Season: Fall
Weather: Fall has unmistakably arrived. It's harvest season now, and farmers should take good care of their crops. Patrols will be more dangerous and hunting or gathering missions will yield less food. However, children will look at the multicolored leaves with wonder and will be excited for the upcoming snows.

Fall
Fall is here! During fall, birthings will be difficult and the chances of mothers or children dying during birth will rise dramatically without the help of a skilled shaman. There is also a lessened chance of catching more prey or finding new people and skilled animals and the odds of sickness will rise.

The village was usually quiet, save for some occasional quarrelling. But today it was extremely noisy. Sally-Mae, little girl of just 6, was wide awake and that could only mean one thing. Mischief. Recently, Alina told her that she can start training soon and that she could choose what to do. Sally-Mae had no idea what to do so she set out on a quest to find what the jobs are. Luckily for her, everyone had heard of the news and they all wanted to impress her.

She first went to Emma and Benjamin. The two were the most peaceful out of the lot.
"...And ya that's pretty much it," Benjamin said when he finished explaining.
"When you say it out loud, it sounds boring but trust me it's not. While gathering food you also have time to look at your surroundings," Emma added.
"But I can look at the surroundings here! And that's boring!" Sally-Mae shouted.
"No, dude! It's much more than that. You get to see the natural world. It's much more different to home," he said. The little girl put her hands on her hips with a pout. "Is that so..."
"Well, we also do gardening! Here, let me show you," Emma said. She opened the gate to the garden and showed her the fence that keeps Muffin out. Then she went through the gardening process. She also picked from the watermelon plant.
"You can get real big melons like these!" she shouted, trying to hide her struggle with the weight.
"Wow! Can we eat that!?"
"We can eat the watermelons already in storage first."
"Let's have an early lunch then," Benjamin suggested.
"Yippe!" Sally-Mae squeaked. Benjamin got out a watermelon and cut a big piece for her. Together, they ate the melon while saving some for the others. After lunch, she left and continued her quest.

Next was Eli and Kaiden. Today they were discussing strategy plans and they let her listen in.
"With large animals, it's better to split it up on either side of it. Then we can trap it," Eli said.
"There is a large stretch of land here," Kaiden pointed to the map that was on the table. "What do we do here?"
"That's a good point... Hmm..."
"Why don't you just ask it to come!?" Sally-Mae squeaked. Eli let out a deep laugh.
"If only animals were like that."
"...Does she really have to be here?" Kaiden asked.
"She won't be here for long. She's just curious. But wouldn't a new hunter to join our ranks be good?" he giggled. He looked away embarrassed.
"It's a little dangerous to show you the real thing, so let me give you an example," he said. "You see that bowl there?" A round wooden bowl sat atop a low table. She nodded.
"Let's pretend that's the prey. Like in a real situation, we are kept hidden so it can't see us. Well, bowls can't see but you get my point."
"Then what happens?" she squeaked. Eli loaded a bow and in a blink of an air fired towards the bowl. It flew off the table. Ida showed up and angrily grabbed it and threw the bow away.
"That's what happens. Minus Ida obviously," he winked.
"Show me more!" she shouted, jumping in the air.
"If you insist."
Kaiden rolled his eyes.

Skipping alone the pavement, Sally-Mae was looking for Alex and Marvis. When they weren't doing anything, they were stationed near the castle. She happily approached them.
"Tell me what knights do!"
Marvis jumped to her feet and outstretched her arms, cape flowing in the wind. "We protect the Iron Rosette from intruders and all that's dangerous! If there's a battle, we'll be in the front lines!" she said with a big booming voice.
"At least that's the job description. We haven't done any of that and instead we just border the village all day everyday," Alex yawned, slumped over in his seat.
"Ehehe, that's true. But we'll be ready!"
"So you do nothing?" she asked.
"What, no!" she shouted.
"Alex, Marvis stand up straight," said a voice that could only belong to one person. Alina. Alex scrambled to his feet.
"Y-yes, Queen Alina?" he stammered.
"We have a new recruit to our ranks. He's not a knight but a scout. You may often border together," she said. "It's good to see you too, Sally-Mae."
"Hi!"
"Anyway, meet Nicholas," she said, gesturing towards the newcomer. A smirk crept on his lips.
"What a pathetic set of knights."
Alina laughed.
"I mean... You're not wrong," Alex whispered.
"How dare you! I'm the greatest witch this side of the river has to offer!" Marvis shouted.
"What river are you talking ab-" She quickly placed a hand over Alex's mouth.
"A witch you say? I'm pleased to make your acquaintance. I am actually a wizard," he said.
"A wizard... Then we have similar powers then."
"Yes, but I'm not quite the tank as you may be," he nodded.
"A-ahaha, yes! I'm a knight and you're just a scout!" she laughed.
"Well, Alina always says we aren't quite good at our job," Alex said with a shrug.
"Don't tell him that!"
Nicholas laughed. "Oh, you two crack me up. I can't wait for what else you have to offer."
Marvis did a low growl

Halfway through the conversation, Alina led Sally-Mae aside. "So, how was it?"
"I learnt lots!" she squeaked.
"That's great. Any ideas what to train for?"
"Hmm..." she thought aloud. "I want your job!" Alina was taken aback. Usually, she would get mad but as she was just a child she let it slip.
"That's simply not possible. But maybe if we have a festival or something you could be our pretend queen," she said.
"Yay!"
"Now, hurry along," she smiled and gently pushed the child away. She happily skipped away. Alina turned towards where Marvis and Nicholas argued. Alex had stood back and crouched low to the ground with his hands on his head.
"Stop this instant!" she roared. They all froze. "Good. You must all perform your tasks now. Alex, I would like you to join Eli and Kaiden as they hunt. Nicholas and Marvis, we will patrol together."
"Yes, my queen..." Alex groaned and started to gather his things.
"What!? I'm going with HIM!?" Marvis yelled.
"It's an order," Alina glared at her. She squeaked as Nicholas smirked in satisfaction. Marvis suspiciously looked at him before leaning towards her friend.
"I don't trust this guy..." she said.
"You'll get over it," Alex said. "Anyway, I should go now. See ya later."
"Ah, bye," she waved. He walked off and then she was left with Alina and Nicholas. She didn't like him very much and he had became a fast enemy of hers. She had her eye on him the whole patrol...

Kivee bounced Tigill on her lap. Large green eyes stared from a dark face and the child laughed to see his mother make silly faces at him. Tugall stood behind his wife and made shapes with her hair. He gently brushed some of it across his son's face and the child sneezed.

Kivee looked up and laughed softly. "Why are you teasing him like this?" she asked without heat.

Tugall smiled and kissed her forehead. "He doesn't seem to mind too much."

Kivee's smile slowly slipped away as she regarded Tigill, who still bounced. He grabbed at her hair and she carefully untangled his fingers, wincing slightly as she did. "I hate leaving him here, alone," she said. "I know," she said, raising a finger to prevent Tugall from arguing, "Waxinnan is very good with the weyrbrats and Eshni is a wonderful help, but I just wish that I could keep him with me forever."

Tugall sighed and put his arms around Kivee. "It's going to be okay," he murmured in her ear. "Seanni's going to be hiring more staff, including Foster staff."

"That's good, at least."

F'dust shook as he flattened his already-short hair and put his helmet on. Today, almost a turn-and-a-half since Impression, he would finally ride Kimorth! The middle-sized brown turned his large head to his rider, eyes whirling with the greens and blues of enjoyment.

Predath says that I should be careful and not over-fly, Kimorth said rebelliously. I don't understand why I have to be so careful. I want to fly with you!

"So do I," F'dust murmured, going over the straps once more before swinging himself into the saddle. He gave Kimorth a pat on the neck and the brown stood. "But you've never flown with someone on your back, and N'reg and Predath just want you to be careful so that you don't hurt your wing muscles."

Oh. I don't like getting hurt.

F'dust chuckled as he slid the goggles down. "I know. No need to have a repeat of that time."

What do you mean?

F'dust grimaced. "Forget about it. You're okay now."

Okay.

"Everyone ready?" bellowed N'reg from atop Predath. The great bronze turned his head to survey the weyrlings.

"Ready!" the weyrlings cried in unison. Their dragons bellowed in agreement.

"Checked your straps?"

"Checked!"

"Helmet?"

"Checked!"

"Dragons?"

"Checked!"

"Follow me, and don't let your dragons go too fast or too far!" N'reg murmured something to Predath and the bronze leaped into the air.

F'dust's eyes widened as his Kimorth used his powerful legs to jump and his stomach lurched as the wings flapped. His eyes widened with fear and excitement and he forced a scream down. But then, he was in the air and everything was alright. Wait. He was in the air! He was flying. He was almost a real dragonrider now! Just wait until they went between. A laugh escaped his throat and he heard a whoop from Soyah as she and Borinth went in a lazy circle around him.

"We're flying!" he called to her, voice filled with elation.

"I know!"

F'dust leaned into Kimorth's neck. "I'm so lucky to have you," he said.

I know, came Kimorth's smug reply back.

Eshni looked up at the dragon-filled sky. Seanni and N'reg were practicing with the weyrlings again, and she was stuck minding the younger weyrbrats. Now, little Ril was okay and Fira was helpful by playing with some of the smaller girls (she was really good with Riz, Baridna's daughter) but she still wanted to go be with the dragons or fish with her mom or help Master Wax tune his instruments. Winter
Winter is here! During winter, your villagers will catch even less prey and the odds of deaths during births will continue to rise. In addition, they are far more prone to catching sickness and can die from even a seemingly-mild cold if not taken care of properly.

Though dangerous, winter comes with its own set of amusements. The snows have begun to fall and mountainous villages will be covered in it. Children will be excited for snowball fights and winter holidays will begin.
