Has anyone had another animal besides a dog get sick or injured, and the dog(s) seem to recognise it?

The cat had to go the vet for a swollen cheek/an infection and she was just curled up in the corner all day.
Winston and Zappa usually annoy her in the morning being crazy and following her, but today they got up, sniffed her a bit and then completely left her alone.
Ruby went and flopped down next to her even, but they always look out for eachother. (Homies help Homies)

I wondered if animals know when another is unwell, or they noticed the change in her behaviour, or they could just smell the infection?

They most definitely know when animals are sick or old. When my old dog was feeling unwell, Sheaba was very aware of it and took care of her in a way. She was als depressed when she passed and even tried digging up her grave.

So I had massive feels tonight after a fantastic day. My friend and I took O and her dog Captain down to meet O’s dad’s owner and get a private dock lesson! I’ll link my sappy Instagram post for anyone that may want to read it and get my view on reputable breeders lol

The breeder sounds lovely and it's nice that Octavia got to reconnect with her fam – maybe she wanted to impress them XD
That was a really great way to put it though, it's nice to have someone that knows the dog who can talk to you and help you and stuff c:

She’s fantastic, my next will either be another from O’s breeder, her or their friend who I was originally on the list for lol! O loved getting to see her sister and play with her and she even got to play with the little 5.5 week old half sister too.

There’s really nothing better than having so many people in your corner. I appreciate my border collie family soooo much! My friend is getting a pup from the stud owner next year and I’m so excited for her to join too lol


As for festivals and things, yep! O has been to a giant festival, a pet expo, and of course all over the normal places. Saturday she goes to her second festival, I’ll try to get some video of her there if I remember! They also set off fireworks all around my house and she got walked, we played offleash disc, etc and she didn’t skip a beat. They shot some off like a mile from us at her agility class last night and she didn’t even blink.

Kestrel also rocks festivals and expos. We took her to a firework show last year and she just chilled in the car while they went off. (My niece and nephew are something she doesn’t like so she wanted to be away from them lol)

To keep Penny quiet on a walk you want to create scenarios where she's far enough away from another dog not to react and reward her for not whining, then slowly up the criteria (close the distance) as she succeeds and learns not to whine at other dogs.

You can also try some eye contact to get her to focus on you instead of the other dogs...

As for chewing, it's rawhide that can damage their intestines and can cause blockages. Hard plastic chewies can also pose a danger. Bully sticks, ears, tendons, and such are fully digestible. If you only give them Kongs in their kennels you shouldn't have a hard time finding them, and it can also increase their value and make the kennel a fun place to be they won't want to break out of. The best thing to stop them chewing when their alone is for your brother to stop leaving them alone.

I was referring to harder toys you said they didn't like that would be better, and less likely to end up in pieces on the floor.

This is so cool! I just checked it out on Blue’s Embark profile, and it turns out that she also has one copy of the duplication (which would also explain her blue eyes). Such an interesting discovery.

So my horse got a burst of energy today I suppose ( he's 27 ) And he jumped the fence. We went to go get him and we couldn't catch him. Deacon was in the car so let him out to see if he could help, And holy heck that labrador did me well, He got behind the horse and moved him towards me which was very very helpful! I didn't know Labradors could herd, And i didn't think it was in their genes to do so? He kinda just.. Knew? what to do! I think i'm going to shape this and use it as something to get him some more exersize.

other than that, Doggo has been very lazy, I think i'm going to bring him to the park and let him do the slide because going down the slide is his most favorite thing ever for some reason? I have such a weird dog and i love it lmaoo

Although some breeds may be designed to do certain jobs most can do jobs even if their breed is not bred for that (withing physical limitations of course). Herding is simply an extension of the behavior of chasing down prey. Still, knowing that it's technically possible and seeing it done are two different things. Never heard of a Labrador herding, let alone without being trained for it. Really awesome! Just be careful he doesn't get kicked by the horse. Besides herding you might want to consider Triball for him. It's designed to capitalize on herding instincts but is open to all dogs if you ever want to compete. And it would be great exercise and less dangerous.

I would never ever let Deacon around a horse i didn't know or trust my old man has been around several dogs jst not deacon, And deacon has been around several horses but just not this particular horse. I knew Cooper wasn't going to kick and deacon just barked and pushed him forward. I think they both enjoyed it. :)

He's not pure breed, We think labxpit but there could very possibly be a dog belonging to the herding group in his dna!

Emergency poops. They’re a thing. Lilly had one in the new house, though it was at least in the garage we could hose out and bleach the floor and not on a carpet.
