we have wood stoves. we have a pot of water on top. we have a pitchure of water for those pots. Gary has is own water. two sources. why would he want to stick his head and drink out of a tall glass, when he splashes his shallow water. and of course has his own.

A lot of cats prefer running water or fresh water. If your cat's water just sits in the bowl all day, but you frequently use the water pitcher, then he probably thinks that your water is more fresh than his. Try refilling his bowl with fresh water at least 3 times a day, and make sure he sees you doing it. That might help. Otherwise, something like a fountain bowl might be the best option if you don't want him drinking your water or making a mess of his own.

nah. i would have paint water for my brushes and he would try to drink that.
or he would drink out of a cup. even if i gave him fresh water.
or the toilet.
or my tea, even if it has been sitting there for a few hours
or drink the water from a christmas tree
or when i come out of the shower
or drink what i rinced and spat out while brushing teeth.

or give him new water, and he still wants the tall picture

Don't let your cat go near toothpaste, it can be toxic for them.

i don't let him have it. i am just saying he wants that, so it's not an issue of "not fresh enough" the same as having to shove him/remove the cup when i rinse off a paintbrush from the arcylic. it could have many washings and be old and smell bad, but he still wants it. i don't let him have it. it is just baffling

My cat prefers to drink out of a cup on my bedside table. I refill it every day so its fresh. It's weird, but its better then him trying to drink toilet water.

My cat drinks from pretty much anywhere where he is able to. We have bowls and cups of water just about everywhere in the house, I have two marimo plants that he loves drinking from, he will always try to drink from my water pitcher, from the water we use to water our plants, and he will follow me into the bathroom to drink from the faucet as well. It's really cute, actually, cause he will touch the stream of water with his paw (both in the air and dip it into the wetness no the surface) and then lick it. And sometimes he will even lick window glass when there's condensation on it. Silly boy likes having his options. We don't mind and make sure the bowls and cups are fresh every day since he does primarily eat dry food only.

i need some help. my parents bought the wrong cat food and tiny refuses to eat it. i don't think she's eaten since yesterday morning. she'd much rather eat a leaf than the new food. which she did this morning. i've tried coaxing her into eating it by putting a few of her favorite treats in with the food. however she won't even nibble at it. she'll sniff then walk away. i don't know how to get her to eat the new food.
and my parents won't buy new food until this bag is all out. can anybody help me figure out how to make her eat?

Well, if they won't buy new food, you could try maybe mixing some plain chicken broth in with the food. That might make it taste a bit better to your cat. Mixing things like treats in doesn't always work, from my experience they'll just pick through the food to find the treats.
If the chicken broth idea doesn't work, you could try asking your parents if they might be willing to buy some canned food to mix in with the dry food. Try with small amounts at first to see if your cat will even like it, then if that works, mix some of the wet food with a full portion of dry food, and gradually add less and less wet food. It should, in theory, get your cat accustomed to the taste of the dry food.
If all else fails, unfortunately, you'll just have to keep offering up the food until she's hungry enough to eat. Cats won't starve themselves for long, eventually they'll eat, even if it's a food they don't normally like. Some cats are just fussy.

i'm getting a kitten. two cats in my friend's neighborhood had kittens and we found my new kitten in the tire of a truck, he's very vocal and his meows sound like a frog so i'm gonna call him frog. anyways, we've been leaving food out for him; i just need to make sure he's safe to go home with me and that he doesn't still need his mama, but anyways me and my friend are leaving out food and hopefully i'll be able to get him and get shots + neutering surgery for him tomorrow or maybe this weekend. i'll get pictures for you guys asap, he's small with green eyes that glow and has gorgeous calico fur, his dad's a ginger tabby and his mom is black, so it's a bit surprising but he's very handsome. hopefully, he and athena get along, athena's very open to other cats and since frog is so young he'll be alright. unfortunately, we aren't sure if there are other living kittens and hopefully if there is they're okay. can't wait to take him home,,,, my mom's skeptical but i know he'll grow on her.

pretending to eat it won't work right? that works for parrots. I am just throwing that one out there because Gary wants my oatmeal or cream of wheat, but if I give him a cooked chicken liver, he would rather bat it around.
