Nikkolah, often known as “Tricky Nikki,” arriv
ed at M:W in the summer of 1987. He was bor
n in a Florida backyard as the result of an acc
idental litter. At the age of six weeks, he and
his four brothers were transported to Colorad
o for the creation of a wildlife center near Du
rango. Two brothers stayed at the center, two
brothers were given to individual owners, and
Nikki came to live at M:W at the same time as
six other pups. Nikki grew up and lived with hi
s adopted litter mates, exploring the refuge fr

into the role of the beta male, and for 14 years of his life looked
up to his leader Lucus. His pack varied over time from four to el
even wolves. As he and his adopted siblings aged, some of the ri
vals were given new enclosures, leaving Nikki in with Lucus, Rav
en, Nyati, and Jordan. He earned his nickname “Tricky Nikki” wh
en he climbed over the fence separating the boys from the girls
during breeding season and became the father of one of the only
litters of pups to be born at the refuge. When they reached the
age of fourteen, he and his life-long partner Jordan were given t

heir own enclosure in which to live free of the pressure and competition for food that occurs wit
ha larger pack. Nikki and Jordan spent a happy year hobbling around their enclosure showing off
to Nyati and Lucus through the fence. However, in early May, we went to check on the aging, six
teen-year-old Jordan and found that Nikki was paralyzed in the hips. Within a few days he faded
and passed over on May 7th, 2003. His stories and antics are known to many and he was truly a t

into a small, blue dragon, no bigger than the size of
a large house cat. despite having the ability to fly, h
e spends most of his time as a dragon in the water. t
hough näcken are known for their violin playing, dre
kki's violin was left in iceland, and he has not played
since he was young, back in iceland on the hvita.....

drekki was born into a family of näcken who resided in the hvit
a river in iceland. he was raised there with four siblings until h
is teenage years. it was when he was a teenager that drekki be
gan to venture into the local village. he soon befriended a you
ng girl. when his families members learned of his friendship wi
th the girl, they banished him. unsure of what to do with himse
lf, drekki ventured back into the village to find the girl, but wh
en she discovered he was not human, she grew to fear him and
drekki had to leave for fear of being executed. he made his to
the ocean, and was determined to live out the rest of his life t
here. and he did, for many years, until a rogue current came a
nd swept him onto the beach of an island. the island was large,
and as he ventured ashore, he realized it was where he wanted
to live. so he did. he found a river deep in the forest and made
his home there. he became friends with the other spirits of the
forest, and has lived in peace there for the majority of his life.
