omg dogs eating cupcakes is precious.

I've never made birthday treats for my pets before but Winston's 4th birthday is coming up sometime in November (I suppose I'll have to decide on a day), and I love dogs' reactions so I'm going to have to bake him a cake ♥

      On a more serious note,
and I can't recall if I've asked about this before,
but what type of Kong would you recommend for a young energetic greyhound who doesn't get much stimulation?

I'm asking because I want to buy two for my family friend's greyhounds — Ruby's half-brothers.
They're hardly exercised and kept in pens most of the day because they're untrained and kill their other animals, and I can't report because 1) anxiety, and 2) they'd know it was me because I've tried to talk to them about it before. Plus I don't want them to hate me, I know they love them since they're the puppies of two of their older dogs who died but they just don't really care for them? The middle child of the dogs owners is my actual friend and she's the only one that walks them and she tries but she can't do much since she's just a kid and her mum says she's too busy when she tries to talk to her about them.
The pups are a bit stir crazy I think so I thought getting them some toys to keep them occupied instead of sleeping or barking all day was something I could do to help while I help my friend work up the courage to ask her dad to build them a fenced in area on their land where they can actually run around like greyhounds are supposed to do.
They're pretty wild so I need something they won't destroy instantly that'll keep them occupied throughout the day.
(Nothing too expensive, please, I need to buy two since they're housed separately)

No, you're not, dogs can be bored. Sometimes it's unavoidable when we're sick. Training games (try capturing a new behavior) and puzzle toys are a great way to entertain her. Make her work for her food, if you feed her kibble throw the kibble at piece at a time across the room so she has to get it to give her some exercise. Some people also throw the kibble in the yard and use the grass as a snuffle mat.

Do you have, or can you hire, someone to help you excercise he until you get better.

I think your heart is in the right place but unfortunately actual hard excersize is what they ultimately need. Howweevveerr I will recommend they only toys I trust for unsupervised play.

Kongs, the original no nonesense standard red or black rubber toys, none of the squeaky toys or soft toys. XL or xxl size. These can be VERY expensive though.

JW Holey Rollers in the extreme black style, way more affordable.

Jolly Balls are also wonderful and built tough. Also affordable especailly if you check feed stores as they are often sold as horse/pig toys.

Goughnuts are nearly indestructible and come with lifetime replacements which I really like
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

Thank you, I'll take a gander at those listed c:
I'll have to drill it into my friend's brain to take them off them at night and give them back in the morning, otherwise, ya know. I don't want them to choke.

Whenever I'm up there I try to exercise them as much as I can and hang around with them, but they're a handful. Like even the least they could do is walk them down to a properly fenced in area like a tennis court or something and chuck a ball for them. The only exercise I've ever seen them get is lead walks down the track, and even then all I can suggest is harnesses and long leads for them to run on.
Hopefully they'll get a run built for them otherwise they're just going to end up reported by someone else with more courage than me X'D crikey

do they maybe own a treadmill? this helps to calm them down bevor you train or walk them

also when you have calm horse near you where you can go on trail rides, then take the dog out to go riding, this is lovely for dogs like Greys
when you got a race track for dogs, they should go once a week with them to have fun there...most are open when you pay some thing nearly all year...bike joring is also not bad

      @Luzien
As far as I know, they don't own a treadmill nor live near a track. It's kind of out in the middle of nowhere, the only things around is a large village and pig farms.
I can suggest biking though, thank you c:

They own a few horses, but since the boys have never been trained/socialised with other animals, it's likely they'd just worry the horse.
It's sad, they're in the cages because they don't get on with the other animals because they were never –and likely will never be– taught how to behave around them.

hi! i’ve posted this before but i’m going to be the mom of an adorable pointer puppy very soon! and i’d appreciate some advice n_n

yesterday our vet warned us that where i live is a hotspot for parvo and he doesn’t recommend taking our puppy out and around until 4 months of age. that means he could miss his opportunity to socialize if we keep him at home. i’m pretty worried... we’re going to ask the breeder for some recommendations but i’d like to know if anyone here has ideas how to approach this issue as well. thanks! (:

great that you get a puppy :D good luck hope you tell about him! ^^
best is to ask 1-2 other vet in your area, they may know bether why, or if this vet is just very careful?! ....did the vet you talked with not tell you why?

Is the mother and father taken care of with all pavo shots and all other vacination and deworing....? then he has some protection,...
and how bad is the stray dog problem in your area, maybe it is because of this...
but i think ost go out first time with there puppy at 8-12 weeks...

oh the part about the cages i must have over read...they must out asap this is bad...is there a way they can be place with someone else from there Family- friends or even a foster home with Greys-- when they cant and want really take care of dogs...and even more so sighthounds? they did atleast 1h of running and playing to be calm and gentle in the house and then they more or less sleep or stay with there owner while calm...why do they cage them?
or bether hy do they not find a nice new home for them?

one can train them when on leash and one leads the horse next to them, and when all works nice only one Person has the horse and the dogs till first time riding where the second person is needed....maybe they ot a calm gentle horse and rider who like to ry and train them? and when dogs are tirred and way home is long one can put them on a bag of the horse^^

we did have some sighthounds in our area, one was at the bike each day even in cold season...not sure how they did it with all the snow.., a old fem had some who i drive her group of small sighthounds out to a track where they could run when no race or training, 2 irish wolf did go out to the horse and where taken out to rides.....but all did got lots of playig and running each day for atleast one full h that was enough for some but i mean full out running and playing then they are calm entle house Dogs..and give them once a week atleast a longe full out strech of canter on grass with a nice warm up and cool down trot and they where happy^^ ...but i know when the guy who did help the old women did go away for new work the dogs did go crazy from to much energy and the male where put down as aggressive and did bite even the women.

I'm not sure how big pointers are... but before my yorkie had all his shots we just carried him everywhere in a mesh carrier. They don't have to walk around to socialize they just need to be exposed to different environments. I'm sure there are similar things for bigger breed puppies. For actual socializing you could bring them for play dates with dogs who you know have been vaccinated. I don't know where you live but petco has a puppy play time where puppies have to be up to date to attend (its free but only available on weekends). That or join some dog club... I didn't so I can't give you advice on clubs. (I really don't think we have one in our area anyway.

Probably way to small for your pointer puppy but this is wicks old carrier. He still fits in it but now we just use it for carrying his stuff.. kind of like a diaper bag. XD

Wick turned out pretty well rounded (he's almost a year old). He only seems a bit uneasy around farm animals. We live in the city so he didn't get exposed to them as much as I would have liked. He gets to see some when I visit my grandparents so hopefully he will be more confident around them in the future.
