Seconds from midnight, the lightning struck twice.
In the thick rolling fog, no lamp would suffice.
The whistle of the carriage, the click of the tracks,
A night for espionage, but he's uncovering facts.
With a flick of his fingers, a cigarette doused,
With the shuffle of footsteps, suspicions aroused.
In the dim of the moonlight, through the thick pouring rain,
A man with a secret makes his way to the train.
Two strangers with pasts, holding keys to the case,
One watched after the other, poised to give chase.
The shriek of the steam engine, blaring last call,
Then the crack of a gunshot sound the second man's fall.
The first swore a curse as she dashed to the scene,
while someplace close by, frightened onlookers scream.
His intentions to save rendered instantly moot,
with a bullet to the head fate was made absolute.
A quick scan of the station left nothing to be seen,
the assassin long gone through the smoke and the steam.
Then a noise of frustration as distant sirens wail,
to come all this way, work this hard, and to fail.
The clock strikes midnight as thunder rolls low.
The first man leaves the body, but has nowhere to go.
His journey for naught, now unsure what to do,
the mystery undone with the death of his final clue.
Congrats, François Deneuve is now yours! I loved how you managed to keep up the rhyming through out your entry and have the clear inspiration from the longneck .
I am also awarding 5 scooter stones to Chiikapuu for your entry. Your gif was quite beautiful and I enjoyed how you matched it to the quote.
