teetered along the edge. "Well, now or never" they cried out as they pushed their bodyweight forward, the shell dangerously skidding down the grassy hill. All was well until one jagged rock sent Sin and the shell flying into the air and colliding into a nearby tree.
"What did I say?" Key's voice rang out, laced with anger yet concern.
"If you say I told you so -"
"Well, I did, I did tell you so" The bear interrupted.
----
"Think you two will ever get along?" The raven like flitz glanced to their friend with a questioning glare.
"Sin is to reckless, my heart can't handle all the danger that child goes through" The bear flitz hissed with annoyance, as if she was upset that the raven would even suggest that.
"You're a child too" Crawan laughed with a gentle tap to the flitz head, "Just have a very...old soul?" his voice flexed as he tilted his head in amusement.
"I may be young but Sin is the one who's a child. Did you see their latest stunt?" Key glanced up to the heavens before returning her gaze to him as he shook his head. "They purposefully stuck their head in a bee hive, something about becoming the queen, ridiculous!" she ranted with a huff.
"They're definitely an interesting one" Crawan yawned, not even phased by the story. "That's why they need someone like you to watch over them" he commented with a sly smile.
"You're the eldest, why don't you?" She fired back.
"Oh, I can't handle that much trouble" He laughed before scuttering away as the younger flitz lunged at him.
-----
"A hunter?" Sin smirked, hips swaying with intent.
"Hey" Key warned with a nudge of her nose, "Crawan is worried, and that's saying something. I know what you're thinking but stop it, be safe for a change" she almost whined.
"If there's a hunter all the way out here we should teach them a lesson, so they don't come back!" The fox argued, as they did best.
"How about I teach you a lesson?" Key nipped at the young flitz side, just a pinch. "I can protect you from a bad idea, but not a bullet" she sighed heavily.
Sin shifted uncomfortably, avoiding the bears' gaze. "I" they stuttered, "I never asked for your protection" they finally spoke after moments of silence.
"You didn't have too" was all the bear responded with.
----
"Key!" The foxes scream shattered through the forest, a desperate plea causing everything in forest to stay alert.
"Sin? Sin? SINOPA!" The bear scrambled to her feet, dashing from the safety of the camp and into the wilderness. Her legs ached with the overuse of every muscle. The scent of iron pricked her nose and she hurriedly followed the bittersweet stench to a den.
"K'eyush?" a scared broken voice whispered, the fox slowly sliding out of the den with a limp. Black whispy blood trickled from their shoulder.
"What did you do?" She whispered back, already beginning to lick the wound the clean. "We have to get you back to camp, Crawan will know what to do" she mumbled to herself in panic.
"I just wanted to be the protector for once" The foxes voice was much softer now, not so fiery and angry.
Key didn't respond, but placed a gentle kiss between the Sin's ears.
----
"It seems I was right" Crawan nodded sagely.
"When do you think you're not right?" Sin snapped back with a mischievous grin.
"Hey, respect your elders" Key chimed in with another harsh glare.
"Yes ma'am" The fox snarked.
"Why do I put up with this?" The bear groaned.
"Because you two love each other, oddly enough" Crawan commented but quickly hushed with the looks he was given.
