Wolfstep had been pacing around the camp since sunrise by the time Pantherstar finally sent him out to patrol. Wolfstep and Kestreltail may not have been mates any longer, but apparently worry for the one bearing your kits was bound to happen, mates or not.

Poppysky had vanished into the nursery a few hours before sunrise, after awakening to the sound of Kestreltail's screeches. Pantherstar didn't know much about kitting, but he was fairly certain there wasn't supposed to be this much noise involved.

Wolfstep was still out of camp when Poppysky emerged from the nursery, head lowered as she carried a small scrap of fur in her mouth. She padded up to Pantherstar, and set the kitten down "I thought you might want to see this." she whispered. Pantherstar frowned, and examined the kit. When he saw what she was talking about, his head jerked back "What happened to it?" Poppysky's ears drooped slightly as she spoke "Something went wrong, the kittens got stuck. This was the only way to save it. There's two others that came out before, but the fourth..." she shook her head.

Mushroomnose softly lifted her head "I'm sure she'll be glad to hear it, we've been worried about them, especially with the journey here." she dropped her head back onto her nest and let a purr rumble out of her chest as she felt her kits kneading her stomach.

Introduction

A massive, stocky tom cat stalked through the empty streets, swerving out of the light to hide himself. The street lights were flickering temporarily, swarms of bugs fluttering by them, desperate to reach the light, like every living creature in this town. they were desperate. desperate to leave this darkness. this lonesome terror. they all hated it. they all hated searching the practically empty dumpsters for food, searching every corner of the streets to save themselves from starvation. the tom crept into a narrow entrance between two, abandoned buildings. it led into a small clearing where the tom sat down. he closed his eyes, calling to his deceased family members to guide him.

“greetings, horreur.” a feline purred, nuzzling the tom. “greetings, mére.” he responded with a purr aswell. “what have you called to me for?” the she inquired, her blind eyes staring at him, as if she had perfect vision. horreur opened his mouth, beginning to speak before his mother faded away. the scene faded and he was left in complete darkness. “find the forest, mon fils, start a royaume and lead them” a voice murmured. as horreur turned to see who it was, his eyes flew open. he understood. he was to lead a kingdom of cats and reach the top.

Territory

Le Royaume Déchu takes place in a dense forest. in the center of the forest lies an empty clearing where old, mossy stones are shaped like caves. this is where the members of the tribe sleep. in total, there are five dens. the king, his queen, and his heir live in a den called the royal’s den, the medic(s) and their trainee(s) stay in the healing den, the warriors live in the warriors den, the trainees live in the trainees den, and the mothers, fathers, and nestlings live in the nursery. by the royal’s den, there is a large pile of large rocks where the king will make clan announcements. There is a large river full of fish within the territory that they use for fresh water and fishing, and there are many creatures they hunt on land aswell. outside of the territory lies an old, abandoned city. this city was recently abandoned, most humans leaving their beloved pets behind. the medic(s) and medic’s trainee(s) go to where the founder first learned he was to create a tribe to speak with their ancestors.

Types of Cats

Le Royaume Déchu has all sorts of cats. fat and skinny, long-haired and short-haired, etc. most cats in the clan are previously from the city which is now abandoned. the humans that used to live there had all sorts of cat breeds.

Ranking

leader - king - only 1 cat may obtain this rank at a time - only males - unless you are family, you may not speak to the king about anything besides clan matters unless you are spoken to. the king has no belief of religion, but they ask their deceased family members to gift the tribe with a rank of his choice when needed. if the king finds the queen unfit to birth a healthy heir, he decides her fate. the queen may return to her normal rank or be exiled, no one knows.

[new!] leader’s mate - queen - only 1 cat may obtain this rank at a time - only females - the queen is always there to speak with her mate in case he needs help with a decision. the queen will birth all litters of the king and she will be the mother of the heir.

deputy - heir - only 1 cat may obtain this rank at time - only males - the heir is always the king’s first born son, unless his first born is disabled. if this occurs, the king must find a new queen to birth healthy litters.

medicine cat - medic - only 2 cats may obtain this rank at a time - any sex - the medic is a cat of any sex who has knowledge in herbology. the medic’s trainee may not become a full medic until they have mastered herbology.

medicine cat apprentice - medic’s trainee - only 2 cats may obtain this rank at a time - any sex - the medic’s trainee is hand-picked my the medic(s) as a kit. when they reach the age of a trainee, they begin their training in herbology. medic trainees may not become a full medic until. they have mastered herbology and there is only one full medic at the moment.

warriors - any sex - these cats fight off intruders, feed the clan, mark borders, etc.

apprentices - trainees - any sex - trainees are 5-? moon old nestlings who’ve started their training and have been weaned from their mothers. these cats are trained in all skills and their final rank is chosen by the king.

queens - mothers - female - mothers are expecting females or females with nestling(s). mothers will remain in the nursery until their nestling(s) become trainee(s).

[new!] fathers - male - fathers are the father of a litter of a nestling(s) fathers will watch over and bond with their nestling(s) until they become trainee(s).

kit - nestling - any sex - newborn-five moon old cats.

the rank elder was removed. when a cat can no longer serve their clan they are sent out of the kingdom to pass wherever they please.

ixxx▬it occured to bluemoon, briefly, that, perhaps, she was a tiny bit biased; but, despite this, she thought that mushroomnose's kits were absolutely beautiful. and healthy, according to shadowleaf, a fact that lifted a massive weight from the soothsayer's weary shoulders. her clan was flourishing, now; the first litter had been born, shallowsong had left at dawn to try and convince a small group of felines to join them, and shadowleaf had mentioned that he'd found a rather large cache of herbs within the territory.

Grief hung over the Clan like the fog over the pond in the park a few streets down. Kestreltail’s burial had just ended and the Clan bid their farewells to her and Skykit before returning to camp. They had chosen to make a quiet spot near the forest as the gravesite and they had placed a blooming flower on the mound of dirt where she and her daughter laid together. Wolfstep was staring off in the corner of camp. He was approached by Poppysky and followed her reluctanltly to Firenose’s box. The queen would be taking care of Sunkit and the three tom-kits that were relatively healthy. Firenose and Blossomfang were getting them settled as the father pushed his way into the box. He glared at the kittens as soon as he entered. Blossomfang’s eyes narrowed. She understood that the warrior was grieving, but he could at least show some kind of affection for his remaining kin. “They need names, Wolfstep. You are their father.” Poppysky explained gently. Wolfstep licked his lips. “Mothkit.” He meowed curtly, nodding at the first, cream colored kit. He named the second, gray colored tom Pebblekit after his small size and rocky appearance. But he paused at the final tom. The one who had lost his legs due to complications. Wolfstep started to bristle and his eyes narrowed. “Stumpykit.” He spat. Firenose flattened her ears. “That’s no name.” She stated. Her tone was gentle, but it was firm and carried a subtle warning. Wolfstep wrinkles his nose. “It is and it will be what other call him. It suits him.” He pressed. Blossomfang curled her lip. “You can’t name a kit after its disability. He’ll have a hard enough time as it is. You can’t just” She growled, but was interrupted by Wolfstep. “Shut it! I can name that thing as I wish! That...That parasite killed Kestreltail! He deserves every scorn and whisper that’s said about him.” Firenose narrowed her eyes and curled her tail protectively around the kit in question. “What kind of father speaks that way about his own son?” She hissed. Wolfstep, who had turned and started walking out the box, looked back at the She-cat. “That disfigured monster is no son of mine.” He spat and exited the den, leaving the three she-cats in shock. Blossomfang growled. “How dare he?” She hissed. “He doesn’t deserve these kits.” Firenose spat. She softened her expression and looked down at the three newborns. “Don’t worry.” She whispered to them “You don’t need him. I will take good care of you.” She leaned down and licked their backs, keeping her nose pressed into Stumpykit’s fur a moment longer than his brothers’. Blossomfang nodded. “If you need anything, Firenose, I’m always here. And I’m sure Sandtuft will help you as well.” She added. Firenose’s brother had a soft spot for kits, and would no doubt help them. She just needed to make sure he didn’t kill Wolfstep. Disgust churned in her stomach. ‘He doesn’t deserve these precious fluff balls.’ She hissed mentally. Dipping her head, she and Poppysky exited into the camp. “Well, Poppysky,” Blossomfang sighed “Looks like you’ll be getting an apprentice soon.” Poppysky echoed her sigh. “I don’t like predetermining cats’ destinies, but with his injuries, (she swallowed) S-Stumpykit will probably never be a warrior. So yes, I suppose I will.” Blossomfang moved her eyes to her paws. “I hope the little thing is okay. I hope he lives long enough to feel love from someone. Because we all know Wolfstep won’t give it to him.” Poppysky nodded, clearly exhausted. Blossomfang nudged her friend gently. “You should get some rest.” She whispered, touching her nose to the medicine cat’s ear. Poppysky nodded again and sleepily walked to her box, head down and tail and paws dragging. Blossomfang blinked worriedly. Would she be okay? It was only Poppysky’s second birthing, and her patient had gone to StarClan. It must be rough. A rough voice dragged her out of the trance-like thought. “I heard what Wolfstep named his son.” Sandtuft growled “Stumpykit? Really? I would’ve shredded his ears off. I could never name my son that!” Blossomfang chuckled quietly, amused by his anger. “I know.” She meowed, tucking her head into his neck fur, seeming to have surprised Sandtuft. His reaction of jumping slightly made Blossomfang smile even more. “That’s why you’ll be a great father.” She purred “When you find the right mate, of course.” She pulled away from her friend. The tom’s cheeks were flushed and his muscles were clearly tense. Her promise to Firenose popped into her mind. “Oh, I hope you don’t mind, but I told Firenose you could help her out with the kits if she needed it. Four toms at once will be rough.” She told him. Sandtuft nodded. “Oh yea, I’ll gladly give her a paw.” He assured with a sweet smile. Blossomfang grinned slyly. “It’ll be good practice.” She meowed, standing up. She turned and flicked his chin with her tail tip and walked away, leaving a very confused Sandstep in her wake.

As the cats made their way into the forest, the three following Horreur had no doubt in their mind that he would come up with a good plan for them. He'd been the one to take charge of their area of the city when the upwalkers had left, surely, others would remember that as well.

With no twolegs, the city was no longer a safe place to live. Not that it really ever had been, what with white-coated upwalkers trying to catch them, put them in cages and make them into kittypets, and with the ones that drank fire-water.
