''I'm going to have the coolest mentor, just you wait and see.'' bragged Shrikekit, sage-green eyes shining coolly. ''Nobody else will do, except for the best.'' The stone-grey cat was only young, but already it was as clear as sand was sand that there was an ego on her shoulders. ''You two will be eating my dust!''
Lotuskit scoffed, waving a paw dismissively. ''I won't be having a mentor, thank you very much!'' The ginger tom sat, adamant as though his words were as final as the stars. ''I'm good enough the way I am, and if anyone says so otherwise...'' Lotuskit chuckled darkly. ''lets just say the scorpions are going to come into very close quarters.'' Somehow, Lotuskit said with such a terrifying conviction, that it would be hard to laugh it off.
Meanwhile, Larkkit sat between the pair of them, staring dumbly at the towering and fragmented statue of Thoth. Unbeknownst to her, Thoth the god of wisdom would have had no use for such an absent-minded young soul, and so Larkkit stared unto eyes that would have never even given her a second look, if a look at all. ''I just want a mentor.'' She replied assuredly, paws kneading into the sand. ''Y'know, become a warrior like mommy.'' Larkkit smiled at Shrikekit, tail twitching. ''I don't mind who teaches me!''
''Well, that certainly makes Cannastar's job easier.'' Chuckled Oryxthroat, nuzzling Larkkit. ''Come on, he's waiting!'' The setting sun cast a warm glow over the desert sands, turning Oryxthroat's dusty-grey pelt a pale pink and white. ''Aren't you excited?'' Oryxthroat inquired, nudging them towards the stony-face of a half-drowned Bastet. ''You're going to become warriors!'' Oryxthroat cooed, a throaty purr stumbling out from the back of her mouth; They were growing up! And they hadn't died, not like Stonekit and Pebblekit.
Cannastar crouched quietly on the goddess' stony brow. ''Here you are.'' The ginger tom yawned, rising to his paws. ''So you're the little rascals that Embergaze was pestering me over?'' Quirking a brow, Cannastar stared down at a puffed up Shrikekit. ''Be careful that your head doesn't cause you to topple backwards.'' He smiled teasingly, stretching each one of his legs in turn. ''Okay, GoldClan gather around!''
His voice echoed around the ruins, as one by one, the clan stirred. ''Today, these rascals are starting their training.'' Cannastar rumbled, ears twitching. ''And they need mentors!'' Glancing at Jackalflower, the ginger tom watched as the deputy hopped up to his side, beaming politely at him. ''...And it looks like Jackalflower has something to say, and I've made the executive decision to ignore her.''
It was his clan after-all and he was the leader, ghosts hadn't heckled her into being his deputy, had they?
''Hawkfur, you will mentor Larkpaw.'' Cannastar continued, ignoring the brown tabby's shout of glee. ''Viperpelt, Shrikpaw and Ratclaw, Lotuspaw.'' The tabby looked around, as though assessing the clan for any disagreement. ''I should hope that you three will take this seriously, and protect them with your lives...because if they die, Oryxthroat's going to have your head and lets just say...'' Cannastar drew in a deep and solemn breath. ''...I'm not getting in the way of her warpath.''
Meanwhile, draped over Anubis' muzzle, was a skinny loner. ''You think my brother is mature enough for an apprentice?'' They scoffed, looming over the gathered cats. ''You may wanna reconsider, m'dude, because Hawk has once managed to forget where his whiskers were.'' Of course, that was an exaggeration but really? Hawkfur wasn't a tom of intellect, nor maturity.
''Acacia!'' Hawkfur cried, breaking out into all smiles like water disrupted by ripples. ''That's not true, don't say things like that!'' He protested, stomping his paws. ''I've changed! Larkpaw is completely safe under my watch!'' Bowing down to touch noses to the skinny tabby, Hawkfur beamed lovingly at her. ''I promise, little one, you are completely safe and we are going to have so much fun!'' His voice pitched into a little high-pitched squeak, as his eyes flickered back up to Acacia. ''What are you doing up there?''
The loner's face suddenly fell dark, as she slowly crept back down to Anubis' feet. ''Completely safe? Can you really promise that?'' Acacia tilted her head thoughtfully, tail swaying menacingly. ''Funny, I don't think Papyrus would've agreed.'' Acacia rattled off a list of names, shaking her head slowly. ''Or Spike, or Dungbeetle, or Thunder.'' The brown and white tabby huffed, before turning to Cannastar and staring him dead in the eyes. ''My name is Acacia, and I must implore you to reconsider.''
Instead it was Viperpelt who replied. ''Hawkfur?'' The dark-striped tabby chuckled, shaking his head. ''Guys too soft to be a danger to anyone, he couldn't even dare hurt a mouse without apologizing to it.'' Viperpelt's yellow eyes glimmered, staring down the slender molly. ''Why should we listen to you? Oh, strange cat from the desert.''
''Technically, you are all strange cats from the desert.'' Ratclaw muttered under her breath as she stood up next to Viperpelt, tail twitching. ''But Viperpelt is right! Hawkfur's harmless, he could never hurt anyone.'' Ratclaw's whiskers twitched with amusement. ''You thought you could fool us! Well, think again because your poison isn't going to work here, ведьма (means witch in Russian)!'' Ratclaw then beckoned Lotuspaw, and stalked away.
Acacia was quiet, watching Hawkfur as he slowly followed the others. ''...'' She did not say anything, not even as Jackalflower and Embergaze began to approach with all their questions. ''Stay away from me, I will hunt and then answer your questions.'' She sighed, shooing them away with a swat of her paws. ''But for now, farewell.'' Dark yellow eyes twinkled like twin suns, and then she was gone.
