𝔖𝔬𝔫𝔬𝔪𝔞𝔫𝔠𝔢𝔯
A practitioner of magic via musical means;
one who delves into the arcane power locked within the simplest tunes.

After an incident regarding his voice and a talent show at his school,
Yamasuke found out that he has magic buried deep within him.
He became a sonomancer: one who practices magic that utilizes voice and music.

In a society where mages might seem extinct, the usage of magic is forbidden.
There are only a few true mages that have been discovered,
but who knows how many are out there. With a strong aura, they have a hard
time staying hidden in a society that cares little about them.
Some tend to hide underground, some choose to stay
in hidden locations and those who are skilled
enough tend to suppress their aura and choose to just hide in plain sight.

Despite being known for their hospitality, Cynaryn is a big city with ;
not much is known about the city's history except for a particular
civil war led by a power-hungry mage. After the mages lost the war, the president had
to make any usage of magic illegal, in fear of another conflict.
The city is divided into three districts: Solus, Lunarus & Tradis.
Solus and Lunarus occupy most of the city, while Tradis is only 1/4 of the whole city.

Solus & Lunarus
Solus and Lunarus are both
districts populated by those who can afford
at least one house. Solus is the district of wealth,
health and education. The kalons living here usually
work in offices or have well-paying jobs that involve
almost no physical work. It's most
well-known place is the casino The Azure Chariot.

On the other hand, Lunarus is the district of traders,
workers and factories. This district does most of the
physical work in the city. This district, despite it's factories,
is the calmest one of the three and
is the home of our young sonomancer.
It's most well-known place is
Skywalk Square, a square made with
almost mirror-like marble and a fountain in the middle.

Tradis
Home of the homeless, place of the poor,
Tradis is a worn-down place that
somehow survived many rebellions.
This district really isn't that much all by itself;
collapsed or about to collapse buildings, poor
lighting and stray dogs and cats roaming the streets.
This place also "houses" most of the mages of the city.
Those who got discovered had lost their jobs,
couldn't apply for another job and so they lost their
home as well, ending up in this forsaken district.

But something in this district does not look right nowadays;
the kalons have quieted down, most of them retreated and
there's a strange, almost calm tension surrounding it.
The mages are planning something.
And it's going to be something big.

𝓢𝓲𝔁𝓽𝓮𝓮𝓷: 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓣𝓸𝔀𝓮𝓻

Yamasuke had a good kithood; he was born into a loving family
with a sweet mother, an amazing father and the best sister in the world
on top of having great classmates and good friends.
He spent most of his time socializing and getting to know his teachers. He
didn't spend much time studying subjects he thought were unnecessary in
his vision of his future, like geography or biology.
I don't mean to say he was close to failing those classes,
but his grades in those classes didn't go beyond C-s.
Despite that, Yamasuke had straight A-s in music, art and grammar.

Then, a talent show happened.

Him and his family only refer to this as "the incident".
The teacher told his parents and him that what happened was solid proof
that Yamasuke is a mage. At this point, Yama completely zoned out and almost didn't
hear the teacher tell his parents and sister that he himself was a mage
and would like to teach Yama how to use his magic.
With his parents' consents and his favorite teacher on his side, Yamasuke started
his training to be able to control his magic and not accidentally hurt his family.
At least that was his goal at first.



𝓝𝓲𝓷𝓮𝓽𝓮𝓮𝓷: 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓢𝓾𝓷

Yamasuke went through quite a change in his worldview since his magic
had awoken and since then, even if it took quite
a lot of time, he learned to accept who he is.
He's still as positive as his father but nowadays, he feels like his
dad is the one always managing to get his hopes up when he feels like all is lost.
He's polite, but will raise his voice if he doesn't like something, and he
has a "You first!" attitude, kind of like he's lacking in taking initiative.
He's not the most honest kit, but he always tries to be as fair as possible.
Yama's really social, even though he doesn't have as many friends as he had
before, but now he's more open to getting to know new kalons than being paranoid
about them turning out to be mages. He still goes to the same school his mom and
dad work at, but it's not that pleasant of an experience as it once was due
to his classmates and the whole school now keeping their distance from him.

Outside school, Yamasuke is the apprentice of his art teacher and mage, Rob Bosse;
he helps out the small, secret group of mages Rob is a member of.
Though it took him a long time, but with Rob's help and with his family's support,
Yama managed to get used to his magic: he calls himself a sonomancer.
The only way he can do magic is if he sings or hums; a quite hard thing to resist
when you've been doing it non-stop in your whole life.
The two are carrying out tasks and completing missions for the group; some are
more dangerous than others, but somehow, the two can manage to complete them.
Sometimes though, they seem kinda shady to the kit...
In the end, though, he always reminds himself that this is all still new
to him and so are those other kalons; if Rob trusts them, then so will he.

Aside from his passion for music and singing, Yamasuke loves reading comics! He just can't get himself to sit down and read a book; the only one he read was the first and second book of A Series of Unfortunate Events: the first because their teacher asked for it, the second one because it has reptiles. When asked why, he often says, "Watching only letters seems kinda boring, but hey! Look at this panel! Look at it's colors and the action and-" and he'd usually trail off to admiring the art of comic books.
As you might have guessed, Yama also has a soft spot for reptiles, especially snakes. He finds them fascinating and knows quite a lot about them. When talking about reptiles, he often uses their latin names for accuracy and because he just likes how they sound.
He likes to introduce himself singing:
"Yamasuke Sasaki.
My name is Yamasuke Sasaki.
And there's a million things I haven't done.
But just you wait! Just you wait!"
like it's sang in Hamilton. It's just his favorite musical as well as The Greatest Showman.

Yama's hobbies (aside from collecting comic books) include playing long
games of Uno! and knows how to play rummy quite well.
Yama can also play the piano and the accordion, the only instruments he feels
very drawn to. When he plays one of them and sings, his magic even gets a bit of a boost!

Whenever he feels happy, he tends to move his tail like a
squirrel does. Because of this, he earned the nickname "Squirrel" in class.
It's especially fitting whenever he's hugging his tail; for one, he looks like a sleeping squirrel, and
two, it looks like he's guarding his only pine cone because of his shine!

Even though Yama loves his mom, as a kit he often tried to get
her to go to places she isn't fond of and these led to quite a number
of conflicts; Yamasuke just didn't understand why
she didn't want to go to such fun places and meet all those fun kalons.
Later though, after a talk with his dad, he finally managed to get an
idea of why she's like that, even if he didn't fully understand it. Since then,
he tries to be as mindful as possible when he
wants his mom to come somewhere with him.
Despite her shyness, Yami loves spending time with Yamadori and
often sneaks out during a lesson just to take part in one of her lessons.

When Yama's with his father, he feels like nothing can harm him.
Whenever the kit needs a paw in something, he knows who to go to!
He adores his father's helpfulness, but when he was a kit, he just didn't
understand how Daisuke could think of helping
EVERYONE, even those who aren't that good.
Yama knows the basic first aid stuff thanks to him and even though
he doesn't want to become a doctor or nurse, he finds it
useful to know what to do when someone's hurt.

Usually, Yamasuke isn't that much of a troublemaker, but when he's
with Masago, the two are like the lords of mischief! Masago's usually
the one to get all the ideas for these kinds of stuff, but Yama's not
that innocent either. For some reason, these two have never seen
the principal's office for their pranks and mischief, but Yama still
gets a minor shock whenever he's called to the office.
Yamasuke loves his sister a lot, even though she could get on his
nerves quite often. Most of the time, he wouldn't show it, especially
in public, but he really does care about her.

His art teacher, now magic teacher, Rob Bosse
always liked the kit for his enthusiasm! Yama wasn't, and still
isn't, the star student of the art class, but Rob knows he
doesn't want to be that much of an artist, at least not with drawing.
No doubt, he's Yama's favorite teacher beside his mom; the positiveness
of the kalon seems to be affecting the kit; Yama feels better and
better about being a mage every time they train or carry out a task.
The older one sure can show the kit all the wonderful sides of magic!

Yama doesn't know Henry Almanza that much,
but it appears as the librarian knows quite a lot about the kit. Henry is quite friendly with him
despite knowing he's a mage, but something about the librarian just feels... off to him.
He despite his weird demeanor, Henry helped him out not once, but he always disappears
before one could ask for an explanation and is always back in his library like nothing has ever happened.
This cheerful kalon is always happy to offer his services to him.

"Have you had any strange things happen prior to the events at the talent show?"
"Hmm... Now that I look back, I think I can safely say that yes, I did.
Back then I just couldn't find a good enough reason to why
stuff started randomly falling off my desk and shelves when
I finished humming or singing my favorite song. But now it totally makes sense!
Sometimes, when my sister woke me up in the middle of the night
that she can't sleep, I sang her our favorite lullaby. She slept in surprisingly fast,
almost half a minute into the song! We were both confused, but okay with it,
since mom had to almost finish it when she managed to fall asleep.

"How does your magic work?
Rob says it works somewhat like this:
Whenever I sing, both the emotion I feel and the tone of the song matter.
If I want to float, I just relax and sing in a calm tone. If I want to
ignite something, I just have to think of something that angers me. If I want
an earthquake, I have to sing in the deepest tone I can.
He also says singing is when a spell is cast at its full potential, and humming it just
lightens its power. Well, I'm glad he's right, or else, our whole house would be in ruins by now!
It might seem easy, but it's far from that! Sometimes, I still accidentally make
evereything in the room float or catch on fire fire while I'm humming... Man, I just
wish my favorite song didn't soak the thing I'm holding when I'm singing it...

"What do you usually do when you're feeling blue?"
"I usually just... cuddle up to my mom or dad... mom always sings me a
lullaby then and it just... it just calms me down,
you know? And dad's hugs are so warm and... I feel safe there.
But if she's not there at the moment, I uhh...
I just... sit down in a corner... and hug my tail... while humming a lullaby...
Basically, I hum myself to sleep..."

"That night after that talent show... It was horrible.
All I could do was cry and tell my family that I'm a monster. I was almost sure
I'd drive them crazy with my constant panicking. I just regret how I reacted then..."
