indent. just like bentley would've been able to sense his boy calming down, the male could tell that his kind words had taken some weight off of the husky's shoulders. her posture changed from that of an overprotective mother to that of a normal stature, perhaps that of a possible friend. he felt no particular pride in how he managed to soothe the female's emotions but rather he felt simply happy and content with the fact that she was able to feel comfort. the brute gazed around the small clearing that had become the pack's first resting point on their journey. the weight of the world seemed to press down on each canine's shoulders as they all broke up into small groups to discuss their adventure, their past lives, and simply socialize so that they could begin to know one another. at the same point in time, however, the brute was relieved to see the pack weaving amongst each other and engaging in conversation. bentley knew just how important it would be for the dogs to get comfortable with one another if they were ever going to succeed. the thought made his tail sway back and forth for a brief moment, he was glad that he had found these dogs to travel back home with. no matter how horrible the situation was, ben was determined to try to find the positives in every situation that he came across.

turning to the female that still stood beside him, he listened carefully to her words, something that he had also been taught in his years as a service dog. "oh no! I truly think that once we all get to know each other, we will all be excited to welcome the little ones into this world. however that may occur. only a true mean dog could watch a pup playing with his or her littermates and not grin and wag their tail at least slightly." he assured her wholeheartedly. what he said he believed was completely true. he had never seen a pup that he didn't immediately grin at. the little bundles, whether they be goldens, chihuahuas, or great dane pups, they always were bouncing around and exploring the world that they discovered when they first opened their small eyes. "yes, the name is bentley. you may call me ben, if you would like." he offered kindly, knowing that usually only his boy would summon him with the nickname. however, bentley felt that joey was a trustworthy individual and he, too, wanted her to feel the same way about himself. the retriever stretched his forelimbs and then continued with the interaction. "so, miss joey, what was your life like before being dumped off in this forest? i'm sure it wasn't too similar to my own and of course, we all have a lot to learn about one another." his brown eyes sparked with genuine interest as he focused solely on the mostly black face with bits of tan colored fur mixed in. it was an unusual color for any husky breed that he had ever had the pleasure of meeting before and he wondered if the female was unique in her coat color as he awaited her response to his inquiry.

    Oliver | Male | 4 Years | Open

Oliver arrived at pack camp, the colorful pheasant dangling from his jaws.
The spaniel felt drool dripping from his jowls, the scent lingering in his nose.
He shook his head, trying to calm his hunger as he strutted forward, holding his head up high.
He set the bird down and digging a hole to bury it, some dog no doubt needs the meal more than him.
He gave his pelt a shake to release the loose dirt that clung to his pelt, and padded off, sighing slightly.
He missed his home very much, he hoped his master was alright.
His scent had changed, and he didn't take Oliver to the park anymore, another human had to do it for him.
They weren't nearly as fun, though.
No, no one could ever replace his master, even if them tried.
Oliver avoided the thought, although he felt he knew what had become of his master.
He'll come back for me. he huffed to himself, Soon I'll be in my warm house again.

Oliver settled down under the shade of a great, old oak tree, giving his paws a lick.
He wasn't used to working so hard, let alone being with so many other dogs.
It was tiresome, and he had yet to converse greatly with any of them.
Still, for some odd reason, he felt the need to protect them, just like he did for his master.
He didn't like to admit it though, he still felt awkward and misplaced in this pack, almost like he doesn't belong.
But he would surely starve if he were out here alone, so he'd have to put up with it.
He let out another sigh, his brow frowning.
He rested his head onto of his paws, and shut his eyes, letting the wind hush him to sleep with it's soft, sweet sounds.

It was nice what Bentley was trying to do, and she truly did appreciate his implied positivity as he reassured her on the matter of her pups. But in truth, it was foolish to believe everyone would welcome their arrival with open paws. A litter wasn’t something everyone would want at this point. Pups were demanding, helpless and truly dependent. Joey wasn’t even certain if the pack could work to survival. But caring for pups would be a new matter altogether. β€œWe’ll see about that.” She muttered sombrely, glancing towards the alphas who whispered harshly nearby. Their subtle gazes and hushed voices could only lead Joey to believe they spoke of her. Which was no surprise. She was probably already seen as an issue among the group. There was doubt in her mind she probably wouldn’t be able to keep up. Though she hoped with all her might she wouldn’t be left behind, she’d hate to slow their efforts.
Doubt never failed to settle on her mind, but Bentley’s efforts to cheer her up had certainly not failed. For now, barley managing to put aside her worries, she turned to him with a gleam of contentment in her eyes. Though his question caught her off guard, she wasn’t completely surprised. This was their chance to learn more of one another. And the best way to get to know a character was to know their past. Even though, Joey carefully considered how she’d go about this. She wouldn’t- couldn’t get much into it. Remembering...him once more would only lead to grief. And at this point, she had to remain strong. Joey wouldn’t let these dogs see her cry. Not yet, anyway. She was tougher than that. β€œI..I was a pet. Well, my true purpose was to become a sled dog. That’s what I was bred for. But my heart wasn’t in it. Neither was my strength.” She laughed dryly, gesturing to her height. Though in fact a husky, Joey’s size was considerably smaller than average. One of few reasons as to why she actually became a pet dog. β€œI loved my family. But my plan was to leave and become a stray with my- um, this dog I once knew. But it never worked out. β€˜Few months later I find myself here.” She cleared her throat as her voice came close to cracking. With a deep breath, she tilted her head back to Bentley, coming back with a stronger tone. β€œEnough about me. What’s your story? Gotta be more interesting than mine, right?” She played off her sadness with interest that now found it’s way into her mind.

flora

female - subordinate - australian cattle dog - crush: tbd - tags: calla, dante

the stocky canine nodded as the doberman spoke, acknowledging her words. "there's nothing i really need. i just wanted to find someone to speak to. to be allies during the trip." flora shrugged, eyeing up the second dog as she spoke to calla. "if you're willing." she finished, leaving the decision open to the doberman. flora thought she could ask the alsatian next, he seemed friendly enough and not snobby like some house pets.

even though flora was a pet and not a stray, she was by no means spoiled or treated like a normal pet. flora knew that calla was a stray and most strays tended to be hostile towards pets because of that reason, but she hoped calla would not think that way of her. yes, her owners loved her, but she worked all day every day and slept outside. she got fed before she went to the cattle or sheep pastures but she found things to eat during her time in the fields. she could tell the alsatian was a pet just by his neat coat. but, she couldn't come to conclusions about how he acted; everyone here had a story and she was not one to judge. they were here now and there was nothing they could do about it.

briggs

male - omega - brittany - crush: nimue - tags: open for interaction!

briggs hadn't really paid attention during the alpha's speech. okay, he hadn't at all. the brittany was too busy zoning out, looking and listening and smelling everything. the woods were so different than what he was used to: the city. when he was a few months younger, his hunting owners took him to fields and marshes but those were boring. you could only smell duck. but here... you could smell every bird, squirrel, flower... briggs' nose twitched vigorously, as if it had a mind of its own.

suddenly he stood up, feeling the need to go find something to chase or catch. the chestnut and white dog padded off into the woods, nose up in the air. what should he catch? he was only good at hunting ducks, so maybe he should find something similar. a pheasant maybe? "yeah, a pheasant." he decided, picking up his pace to a light trot, careful to avoid anything that could alert a critter to his position. as loud and obnoxious the pup was, he was rather good at being quiet when it came to hunting.

briggs slowed to a stop when he heard the recognizable calls of pheasants, his leg rising into the signature position. slowly, he took little steps forward, his eyes locked on to the prize. when he felt close enough, briggs leaped out of the brush, pouncing on the bird. it squawked noisily, causing a huge racket before briggs was able to finish it off. his tail wagging, the brute picked up the bird, happily trotting back to camp with his trophy.

upon arriving, he looked around at some of the other dogs, wondering if any of them wanted to eat something. briggs sat in the clearing, placing the bird at his feet. his eyes scanned the camp, but most of the dogs were already talking, or sleeping.

It seemed Dante had played his card right just this once, for his calm and apologetic response truly had earned him a name. Maybe this female wasn’t so bad after all. Besides, he’d be a fool to expect everyone here to be like the dogs back home. This group were lost, scared for their lives. It wouldn’t exactly be a walk in the park. And for pet dogs, like Dante, and lone strays, adapting to pack life would be difficult. Dante however, was willing to listen to the dogs who’d stepped up as alphas. After all, it was in their nature from their ancestors to follow where led. How hard could it be to listen to a few orders? Not much different to being back home, following the commands of his master. But he wasn’t in denial. It would be dangerous. But Dante would give it all he had to make it home in one piece.

Dante sniggered at Calla’s response. β€œNot entirely self absorbed. Maybe...sometimes though.” His mouth opened in preparation to respond with his own name, but a set of steps behind him indicated someone was joining their conversation. It was only natural that Dante greeted them with a gleaming smile and a wagging tail. Friendliness was all he knew when it came to new faces. A trait that carried both its strengths and flaws. But until his behaviour adjusted, he’d just have to make do.

He slowly stepped back as the cattle dog directed her question at Calla. Hmm, a dog looking for allies. That said a lot about her character. She was willing to put in the effort. That was a good sign indeed. Though he couldn’t quite place wether or not she was a pet. Her direct attitude and productivity screamed β€˜stray’. But her maintained weight and body condition suggested there had been some extend of human care in her life. Maybe she was one of those...farm dogs. Yes, that was probably it.

His gaze switched over his shoulder, as Dante’s sightline focused upon a rather forlone looking collie. Sympathy glazed his eyes as he quietly watched her, seeming so afraid and lonely as she stood distantly from the others. Dante turned to the pair on front of him, raising his his apologetically. β€œExcuse me for a moment. I’ll catch up with you both very soon.” He offered both a kind smile, hoping they’d not find him rude as he took his leave. His focus was on this female. And how he longed to comfort her out of this sadness. Kindness was a trait Dante felt he’d always possess. No matter the situation.

Pausing just steps from her, he called out to try to pull her from her daze. β€œHello? You need a friend?” He flashed a grin as he walked closer, keeping a short distance as not to frighten her. Should he been back home, he’d greet a sad dog with much affection. But Dante was struggling to not make the wrong impression. So for now, he’d have to back off from physical contact unless he saw it fit for a situation. Which could be a long time depending on the dog in question.

Cadi wasn’t certain if the nearby hadn’t heard her speak, or was just plain ignoring her. His attitude however, displayed by the way he faced the tree, utterly disregarding the group gave Cadi the impression he did not want to know. That was fine with her. At least she’d not wasted too much time trying to work out an alliance. Stubborn dogs weren’t worth it. She would know, as stubborn as she was herself. She was just one of few who saw forming relationships as important as escaping this dangerous land. She wanted dogs here to have her back. Unlikely as it was that she’d trust them one hundred percent, Cadi was willing to go through this β€˜pack life’ and β€˜friendship’ crap if it meant surviving. She’d put up with anything as long as her life was protected. And as any other β€˜loyal’ pack member, she’d do the same. Or at least she’d try.
She turned away from the male, and stalked instead off through the shrubbery and foliage that gathered and thrived along the boarders of their resting place. Though her confidence to get to know anyone had been dragged by her previous efforts, Cadi would give it one more shot. Perhaps it would lead to something better. From her point, Cadi overlooked the camp, taking note of a figure entering the clearing, a pheasant hanging in his jowls. By his appearance, she could tell he was a young dog. But an experienced hunter, she’d give him that.
β€œHey.” She called out as she made her way towards him. β€œYou catch that y’rself?” She casually threw out the question, eyeing the prize that lay between his paws. One may assume Cadi’s smooth tone and confidence were to be used to steal the bird he’d returned. But her intentions were actually quite different. Cadi was here to make friends. And while her slightly intimidating tone were possibly offputing, her neglected body didn’t hardly seem like a challenge.

❝ ATHENA !! ❞

❝ female - alpha - husky - tags; apollo - crush; tbd ❞

she let out a roughly edged sigh. the siberian shook her head solemnly. her orbs that were an auburn brown suddenly found themselves staring at the bent verde grass that her paws rested by. she sighed. her coal colored nose dipping down near her paws. as her neck slung down. giving herself the here by 'slouched' appearance. yet at his spoken words his head lifted ever so slightly. and hear head tilted ever so slightly. her flamboyant ears pressed against her bristly furred head. "i know that much, apollo." she spoke softly. her vocals still hushed. her maw opened again, "but, i do like to think that the rank chose me, hm?" she questioned the brute. her eyes glazed with raw curiosity. she let out a fast cold breath of air. her nostrils flaring upwards just a bit. "but then again, does that give us much authority? hm, if you think that? i suppose it's better to think you've fought for the rank." her voice now took on a sleek confused tone. she didn't know what to think, really. maybe the fact she deserved this rank perhaps?

she mustered a small smile on her maw. maybe it just didn't matter. she did have the rank. though did she have the confidence? sure, she knew the mountains. but she didn't know the forest much. she was used to the slick feel of snow under her paws. and the fur bristling cold gust of winds. yet it was nice to be in charge again. it was nice to be around other dogs to. especially if they weren't trying to rip your throat open too. it was also quite okay to have someone to chat too. and to know that someone was listening and there for you, while that was a plus. so maybe joey just wanted the hard truth? she knew life wasn't going to be easy. so perhaps they should be fair and express their problems to her. it would be right. so finally she gave him a slight nod. "i suppose. we can't glaze up our troubles. we just need to serve the truth to her rough and raw." she barked. her warm auburn gaze flicking away from him. "perhaps, a miracle will happen." she added with a warm chuckle.

❝ UNO !! ❞

❝ female - guard - mtn dog - tags; jax - crush; tbd ❞

she listened to him, her ears flopped up slightly. as the bernese tilted her head. his words were soothing. yet he didn't speak so confidently. which caused her pelt to prickle in concern. did he really mean what he was saying? or was pity just causing his words. yet as he examined his soft eyes and the gentle wag of his tail she thought differently. he seemed too concerned to be faking it. it was strange for her. to be around other canids. it had been awhile. she got up and moved closer to jax a warm expression found in her eyes.

she nuzzled the catahoula canine happily. her tail wagging gently. "jax it's great to know you're here for me. you're like a brother to me." she woofed joyfully. the young canine looked up at him with doubt in her eyes. she wasn't that big of an oaf. her head fell to the left. and her ears fluttered over her orbs for a few seconds. as concern flitted into them. her lips pursed together. "do you.. honestly think so?" she inquired. a frown flitting across her lips. nimue seemed a bit mature perhaps? maybe she wouldn't like her. because past all her doubts and anxieties was a little child. who was still actually growing up.

❝ AMAR !! ❞

❝ male - omega -border collie - tags; etros, aquaris, & other doods - crush; tbd ❞

he was about to walk away and try to find someone to talk to, yet he heard etros's voice slink into his ears. causing him to stop in his tracks. slowly he turned his head back towards the doberman. it inclined to the left in pure curiosity. his maw fell open into a small "o" shape. his tongue fell out of his jaws and in between his ivory teeth. "are you sure..." he woofed quietly. and the collie slowly walked up to the small group. his heart drumming against his ribs loudly. he was sure all the other canids could hear it. his ears flattened against his cranium. and his whole look screamed timid. he wasn't sure what to think at all. he suddenly felt small.

he let out a nervous chuckle. which was quite forced. as he peered up at the other canines. he quickly shook around his long pelt. flinging small speckles of dirt around. the border collie cleared his throat. "uhm hi." he woofed quietly. his chocolate warm gaze falling down onto his white speckled paws. which seemed to let off a soft hue. or maybe that was his vision blurring? the brute quickly blinked rapidly a few times. trying to clear his vision. before lifting his head back up again to face the other canines.

Oliver | Male | 4 Years | Athena, Boomerang, Juliette

Oliver's floppy ears perked up at the sound of a conversation nearby. He recognized their confident voices immediately.
    Athena and Apollo.
The two had all the power in this "pack". They made every decision, and were the driving force to bringing them all home.
Without this group, all of the dogs here would have a slim change of surviving.
But why should he listen to them? Who made them the leader?
He frowned slightly at their confident postures, their tails held high.
He felt his hackles rise up, obviously conflicted.
He, again, had no choice in the matter, though. He's no good in weather like this, in a place like this.
No, as much as he didn't like to admit it, he relies on these dogs to save them.
He just wants to go home. Once they return, he'll never have to see this group of dogs again. That was just fine for him.
He didn't even know half of these dogs names. Let alone their ranks, or what ever they're called.
He'd only joined a week ago, after all. He's not attached to any of them.
He shot Athena a glance, his honeyed eyes meeting hers, an obvious spark of annoyance in his eyes.
He got to his paws, stretching out his back and letting out a yawn.
He couldn’t get himself to nap, the tension of all these unfamiliar dogs around him put him off.
He needed fresh air, maybe he’ll go hunting again and mark the territory, that’ll do him good.
He padded towards the end of the clearing, entering the forest swiftly.
He felt relief wash over him, the made up tension disappearing as the forest scents greeted him.
He bounded towards his favorite hunting spot, the pheasant nesting grounds outside the lush forest and towards the meadow.
But just as he was about to leave the forest, a new, unfamiliar scent hit his nose, two of them infact.
Dogs no doubt, but none of the carried the pack scent in their pelts.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel lowered his nose to the ground, they’ve both been here at different times.
Oliver decided to follow the freshest trail.

His paws felt heavy. Heavier than usual. Perhaps it was because he had been walking for ages, perhaps it was the weight of stress and homesickness pushing down on him. The former guard dog was lost. Miles away from anything even remotely familiar to him. He'd already tried tracking Jo's signature oil and rust scent, but it was no use. The air only held the smell of earth, plant life, and traces of other animals. But he wasn't interested in any of that. He had a job, and he was absent. He... He had a best friend who was certainly worried sick. That was something he definitely didn't want to visualize at the moment.

Boomerang paused for a moment, dipping his head and wincing as a sudden searing pain traveled throughout his skull like a spreading fire. He tended to get headaches when he was overwhelmed, which wasn't that often. But when they did happen they were a pain in the tail; sometimes they didn't subside for hours at a time. One thing that seemed to help was cold, fresh water. What was he to do here? Drink from a dirty lake or stream possibly riddled with parasites? He'd never forget the time he was eagerly lapping up water, not a care in the world, only to discover that mosquito larvae were squirming about in his drink.
The St Bernard shuddered, his tail flicking in disgust at the memory. Yeah. No stream water for him.
Toughing it out would be the best option here. His top priority was owner, his home, and his bed. What he wouldn't give to be at home, curled up at the foot of Jo's bed. His old bones ached and creaked as he moved, as if complaining about the journey. And he didn't blame them. But still, he pressed on.

Hours later, Boomerang was running on empty. His lungs burned and his chest heaved, and he could have sworn his paws were bleeding. All this time walking and he hadn't caught even a subtle whiff of what he was looking for. What if he never found home? Was he doomed to wander around and around this damn forest until he perished? He'd taken his home life for granted. Suddenly, he had a much deeper respect β€” and pity β€” for stray dogs.

His legs buckled and collapsed mid-thought, signalling that it was time to give it a rest. Finally he accepted the reality that he wasn't going home quite yet. Joseph and his scrap yard would have to wait, because right now it felt as if he couldn't breathe.
You're fine, Ol' Boomer. He thought to himself, glaring as he scanned his surroundings. The only thing that remotely resembled shelter was a nearby log that of course, he was too large to fit in. He gave a disappointed snort. It looked like he'd be spending the night right where he sat.

Oliver’s fur started standing on end as the scent got stronger.
It was an odd scent, nothing like his home, which smelled of musky cologne and his dried kibble.
No, this smelt more like the city, it’s many smells gave the spaniel headaches each time he went.
The worst was the dark clouds and black, sticky water the cars coughed out, that’s exactly what this scent was.
He flared his nostrils, it started to overwhelming him.
Prints littered the ground as well, and he compared the size to his own paws.
They’re massive! he exclaimed, whimpering as he thought about how much the dog would tower over him, was seeking him out a good idea after all?
He then remembered him and the other dogs in the pack, if they didn’t group together, they would have surely perished.
As much as I don’t like it… These dogs need our help. They’re just as lost as we were.
Oliver marched on, his nose to the ground, and bobbed tail up high.
Just as he was about to go another direction, he caught a glimpse of something.
Snow-white and rusty fur rising and falling with every raspy pant.
A flat, wide tongue falling out of large, floppy jowls, pointed front teeth peeking out of it’s dark lips.
It’s face was flattened, and wide, with drooping, dark eyes.
Oliver gulped, his docked tail lowering in fear.
But then he saw how exhausted the giant looked, his paws and belly covered in mud, and his long silky fur matted.
How long had he been traveling?
As fate would have it, he ended up here, and found by me…
He knew what he had to do, this was no coincidence.
He needed to save this dog.
Oliver let out a bark, waiting for their eyes to meet.
