Viscets || Suggestions Thread (Open for posting!!)

i agree with all of you, for one viscet inparticular I put my heart and soul into, I lost, don’t get me wrong, in extatic about winning my ubp but as my boyfriend has pointed out to me that he put his heart and soul into one of the legendary event viscets and got only an ru from the competition and I was jealous of him because he chose the angel which was the one I really wanted but it all came full circle when I won my ubp which on the first I’m using for a magnificent crystal viscet which was the legendary type he tried so hard for, I see where he’s coming from but I see that even though I entered every prompt I could, pushing myself just so I would have a chance at getting one of the two legendarys I can’t help but feel the ones who won the legendarys may not have a big connection to their viscets. This is happened to me before, I forced myself to enter a viscet and I turned out not having as big of a connection as I though, but I can’t help but feel also that I didn’t do much to deserve or earn my ubp as much as others and I have tried to get an event legendary.

Adding onto all the summer event discussion; I'm proposing a solution.

How about instead of choosing winners outright; we choose "runner ups" of say, four or more? They then have to post on the same thread with a simple form that's more focused on the event viscet. Lets say like, reusing same prompt but this time centralized around your plans for the viscet with less words required. So you don't have to write 2k words, but maybe 500 or something.

An user can choose not to claim the viscet but instead claim the runner up bundle if they prefer. So this way we can encourage the users to try to get the event viscet by writing a story for them reusing the same prompt, this way if they win; they already have a story for them ready to be worked on. The user(s) whom didn't win perhaps could get a RU, or exchange it for stubs? This event had no RUs, which felt like one of the elements in every event users look forward to.

This all can be put up for discussion and tweaked, of course. I just wanted to type up a solution so we don't keep debating over how fair or unfair the event are,, ^^;

kinda... stepping on the side ^^’ don’t mean to change the subject, but!!

I think it would be really cool to see another charity event up like last year. I know that that event was because of a natural disaster that had occurred, but there are billions out there who need help, and I feel like the charity event brought the community closer in a very happy way. I personally was super overjoyed to see all the batches and customs that came as a result of that, because each and everyone one was symbolic of the help that person gave to save a life out there. Personally, it was a highlight of that season for me and it sparked me into - rather than sealing my money away for stress of the loans I’ll have to pay if I don’t - thinking more into the future and of others and finding myself to be just a little more generous if anything. I just thought I’d lay it out there. I know it wasn’t an event, but it really was a wonderful thing that the community did together, and it made me so proud of everyone to see that total donated in the end <3

howling I wholeheartedly agree with you <3 though I’m sad that I cannot donate if it were to happen because of money conversions so donating $1 it’d be $2 in my currency so I wouldn’t be able to donate :c though maybe when I get a part time job I would!, this community is just the best <3

The intention was to respond to you sooner, but neither I nor Mint knew how we wanted to word the response. But here goes anyway.
Honestly, the charity event was amazing. But it was supposed to only be a one-time deal (which was stated as much) and in some ways it didn't feel right to bring it back. I loved that the community came together last year, but there were a couple of negatives that came from it too.
One, is that the feather wings mutation practically skyrocketted after the event. And when we stopped allowing people to donate to receive the feathered wing potions, the "sales" trickled. We wouldn't be able to offer the feathered wings again, and without those a charity event would be nowhere near as successful.
But the other thing, and the biggest thing, is the bullying and bashing (and guilting) that came from it. I won't bring up any names here, as that's really unfair to the person(s) involved. But it took this really awesome thing that the community was doing for the greater good, and it just soured it. After the way a couple of people behaved toward fellow community members-- about spending money to give to charity no less-- I just don't see us ever doing another one in the future.

December is definitely an off month. And while I think it's a good idea (and so does Mint) to also take January off, we're going to wait a little longer to see how well we do with clearing out everything before we come together as staff and discuss it/make a final decision. But it was definitely a good idea to bring to the table.
As for the other suggestion, while it is a good idea in theory it's not possible for us to do. Mint can't keep up with both during the month, not between that, other viscet responsibilities, familial responsibilities, and commissions. We've talked about something like that before, and while having a month off would be great, it would cause her specifically to neglect other important, irl (and viscet) things in the on month of the nursery/hatchery. Whereas the current set up lets her only have to worry about the nursery or hatchery and all the issues and questions that arise over it for the first half of the month. And it doesn't much help the other artists either because we'll get the same amount of submissions just all in the same month. Unless we still only let each person claim one viscet a month/still only put up two batch requests for the month period-- and I believe the community would be very unhappy with that/backlash over it a bit.
