"General, you know what you have to do?"
"Yes, sir. I will bring them down from the inside. The clan won't know what hit them. And don't call me the general, I have stepped down from that position. Call me Eclipse."
---
Eclipse burst through the run down doors of the barn he called home, his eyes narrowed as he scanned for his target: a kit they had nabbed from the neighboring tribe. He put on a show, "fighting" off his tribemates as he made his way to her; the young and terrified kit watching as the brute single handedly ‘defeated’ each adversary until she was scooped up in his jaws. A hero in her eyes, the brute ran out of the barn and brought her to safety. Phase one was complete.
Eclipse dropped her to the ground, the terrified kit landing with a soft thump in between his paws.
"Where do you come from?" Eclipse asked curiously. As if he didn't know.
"A tribe, it's over that way!" The kit purred, stumbling over her own two paws in an effort to show him the way. Kits. They were always so naïve, so stupid. Eclipse could hardly believe he had ever been this dull. Still, he had a mission to do, and had to deal with this for some time. "Alright,” he sighed, mentally bracing himself for the trip. “Just tell me as we go," He murmured, picking her up by the scruff. "You're injured and weak."
"No I'm not! I'm Lightkit." She retorted. Eclipse rolled his eyes.
Lightkit. How typical of a tribe name. Eclipse thought the name situation was odd and primitive. Too much of a mouthful. Eclipse gave a small grunt of annoyance while the kit continued to speak the rest of the way there, his ears never getting a rest.
---
As he approached the quiet and well hidden camp, he was greeted by 4 members- two larger males and two females. "Crowcaw, Pantherfrost," The largest brute began, not needed to finish his sentence before Eclipse noticed he was surrounded. Eclipse dropped Lightkit in between his paws once more, glaring at the massive tom in annoyance. "Tsk Tsk, this is no way to treat an ally. I'm trying to help." He spat, his tail lashing behind him.
"It's true, Adderbite!" Lightkit protested. She gazed up at the large tom with total confidence. "He barged right in and helped me!" She mused. “He’s a hero!”
Adderbite glared at the stranger; something didn't seem right. "Put him in the den. Don't allow him to leave, and watch him carefully. He is not to go anywhere except the shadow den." He spat, snarling once more at Eclipse before leading the way back to camp. Eclipse hid a grin.
Everything was going perfectly.

He didn't account for the extreme boredom that would happen in between returning the kit, and acquiring useful information on the camp. They didn't allow him out of the den very often, so he was unable to get a good read on the clan, and even if he could, there was no clear exit as of yet, either, so he was stuck there.
He tried to pass the time by woo-ing the guards. To his surprise, both shot him down. What a pride killer. “Listen, i’m flattered but i’m not interested. I have my eye on someone, and you’re not that cute.” Crowcaw growled. Pantherfrost didn't even acknowledge Eclipse's efforts, completely ignoring any comments he made. How boring.
His only form of entertainment came from the kit he rescued, who made it her business to visit him every day for hours.
"Do you have a mate?" She would ask. "No, I don't want a mate." He would respond. This happened at least 3 times a week, the conversation always ending in "Oh."
You see, Eclipse is asexual, and has no desire to bother with such trivial things. His job, his rank, his power was all so much more important to him. He was the youngest general in his tribe, the greatest war leader that could have come from this generation. He hated this, he hated being treated like dirt, but it was all in his new job.
Appearing more feminine was unfortunate, his peers often poking fun at him when he was small. The looks on their faces when he was promoted from lieutenant to general within the span of a few moons was priceless. It came more in handy, though, when he stepped down to become a spy. He noticed that cats are weak to love, to a pretty face. He had a pretty face. He used it to his advantage to successfully draw in cats from the outside, both clan cats and non-affiliating cats alike, only to watch them fall to the control of the dark forest. Romance, he decided, was overrated, and if anyone could fall for something so basic as an appearance, then he would rather just not bother at all.
"Don't you want someone to care about? Someone to care about you, too?" She asked, nuzzling herself into his side. He narrowed his eyes, but didn't stop it. After all, he was not to hurt her.
"Love is overrated, Lightkit. It isn't real." He hissed.
"Sure it is!"
"What makes you so sure?"
"Because I love my clan, and I know they love me back. You can see it in sooooo many ways!" She purred. He furred a brow. He decided she didn't know what love even was.
"How so?" He asked, now intrigued.
"Briarleap lets me sleep with her and the other kits," Lightkit began. "I don't have parents, so Briarleap said she could take care of me! Thunderstar tells me stories, they're real fun. I love listening to stories, all sorts! Softsoul and Pantherfrost," she paused, looking over to the entrance where Pantherfrost sat, unmoving. "They tell me all about their jobs! Panthersoul is a sentry, she watches! I think she was the one to see you coming. We have them posted all around the mountain and woods. Softsoul is a messenger, so he sends messages to the other three clans. He's super fast!" She chattered. Maybe he didn't need to go around the clan for information, this little one seemed to know enough. He felt himself grin. "It's getting late, why don't you come back tomorrow, I'll tell you a story."
---
Lightkit came back every day. It came to the point where Eclipse began to look forward to her arrival, enjoying the company of the only cat that would pay him any attention. He did try to speak to Pantherfrost once more, complimenting her a few times in an effort to soften her up. He noticed her twitch, and at one point her ears flattened, which was more of a response than before.
He decided he was definitely getting somewhere with her, though, when she brought him a vole. How thoughtful.
"I was assigned to care for you," Pantherfrost mentioned. This was the first he had heard her voice, he wasn't disappointed by how soft and sweet it was. "Don't get any ideas."
"I would never dream of it." He mewed flatly. "Now, when will I be allowed to leave?"
"Once the war is over. We don't trust any outsiders right now."
"You don't trust me?"
"Never."

As a moon passed, and another, Eclipse decided it wasn't too bad here. He quite enjoyed the long conversations he had with Lightkit each day. Even Pantherfrost began to open up a little towards the stranger. Still, he wasn't allowed any outside access, and he longed to see the sun once again. He just had to be patient.
"Would you ever want children?" Lightkit purred, tilting her head in curiosity.
This question was new, and replaced the mate question she had been asking a moon prior. Now, a moon prior and he would have responded with a hard no. Not even the slightest bone in his body yearned to have such a needy beast crying out for him. It seems that his time hear has softened him, and he hated it. And yet he loved it.
He felt that his eyes were opened to a much nicer world, a world where spitting on others was unnecessary, where family was important, It even brought him to remember his own siblings, whom he had loved once, but the feeling long since faded.
"Hello?" Lightkit called, poking her paw out to pat his fur.
"Oh! Well," He started. "No, I can't have kits. You see, I am unable to have my own. You'll understand it when you're older." He murmured, knowing full well that he would be unable to have kits, even if he wanted to. He never viewed it as something negative until now.
"Oh, that's a shame. What about me?"
"What about you?"
"What if I could be your kit? You can be my hero dad!"
He stared at her in awe for a moment. The innocence of it all, he couldn't handle it. "I think you should go to sleep, it's getting late."
Lightpaw frowned, but didn't argue.
How was he going to do his job now?

"Tomorrow I'm going to be an apprentice!" She cheered, grinning madly with pride. "I get to train to be a warrior for a little bit, but then I have to choose what I want as my job! What should I be?"
"I think you should wait to see what you like more." Eclipse responded, half grinning. "Or see what you're good at. After all, if you can't swim, or you don't like swimming, then why would you become a fisher?"
"GOOD POINT!" Lightkit purred, nuzzling herself into his pelt once again. "I'll worry about it later. I'll let you know what I choose as soon as I choose it!"
Eclipse frowned. He would likely not be there for that. Gone. He still had a job to do, a leader to serve. Yet it felt so wrong now. Had he really changed this much? He didn't care, though.
"Eclipse?" Lightkit asked, pulling Eclipse out of his thoughts. "Do you think I'm bad?"
Eclipse stared at the kit, bewildered. "Why would I think such an awful thing?"
Lightkit stared at the ground, the usual brightness in her eyes now dim and solemn. "I heard Adderbite say that I came from them. That awful tribe that's trying to kill my friends and family." She sighed, her ears flattening. "He said that he wasn't sure why they kept throwing us out, but I stopped listening after that. I'm from there, does that make me bad?"
Eclipse stared at the kit, long and hard, trying to find the right words. "Where you come from doesn't matter, it's who you choose to be that does. I don't come from the best place, but I changed." He wanted to believe that. "I... became a guardian. I vowed to protect the innocent," he stopped. No, he promised. This was his vow. "I protect those that can't themselves. It doesn't matter where you come from. You can be whoever you want to be. You are good."
Lightkit grinned and pressed her head against Eclipse's. "I have to go sleep now, I have to get up tomorrow! Pantherfrost said she would allow you to leave if you're good. I want you at my ceremony! Promise you'll be there?"
"I wouldn't miss it for the world."
---
That night, Eclipse found himself unable to sleep. He had never seen her before, yet she was a relatively young kit. Lightkit spoke as if she knew of more from there, too. His home. Maybe he knew, maybe he just didn't want to believe that he had been apart of something so cruel. Throwing out "weak" kits, how could there be such a thing?
"I'm going to make sure no more innocent lives are lost. I am going to help them." He decided. But first, he had to get out of here.
---
"May all cats in the clan gather beneath the rock for a special ceremony?" Thunderstar called. "We are gathered hear today because two of our members have finally come of age. Brackenkit, please step forward."
Eclipse watched the ceremony, something completely foreign to him. It felt nice to finally get some sun on his pelt, even if the circumstances weren't the best. The light hurt his eyes, but he didn't mind. He was intrigued by the ritual, and by the feathers that each cat wore. Would Lightkit be getting one? Who knows, not him!
"Lightkit, please step forward!"
Eclipse grinned. He felt an odd sense of pride seeing her there. It was obvious she was beaming with pride, too. He grinned as she made eye contact with him, pleased to be acknowledged, especially during such an occasion. He pays no attention to the speech Thunderstar gives until he hears "From this day forth you will be named Lightpaw. Your mentor will be Brokenmoon. I know that her sharp mind and quick thinking will rub off on you."
Eclipse found himself cheering with the rest of the clan. He noticed Pantherfrost gaze at him for a moment before joining along. She was just as confused as he was.

The den was lonely without Lightpaw. She was nbust now with constant training that Brokenmoon would put her through. Still, Eclipse was glad that she was happy.
One day, Pantherfrost trotted in, a small hawk being dragged next to her. She dropped it beside him. "You need to eat." She murmured.
"I have questions." He blurted out. She didn't respond. "I'm serious this time," He growled. Pantherfrost sighed. "what is it?"
"I want to know more about you."
"Get over yourself."
"Wow, rude. I'm serious. I've been here for 2 moons, and you've told me nothing."
"You're a potential criminal."
"Correction," He paused, flattening his ears. "I am a criminal. A spy, sent from the opposing clan. My job was to get in, scan the camp, and find useful information. But that's not me anymore. That's not... You have to trust me."
"Why? Why not just tell Adderbite and have him kill you where you stand?" She sounded so unsure. She wasn't very intimidating, her lack of confidence was apparent. He found it cute.
"Because I can help you defeat them."
---
Every time Lightpaw was gone, Pantherfrost and Eclipse would discuss. Pantherfrost began to open up to the charming stranger, who soon became an acquaintance in her eyes. To Eclipse, she was a fascination. He enjoyed getting to know her.
This was a luxury he never had before. A friend, someone to confide in. He found it odd she didn't even flinch when he spoke of his past. Maybe she had caught onto his ruse early on, maybe that was why he was never allowed to leave. Clever cats, aren't they?
Life seemed to be going pretty well. Unfortunately, all good things must end.
---
"Thunderstar, Adderbite, come quick. It's the patrol, get the medicine cats immediately!" A voice screamed, breaking the silence that rested over the clan so peacefully.
Eclipse trotted to the edge of the den, knowing full well he would not be allowed to go any further. He gazed into the camp, for a moment everything was still as teams rushed out to see what was going on.
Pantherfrost skidded over to him, her eyes watering. She looked terrified. "Eclipse, it's lightpaw."
Eclipse tore past Pantherfrost, ignoring the other clan cats that tried to stop him too. He skidded to a halt, his heart sinking. He began to shake his head. Before him lay the almost lifeless body of Lightpaw. Covered in blood and scratches, wounds that cut deep into her flesh. He noticed that Brokenmoon, too, was equally as bad. The third member of the patrol was not yet to be found. Eclipse let out an agonizing screech. He dug his claws deep into the ground, feeling the rocks crumble beneath his paws. Nobody dares to stop him as he rushes up to the limp body and presses his head against hers. "You're going to be okay. I'm here, do you hear me? I'm mere." He whispered. "You're going to wake up, you're going to be fine." He promised.
He wasn't so sure.
"I'm going to be back, I'm going to make things right. This is going to be the last time I ever see this happen, this is the last time that they hurt you."
Without warning, Eclipse saw his chance. He ran straight out of camp, Pantherfrost and Softsoul attempting to stop him. Not wanting to harm them too bad, he slashed at softpaws eyes, temporarily blinding the young messenger, and knocking Pantherfrost to the side. "I'm sorry. I will be back, but I have to continue my mission."

"Oh, you're back. About time."
"I had a small problem, it was taken care of." Eclipse spat, taking on the mask of aggression, trying to fit back into the place he once considered his home. Now, everything here made him sick. He hated it here. He had to control his temper, though, as not to give away his plan.
"The clan is strong, they have many more warriors than I expected, and have already called the aid of three other clans." He lied. "We cannot defeat them. Their camp is secure, with only one way in and one way out. They are beginning to trust me, I can go back for more information. I do, however, need to prove myself."
"Oh? How so?"
"The kits that we have," He began. "Where are they? I figured hey, if we're going to get rid of the weak ones, we may as well plague the tribe with them. Once they see I am one of them, they will welcome ne with open arms. I'll be a hero. They'll do whatever I say, believe whatever I tell them to about us. I'll make sure they lower their guard down, and then we will strike."
The leader gave a cruel grin. "I see. I never thought you'd be the familial type, but no matter." He teased. "We just assessed 5 kits, only 2 of which made our standards. It's a shame. However, it's for the betterment of the tribe. They will make good warriors. I planned on just gleaming* them, however if you believe that they could benefit you, be my guest. Take them."
Eclipse bowed his head. "Thank you, sir. I will be back in two moons." He stated, making his way to the given area was. His anger was only fueled when he was three newborns sitting in the middle, huddling together for warmth. He cringed as they cried out for food. He would have to get them back to the clan soon.
Would they allow him back in?

It took some convincing, but I'll spare the details. Eclipse spoke to Thunderstar, who in turn consulted Adderbite about making him a warrior.
"Please," Eclipse begged. "If not for me, just for my kits."
"Your kits?" Adderbite hissed, narrowing his eyes. "It is you who does that to them, it is you that tears them from their mothers, and makes them cry for warmth. Briarleap, Mousefire, come care for them. They need it. Thunderstar," Adderbite stopped, looking at his leader and mate. "Will you be able to provide for them as well once the little ones come?"
Thunderstar nodded.
Adderbite let out a sigh of relief. "At least they'll survive." He turned back to Eclipse. "You will not be allowed out of this camp for two moons. You will be unable to hunt, and you will be the last to eat. Those kits are your responsibility-"
"and Lightpaw?"
Adderbite looked at him, a bewildered expression across his face. How dare he interrupt, for one, but this guy? What does he care about lightpaw for?"
"I love her like she is my own, I have grown to love this clan and all of those in it. Please, if not for me, allow me this. Allow me to prove myself in another way."
"That will not be necessary," Adderbite sighed. "Your ceremony is tomorrow. My rules still stand."
---
Eclipse stood on the same rock his apprentice friend stood on only a little while prior.
"May all cats in the clan join me beneath the rock." Thunderstar called out. "We have a new member joining our tribe. Eclipse- once a rogue of the group now turned away from his evils. He has proven himself worthy of being a warrior, I guess." The leader announced, murmuring the last part under her breath. It wasn't very reassuring that the leader herself was not interested in him; she didn't trust him in the slightest. Still, here he was, being inducted into the clan.
"You are called Eclipse, a name suiting for both your personality and pelt. However, from this day forth, you will be known as Spirit that seeks the solace of Eclipse: Eclipse-seeker.
You are here, seeking approval from a clan that doesn't trust you. You are here, seeking revenge on a clan that wronged you. You are here seeking to find yourself. I only hope that starclan will guide your pawsteps and guide you to what you seek. You will be a... valued member of our tribe."
Eclipse took the pause in her breath to speak. "I know you don't trust me, I wouldn't either. But, I have learned. I have felt things, experienced things. New things. I like them, and I like it here. I can only hope that one day you will accept me as one of you." He shouted.
Below him, the clan chanted his name. It was monotonous and dull, but it was to be expected. He would prove himself one day, however that day would not be today.

Eclipse-seeker, how typical of a tribe name. Long, such a mouth full. Primitive. He loved it. His kit loved it, too. Lightpaw, the one he considers a child. "I think i'm going to enjoy it here." He purred, curling his tail over his paws. The massive brute stood staring from the mountains, gazing out into the horizon.
Pantherfrost trotted out from the foliage. "Welcome to the clan, Eclipse-seeker." She purred. "You wanted to talk, is that right?"
Eclipse-seeker nodded. "I might not be able to have my own biological kits, but hey, that's okay. You don't want that either, right? Good." He chuckled awkwardly. He never wanted to admit it, but he couldn't help it. She helped him, and treated him well. She was sweet and caring, and put the needs of her clan before her own. He admired it. He wanted to be by her side. "Me and you, lets take in as many as we can rescue. With you by my side, I think I can take on the entire tribe on my own. I... Will you be my partner?"
Pantherfrost smiled, her face reddening. "I would love to be."
---
Never did he believe that he would find love, nor did he believe he would have a family. Despite his past, he managed to find a place that made him happy. He found a love; someone that he believes will love him forever as he loves her. He made a family; 3 loving kits and their watchful older sister. He vowed to protect them. He would make sure the other tribe fell.
He would win.
