MoorClanKindness heals what was broken, mercy clears what was marred and peace brings back what was lost.Number of Cats: 61| Males: 30 | Females: 29 | Last Post: X Frostpaw’s silver-rimmed eyes narrowed, watching Mintpaw climbing up the ladder with no small amout of jealousy. He and Stormpaw had a mother, and although Fogwhisker had been doting to her as well, Frostpaw still longed to see her parents. Not to welcome them with open arms, but to let them know exactly how she had felt.
Hearing her name, Frostpaw was shaken from her thoughts and quietly trotted up to Garlicstar. The white she-cat gave a kindly smile, blinking softly in the sunlight that came flickering through the roof and lighting up the dust in the air; Garlicstar exuded peace and goodwill, which Frostpaw too envied. If only she was that calm, that peace with the world that she felt had wronged her.
Froststrike. She liked it, and with a smirk, the new warrior stalked off to join her friends. Mintfang was buzzing as usual, talking animatedly to Laurelfur who appeared to have dozed off; he was quiet and dull, but at least he didn’t mess with her or her friends. Next to him was Stormflower, who was the polar opposite of Mintfang. Shy, cautious, a cat of a few words.
‘’We also have a new apprentice, a new kit and several new warriors joining!’’ Garlicstar called out, catching Froststrike by surprise; it seemed so new to have announcements of cats joining when they generally just let them in as if they’d always been there, in the background and lurking. ‘’Please listen carefully!’’ The leader added, as if Froststrike would ignore her.
‘’Please welcome Waxpaw.’’ A small tom the colour of honey trotted up to Garlicstar, blinking in astonishment at the crowd of cats gathered below; had he expected a smaller group? Perhaps a war-torn gaggle of bickering rebels? Froststrike didn’t know and all she could do was giggle at his shell-shocked expression. ‘’His mentor will be Lizardpath’’ Garlicstar announced loudly, a loud cheer following her words; Waxpaw flinched in surprise, before grinning and bounding over to Lizardpath, who was gasping in surprise and astonishment; he looked like a fish.
A pair of blue-grey cats stepped up with quiet confidence and no want of introduction. ‘’I was the deputy of HyenaClan, Blue the great mind!’’ His voice was reedy and pompous to Froststrike, who wrinkled her nose in disgust; a deputy, so what? They had a couple of former leaders in their ranks. ‘’But I’ll be taking on the name Blueclaw, for simplicity.’’
The other was much more humble, glancing behind her to peer at a tiny kitten that pottered towards her. ‘’I am going to go by Burdockfoot, I too was from HyenaClan.’’ She ushered the silver tabby on, standing protectively over her. ‘’This is Silverkit, my daughter.’’ At least there was a mother that still stuck with her daughter, thought Frostrike with bitterness.
Garlicstar watched the trio settle into the crowd, next to Fogwhisker and Smokeheart. Patiently she waited until everyone was paying attention, before introducing the next warrior; a lithe tortoiseshell tom, with large ears for his head and a wary, vigilant gleam in his eyes. ‘’This is Larknose, a loner that was sadly witness to a clan’s downfall.’’ Garlicstar smiled sympathetically at the tom, tail twitching slowly. ‘’Pleased to have you here, Larknose.’’
‘’Thank you.’’ The tom replied, looking as though he would die for Garlicstar, in turn for her kindness. ‘’I appreciate it, I don’t think I could’ve managed a little longer by myself.’’ Froststrike could believe it honetly, Larknose looked like he hadn’t had a meal in days. ‘’I’ll serve you well.’’ Larknose promised, before quietly disappearing into the crowd of cats, hiding somewhere behind Oakfeather.
The next and last warrior was a black tom with stunning yellow eyes, that appeared to melt from the shadows. ‘’This is Starlingtail.’’ Garlicstar announced, looking like a brand of light beside the tom where no light shone. ‘’And he’ll be one of your comrades.’’ She smiled, watching Starlingtail step into the crowd in brooding silence. ‘’We need all the cats we can get, for what’s to come.’’
Froststrike tensed, craning her neck curiosly. She didn’t like the solemnity of Garlicstar’s voice, she missed the calm of Garlicstar’s tone from earlier; it was a tone that assured you that you were safe, that everything would be okay for once. ‘’What’s going on?’’ mumbled Laurelfur, blinking as though in a daze. ‘’I dunno.’’ responded Mintfang, ears pricked. Although Froststrike rarely saw eye to eye with Mintfang, she too had to agree; what was happening?
‘’I know what’s happening.’’ murmured Stormflower. ‘’And it’s not good.’’
Outside, Vervainthroat prowled with Firepool and Lilystream in tow. The wind howled and tugged on the heather, bounced with the bright vermillon of poppies, and twisted among the copse of blackberry heavy brambles. ‘’You two know why you’re here right?’’ The Siamese crooned, dark tail twisting in the air. ‘’I want to finish what Swanstar started.’’
‘’She’s dead, Vervain!’’ Lilystream sighed, green eyes flashing with concern. ‘’It’s over!’’ And it would stay that way, there was no need to cause trouble, nobody gave them trouble for accompyning the white wraith and in turn, the young warrior didn’t want to cause trouble. ‘’Come on, I wanna congratulate the new warriors.’’ She pleaded, motioning to the mossy walls of the house. ‘’Let’s just go and forget about her, please.’’ As Lilystream looked over the moors, she sighed. ‘’We’ve seen enough death for a lifetime.’’
Firepool nodded silently, from behind Lilystream. ‘’Besides, I don’t think she really meant what she said.’’ The ginger tabby smiled sympathetically at Vervainthroat, as though he were a confused kit. ‘’I think she was lying, but of course she would be…’’ Swanstar had been very sinister, very creepy, and very malicious. ‘’Tyrants rarely speak from the heart.’’
With a growl of frustration, Vervainthroat stomped up to Firepool. ‘’We don’t need her to help us meet our ends.’’ Eyes glittering with passion, Vervainthroat smiled and bristled his silky whiskers. ‘’And what’s a little more death?’’ He reasoned. ‘’We all die in the end, we’re just speeding it up.’’ Vervainthroat knew that he came from a long line of well-to-do kittypets, who fought fiercly to keep others off their patch and the blood of kings and queens coursed through his viens; it was his birthright, Vervainthroat thought, and no cat was going to stop him.
‘’What are you planning?’’ snarled Avocetblaze, crouched on the roof and peering blindly down on the three schemers. ‘’I heard the word death’’ Leaping down to them, the small white molly approached Vervainthroat, pelt bristling with suspicion. ‘’Who do you want to kill?’’
With a squeak, Firepool flinched and stared at Avocetblaze in surprise. ‘’Well, I don’t want to kill anyone!’’ She gabbled, wide-eyed with fear. ‘’Please don’t tell Garlicstar!’’ It was silly of her, Firepool knew that but when faced with the chance of exile, in a clan that could’ve given her a fresh start? Firepool didn’t know what else to do but beg. ‘’Please, Avocet.’’
‘’Be quiet.’’ Vervainthroat ordered, and Firepool fell into a whimpering silence. ‘’And you are right, we do want to kill someone and we certainly were planning.’’ He sneered at the blind she-cat. ‘’It’s Garlicstar and Briarcloud; are you in?’’ Vervainthroat approached, knowing where this molly’s loyalties were weak. ‘’After-all, I didn’t see either of them caring about what Bramblefur did to your brother.’’
Lilystream gasped softly, glancing fearfully at the quick-tempered molly. ‘’It was an accident!’’ She hissed, patched tail lashing to and fro. ‘’Bramblefur regrets it, you know…’’ Lilystream tried to soothe Avocetblaze’s murderous wrath but it was no use, Vervainthroat had already goaded it.
‘’I’ll turn a deaf ear.’’ Avocetblaze promised. ‘’As long as you take out Bramblefur.’’
Vervainthroat smiled, as though she had asked for a blackbird in exchange for his mouse. ‘’But, of course.’’ The Siamese agreed to the oath, with a firm nod. ‘’As long as your lips are sealed.’’ He echoed. ‘’Don’t say anything to the others, if you do…’’ With a knowing sigh, Vervainthroat padded off. ‘’You fill in the blanks.’’ He didn’t need to call Lilystream and Firepool, who followed as obedient as labradors and as fearful as mice.
Froststrike sat astounded, shocked that StarClan had the nerve to speak to them after all that they had done to MoorClan. ‘’What? We just dealt with Swanstar.’’ Froststrike growled under her breath, turning to her fellow warriors. ‘’Do we seriously have to go through troubles all over again?’’ No longer was she growling but sighing with exsesperation. ‘’This is getting ridiculous.’’
‘’It really is.’’ Mintfang replied, evidently sharing the same sentiment as her. ‘’But we’ll stop it, we’re warriors now.’’ The grey tabby smiled determinedly. ‘’Come on, we can do it.’’ Mintfang nudged his twin brother, trying to instill courage in the meek Stormflower. ‘’We’ll make it.’’
Laurelfur got up slowly, smiling at Mintfang. ‘’I admire your courage.’’ That was all the grey tom said, before ambling up to Thriftclaw; the fierce ginger molly had joined the clan at the same time as Laurelfur and it was generally assumed that Thriftclaw was a sort of sister figure to the quiet and plain-mannered tom.
‘’I guess he’s not interested then.’’ Froststrike sighed, fluffy tail twitching. ‘’But I am, and I will fight tooth and claw for MoorClan.’’ She promised, blue eyes as clear as azure waters. This clan took her in and serve it, she would. ‘’Come on, Elmstorm’s calling us.’’ Froststrike rose to her paws, and turned to pad towards the older warrior.
‘’We need to secure the borders.’’ The dark tabby murmured, glancing at her quiet siblings. ‘’I don’t know what the bad thing is but there’s no harm in giving the borders a once over.’’ Elmstorm pointed out, turning to Froststrike. ‘’You come with me and bring Hawkttuft.’’
Froststrike wasted no time obeying this command.
Elmstorm, Froststrike and Hawktuft go on a border patrol.
Hazelstone, Mintfang and Darkfur go on a border patrol.
Beechstripe, Stormflower and Sparrowcloud go on a border patrol.
