Pricking her ears at the sudden voice, the jet black mare turned around. "Standing. What does it look like?" she replied, keeping a perfectly smooth, pleasant demeanor even as she uttered this cocky remark.

"Because you're a mare in the middle of the desert alone," he said, not getting any closer so as not to intimidate her. "Stallions can be dangerous."

Deyanira shrugged. "Nice of you to be concerned, but I can manage perfectly fine on my own," she said nonchalantly. "I can outrun most things, and stallions tend to avoid me, anyways." She suspected the reason for the latter was because of her smart mouth, but she did not mention that.

"Then you haven't seen the winter stallions," he snorted. Then he sighed. "Sorry, I'm Knight, your Ex-Deputy, not a Scout. You are?"

"A fight. Over a mare." He sighed. "I had been spending time with her after rejection by the leader of the herd, so then we got in a fight for the mare, the mare chose me. Carlo got mad. Now I'm Scout." He sighed. "And all I was doing was making her feel better. Now's she's one of my closer mares." he said. "But at least she's happy."

Lilly swatted as a fly landed on her leg. Then ignored it and went to the creek. She lay down by the edge letting the water lap at her legs. She felt slighty uncomfortable lying down because of her largening stomach, but she had gotten used to it and it didn't bother her much anymore except for the occasional kick. She was bored and wanted company, she wondered were Douta was.
