I think when offering an egg as a gift to others, it should be allowed, but people simply asking for stuff, eg. "anyone have a [insert dragon name] egg/hatchling" should include an offer with their requests. It's then the person who has what they're looking for who can decide whether or not they want something in return.

I agree with some of the points above :) If someone feels courteous enough to give an egg for free then that is their choice, but people shouldn't feel obliged to give someone a dragon because they have asked for it and not offered anything in return. As long as someone says "I can breed something from my scroll" or something along those lines, then I believe that it is acceptable because each person gets something out of it. The majority of the time people will give dragons for free because we like to help each other, but some people may not like being pressured into giving a gift. It's similar to chicken smoothie; if someone trades you saying "please give me these pets for free" then you'd most likely decline because it's not fair on you.

I think asking for free eggs ( or hatchling because eggs aren’t the only thing entitled in a trade) should be okay, but I feel like the way you word it: say someone says “Can I get a free (whatever you are looking for)” makes it seems like you’re just begging for something. Of course there is nothing wrong since we are community that helps each other, but WHAT IF people just take this thread for something to ask. WHAT IF the same people just come on here and just keep on asking and asking and asking???? Not giving anything in return. I think a community is a place where people can ask for something and give something in return so we all help each other, but is not a place to just keep on taking. I don’t know, I just feel like if we change the rules this thread is just going to turn into a place where people just ask for free eggs and not a thread talking about dragcave as a whole. We do already have people putting up free stuff on here. But I do think, this rule is a bit unfair because newbies do want certain eggs but they don’t have much resource to offer. All in all, I think this rule can be removed but at the same time restrictions need to be put in place. Like “you can ask for free stuff, but do it once every day” or “You can not ask for specific traits of the egg, you get what you get” or “Newbies are the only ones who can ask for free eggs”

Or maybe you can just word it like “Looking for a (whatever you are looking for)
Then people can reply to it. Whether they offer you it for free or not.

i believe the intent of the mod's pm was to clarify that you're not allowed to ask for free things on cs (to my knowledge) in general, so I don't think any rules should change. Sometimes saying something like "anyone have ___?" can come off as asking for something for free, so as long as it is accompanied by something like "I can give __ in return" or "here's my scroll if you would want anything in return" it should be fine.

whether or not the person who has what you want decides to give the thing to you for free or not, is up to them. There's been plenty of times on here where I've asked for an egg and offered to breed anything from my scroll in return, and the person just gives me the egg for free, which I've done as well. There's nothing wrong with gifting eggs, you just can't ask for one without offering something to trade for it in return~

Ok so these are the results, a majority of the people want to keep the rule, so that's what we're going to do. <3

This doesn't mean you can't offer eggs for free and expect nothing in return, just that you shouldn't be asking for something without anything to offer.
