Well, @Thalassic, I would totally move the tanks but we honestly have nowhere else to put them ;-; I'll add some pics of the tanks, the ones lower to the ground instead of on the shelf are the ones I'm most worried about. As for the guinea pigs, keeping the cat out of the one with our boys is easy, but my mom's door stays open a lot of the time, which has our girl in it. Her cage stays open 24/7 because she gets stressed out if she can't pop her head out and "talk" to you, but she's on a pretty high dresser and I doubt that a cat could jump to it without having to actually move things over to the dresser, so that wouldn't be much of a problem, I think. As for the hamster, she lives on the dresser in my room that I share with my older sisters. With summer ending, we won't need to leave the door open for the air conditioner so we can keep the door closed if we have to, and the hamster lives in a tank+cage combo where the cat wouldn't be able to even squeeze a paw through, and Blossom sleeps most of the day anyway so a cat playing with the cage wouldn't stress her out unless she's awake. As for the fish, would something like a baby gate work to keep the cat away?

Here's the tanks:
Go here and then check the rest of the stash

The tanks I'm most worried about are Tank 1 and Tank 2+3, but the shelf tanks are also reachable because of a chair near the shelf...

Definitely get some lids for those tanks. If they can't be moved, then getting lids is going to be the most effective way to keep your fish safe. A baby gate wouldn't be very effective to keep a cat out, they don't really "follow the rules", they just do whatever they want, and that includes jumping over baby gates to get into places they shouldn't be. I would also be concerned about the female guinea pig. Even if she's on a high dresser, you would be surprised how high cats can jump.

We can't view the rest of your stash if you don't link to it.

And don't underestimate how high cats can jump. I've seen them climb doorways and jump on top of doors from just a low stool so I really wouldn't risk it. To be perfectly honest, it sounds like adding a cat to your family would just mean trouble to your other pets so I'd advise against it, at least until you can safely and 100% securely separate the other pets from where the cat will be.

One of my old boys could clear 6" 0 from a stand still ( granted I did teach him agility  ) and another of my friends cats can jump on the door just from the floor. So yea cats can pretty much jump on to anything given the chance.

This is kind of an odd question, but does any one know a simple vision acquity test for cats.

I have a Siamese mix, with very pale eyes, and I have noticed that it seems more often than not she relies on smell rather than sight. Her eyes also don’t accommodate to light as a normal cats do. ( I do know how to check this)

I do know that she can see some however, as she reacts to objects to objects coming near her. And she can follow things when they are infront of her, such as a toy or laser light.

It’s not really a problem, not one I immediately need to seek vet care for anyway - I am just curious how poor her vision really is

I can't help you with a vision test, but there are known eye issues in the Siamese breed, or more correctly, that go with the Siamese colouring which is in all sorts of other breeds now. Breeders have tried to breed the cross eyed trait out of Siamese particularly, but at the expense of the cat's general vision. Does your cat have the pointed colouring?

Cats in general can't see very well at a distance, their sight is geared to catching small prey, so about 20m is as far as they can see clearly. They also can't see things very close up (ie their food whilst they are eating) due to the shape of their face.

I did have a cat who was blind from birth (an ordinary black moggie) and he managed just fine. He would jump onto anything he could put his front paws on, and found the one way out of the garden within 20 minutes of first being allowed out... His big problem was that he kept invading the personal space of the cat he came with because he couldn't see her, so she spent a lot of time hitting him.

Testing vision impairment in cats is fairly difficult, and it's honestly just based on guess work unless you get a full eye examination from the vet. There aren't any concrete, proven tests you can perform on your cat, but this site might give you some ideas on how you can test her vision at home.
Like Brynmala mentioned, vision impairment is somewhat common in cats with siamese coloration/breed, so it wouldn't be surprising, or really an issue, if your cat has trouble seeing. Cats are very adaptable, so it's likely your cat has already become accustomed to her vision and shouldn't really have any trouble getting around or doing things a normal cat would do.

My cat, Wynnie, is a lynx point siamese mix with blue eyes, she has vision issues, her pupils are always more dilated than the other cats', but she gets along just fine for the most part. The only things she seems to have trouble with is fast-moving objects and seeing in the dark.

That's interesting about Wynnie, but it sounds like she gets on well. My old Siamese (Cleo) used to have eyes that would flick backwards and forwards (nystagmus), and I've noticed the same in my current almost-certainly-British Shorthair, (Noodle, seal point). It doesn't seem to affect them adversely though.

Does anyone brush their cat's teeth? I've been thinking about getting some cat toothpaste and some sort of toothbrush for my 1 year old cat. If anyone has any experience with brushing cat's teeth, can you please tell me what types of toothbrush worked best, the toothpaste you used/your cat liked and any other tips. Thanks!

(He already lets me me look in his mouth and touch his teeth)
