Time seemed to almost stand still when it happened. One minute-or perhaps it was only a second?-you were fine. You were living your happy, normal life. Aside from a few things, you would never want to change your life.

But then it happened.
You were cast into a different time.
You don't know how, but it happened.

The only thing that you do know for sure is that you shouldn't be here, and that you need to get back to your own time.

However, leaving may be harder than you expect...

The slam of the large door startled Janel a bit, though she was the one who slammed it in the first place. "Don't you do this young lady! Come back here this instant! You can't walk away from this, the family needs you to do this for us!" Dara, her impertinent mother, called through the window. The words just went in of ear, and out of the other. Janel didn't care about her family anymore, it was just her and Dara. Like I would marry a bloody fool of her choice. The nerve of that woman makes my blood boil on an uncontrollable level! She stormed into the barn to get on her horse. "Drat!" The gear was gone, that was a downer for Janel. "Fellicia, come on.", she carefully mounted the white mare.

Her shoes were like ballet flats, they didn't do much when Janel tried to get Fellicia to speed up. "Go girl, I beg of you." Fellicia all of a sudden sped up, it was like her bit communicated with Janel's emotions. "To London, anywhere? I just need to get away from here", she whispered. The sun was starting to set, and the clouds were turning a light pink color. I wonder what this sunset will look like 200 years from now. That thought wandered through her head like a lost soul. Thinking about it, she was a lost soul. Now getting engaged to some rich prick that her mother had chosen for her..That was just the last straw, Janel had lost her mind cooped up in that house. She was going to find a way to get out of England, the train station was clearly the only option she could leave by.

(Later on)

It was now getting dark, and lodging became an issue. Janel knew that she had to find someplace where it wouldn't rain on her. The clouds looked threatening, and she felt like she was getting a bit sick. One cottage was hidden off the path, it stood out because of it's spooky aura. That was the only place she had seen, for a while now. Janel decided to go on a gut feeling to stay there. Walking up to the building after hitching her Fellicia, her horse, to a rusty spot in a one celled barn. She knocked on the decaying door, the place scared her a bit. Janel turned around, to see an old woman who had straight white hair.

Her voice was raspy, and dry as she said"Hello young lady, are you looking for a place to stay?" The woman could tell that she was traveling. What else would a girl that young be doing with all of her things? The woman opened the door to let herself, and the girl in. "I must warn you that nobody has stayed with me for a while, there is a room upstairs you can use. I advise you not to touch anything, things up there are old, and fragile." The 'Inn' sign on her door was slowly becoming rotten, the old woman didn't want to give the effort of making a new one. She was getting old, and would die soon enough.

Taking a few steps into the house, Janel smiled and nodded. "Thank you, I'll be careful." The girl then took out her coin purse to pay for the room. "Here, fifty pounds you can keep the rest. I don't really need all the money." The woman nodded, and then Janel headed upstairs to the only room there. The room was more of an attic, it had lots of old antiques in it. Something that drew her attention was a multicolored egg on a gold pedestal. It was beautiful, but covered in a thick layer of dust. She won't mind minor dusting will she? Janel certainly hoped not. Her handkerchief was in her right dress pocket. Carefully pulling it out, she unfolded it, and used it to dust the egg off. A sharp pain went through her body, something had hit her on the head. Janel suddenly blacked out.

(( Oh my goodness, I am so very sorry for not posting. </3 ))

The rain hit against the window, creating a soft, smooth tapping sound. After listening to it for such a long time, it had become a slow, steady rhythm. Tap. Tap tap. Tap. It had become a calming beat to Tanner as he sat there in his room, sitting on the window-seat. He remembered, faintly, as a kid being told not to sit next to the window while it was storming. However, Tanner never listened. After all, what could happen? Although the glass in the window was thin, it protected him. Staring out into the storm, Tanner frowned slightly as he watched a streak of lightning erupted from the sky. He waited for a few moments, listening for the familiar rumble of thunder to follow. When it did, Tanner finally looked away from the window. His eyes found the digital clock that rested on his nightstand. It read nine o' clock. He'd been sitting in his room for almost ten hours straight. And he wasn't planning on leaving any time soon, either. After having such a huge fight with his mother, he didn't see how he could, for he knew there would only be more shouting that would result. The memory from earlier was still fresh and raw in his brain, and he scowled as he remembered.

Tanner stepped through the front door, his head bent forward slightly. He looked tired, judging by the dark circles that were under both of his eyes. He closed the door as silently as possible, but it didn't matter, for as he turned around he was facing a woman with fire in her eyes. "Er...hey, mom," Tanner said sheepishly, rubbing at the back of his neck. "You didn't come home last night," was all she said. It was a simple statement, but there was clear anger behind it. At first, Tanner made no reply. However, he soon nodded his head ever-so slightly. "Well?" his mother began, "Where were you?" Before he even had a chance to reply, his mother took a step forward. "You were with those kids again, weren't you?" Although Tanner knew this wasn't the time for backtalk, he couldn't help but say the first thing that came to his mind. "Well...I was with kids, yes. I suppose you'll have to be more specific if-" Tanner was cut off by his mother. "You know exactly who I mean. Those rotten kids you've been beginning to spend time with; the ones who I refuse to allow to come over here." Tanner narrowed his eyes. "I don't see why you hate them so much. They're..." his voice trailed off. They weren't nice people, at all. And, if he were to tell the truth, he didn't even like spending so much time around them. However, the thought of it angering his mother was the only reason he did. For the past year, that was his sole goal in life; to make her as mad as possible. While he was thinking this, his mother had continued shouting.

"I don't want you to continue hanging around those people!" his mother shouted. "They've been a bad influence on you!" Tanner scowled at her. "How so? So what, I've come home late a few times. I don't see the big deal, honestly." By now, his mother was seething. "Half of the time, you don't come home at all! What am I supposed to do with you, Tanner?" Tanner stepped away from the door finally, his expression as angry as his mothers. "You're just don't want me to leave like dad did." The second the words had left his mouth, he knew he'd gone to far. The anger disapeared from his mothers face, replaced by hurt. For a few moments, they both stood there. Tanner finally just shook his head, stepped around his mother, and went towards his room without another word.

Tanner ran a hand through his hair, his eyes closed. He knew he shouldn't have said what he'd said. He also knew he shouldn't be acting the way he had been. Ever since his father had left, Tanner had done whatever he could to anger his mother. From sneaking out, to hanging out with the wrong people, to his grades dropping. He told himself that he didn't know why he'd started to act in such a way, but in the back of his mind he told himself that it was because he blamed his mother for his father leaving. He knew it wasn't right to think this, but he still did.

Shaking his head slightly to himself, Tanner stood and stretched. His shoulders cracked softly as he did so, causing him to wince at the sound. His gaze drifted around his room silently; he couldn't stand being in this room for a minute longer. He strode across his room, opening the door a crack. He glanced out into the hall, but the only sound he heard was of the television downstairs. Tanner realized that his mother must still be down there. Frowning slightly, he shut his door once more before going back over to his window.
Tanner had snuck out before, but never out of his window. He could easily drop from his window, onto the roof that hung outside of his window. From there, it was an easy climb to the garage and then only about a ten foot drop to the ground. However, everything was wet outside. He knew that it wouldn't be very safe at all. Despite this, he opened his window gingerly. Taking a deep breath, he stepped out onto the roof. His sneakers slipped slightly, but he kept his balance by holding onto the roof. He began to make his way towards the edge of the roof, towards the garage, taking each step inch by inch.

Soon, Tanner found himself on the ground. Sighing in relief and trying to calm his thudding heart, he began to jog away from his house. He didn't know where he was going, or where he'd end up when he finally tired out, but he knew any place would be better than his house.

(( Ah, I apoligize for the terrible post. 3: It's not nearly as fancy/nice as yours. Plus, I know it was a fail start for my character. ))

In the middle of a storm the girl from another time lay on the ground. The place where the girl was..She couldn't really tell, Janel shot up from her spot when a bolt of lightning hit. A small shriek came out of her mouth, she wasn't sure what scared her more, almost getting hit by the sky's wrath, or not knowing where in the world she was. There was rain, she knew that much at least. Janel looked down at her soaked dark green dress and coat, the girl knew she was going to get sick if she didn't hurry and find new clothes, and or shelter. Food, clothes, shelter. The things needed for a human to survive raced through her head. A loud siren went off, then something on wheels zoomed past Janel. The blue and red lights were still there when she closed her eyes. How in the world did they get moving so fast? How did they make colored lanterns without a visible flame?

What happened..Where am I? The girl felt a bit feint. Janel had to keep going, she needed to take care of herself first, then find out other information about where she was. The rain was different then the rain at home, this rain tasted a little bit like something that was was slightly sour. A street, it was different then her streets, but people were running on them. They were taking shelter from the rain underneath stores. Janel left the small grassy area she was in and headed for one of the store's windows. There was several bright colored signs that said Open, and some words she didn't understand. "What's a ...Cheeto? Che-eto? C-heeto?.." Janel didn't know what was in the display before her.

Janel let the lights, and display amaze her for a little while. After that, she felt like she stood out. People passing her had on bright vivid colors, and long coats that seemed to repel the rain. The dress and coat she was wearing now, they were a little tattered, and worn. She saw one boy who was wearing dark color glasses keep wiping off his bright colored shoes. Those shoes looked strange, she wasn't aware of the style or the large check on the shoe. At least I am able to read some of the things here, it would be worse if they were in a non native language. Janel had only learned some French from her mother, and a book she was reading.

Most of the people she saw were using umbrellas. Speaking of things.. Janel finally realized that she had none of ther things with her. The only familiar thing she had was her handkerchief that was in her dress pocket. Something like the blue and red lit carriage zoomed by. "So fast.." There were more lights, and more sounds. Everything seemed to be coming together at once, lights, sounds, lights, sounds. Janel's head felt like it was going to explode, the girl slumped to the ground against the glass. She shut her eyes, and tried to block out everything. Janel was doing a great job of it, until someone tripped over her. Janel got up and didn't know how to respond.

Janel decided to keep on wandering, she saw streets, shops, and more carriages. After walking past the store area, Janel got to see houses. Something familiar! , She thought. There were several intersections, but Janel hadn't seen a reason to cross any of them yet. As she walked, the stores became houses, and Janel found herself to be lost. "This is a disaster." The cold was getting to her at last, but Janel decided to keep on. A boy was running without an umbrella, and away from the houses it seemed. The girl tiled her head a bit trying to get a beet look at what in the world she was witnessing.

Tanner had to refrain from flinching as the rain smacked against his face. It stung rather badly, but he pushed on. The world flashed by him as he ran and he only caught glimpses of things. The quick flash of a person's face, the bright light of a store window, the large bulk of a parked car. None of it mattered, though. The only thing that Tanner cared about, the only thing that was in his mind was getting away from his mother and from his house. He knew that she would soon be going up to check on him, to either apoligize for yelling or to yell some more, and that when she found his open window and empty room she would immidiately go looking for him. Maybe; lately, she had stopped. As if she'd given up on him. However, just in case she did, he wanted to put as much room between him and that house as possible.

Finally, he slowed down. He was breathing hard and his heart was thudding against his chest rapidly. The only thing he could compare it to was the fluttering of a hummingbird's wings. He leaned against a building for a moment. The bricks scratched against his back and were wet, but Tanner ignored it. He was beyond out of breath, and he was beginning to regret his decision to leave the house. It was only going to hurt his mother more. Swearing under his breath, he leaned his head back against the bricks behind him. He couldn't take much more of this, he really couldn't. Sooner or later, one of them was going to crack. It would probably be his mother. She's going to end up shipping me off to some private school across the country, just so she doesn't have to deal with me anymore, Tanner thought, only slightly bitterly.

Stepping away from the building, he went towards the edge of the sidewalk. Unlike some of the others out in the streets, Tanner didn't even seem to notice the rain. Most of the people were huddled under the roofs of stores, or under their umbrellas, but not Tanner. He was beginning to get soaked to the bone, it seemed.
As he waited to cross the street, his eyes darted from car to car, waiting for an opening in the ever-lasting line of them. Suddenly, he felt his fluttering heart stop. A silver and blue truck was approaching. My mom, he thought, his eyes widening. It was the same car she drove. Despite not being able to know if it was her, Tanner couldn't help but bolt across the street, away from the car. His lungs were on the verge of bursting. Glancing behind him, he could see into the car now that he was at a better angle. It was an older man, with greying hair. Definitely not his mother. However, fear kept him running. His feet kept going, even though he felt like just laying down to rest.

If he'd been paying attention, if his mind hadn't been buzzing, maybe he would have seen her. Maybe he could have stopped in time before it happened. However, Tanner wasn't paying attention in the slightest when he ran into a girl walking down the street. His body met hers with a muffled thud, causing him to fall backwards, onto the cement. He winced in pain at the feeling of his palms scraping against it when he tried to catch himself, unsucessfully.

Without even bothering to make sure he was okay, he looked over to the girl who he'd run into. "I'm so..." he began quickly, but his voice trailed off when he saw her appearance. She was wearing some sort of older-looking dress, the kind he'd seen the women wearing in his History books from school. The only thing that made sense to him was that she was some sort of actor, protraying the role of a woman from older times. "Er...I'm so sorry," he continued, realizing he was staring.Wiping the dirt from his palms onto his jeans, he stood and took a step towards her, offering her his hand to help her up. "Are you okay?" The girl seemed to be about his age, maybe a year or so younger. She wore no makeup, unlike most of the girls who Tanner saw these days. She had an odd air to her, as if she didn't quite fit in with the rest of the people around them. Although, aside from her appearance, Tanner couldn't quite place how.

Janel was looking at another carriage like thing, this one was silver colored however. The next thing she knew, she was falling because someone had run into her. The girl fell to the ground landing on her side, the street was abnormally hard. Janel picked herself up, and wondered if the boy had a speech impediment or something. He kept on trying to saying something. Finally the boy apologized, and that made her feel a bit better about what happened. Then she realized that he was staring at something, something was off. Janel looked around to try to find the cause of the long gaze, more like the target... She couldn't find anything different, then she realized it was herself.

Janel then decided to comment on the boy's gaping. "Stop gaping, and look at me like I'm a person. While your at it, don't make yourself look like a bloody idiot who runs into people for a living!" Her tone was harsh and she had a heavy accent. Her brown hair was falling in her face now, it had come out of it's bun. She quickly tried to fix her hair, having it in the way always annoyed Janel. "Why are you looking at me like that anyway? I should be the one looking at YOU. You people have carriages without horses, flashing lights, ridiculous looking shoes, and whatever C-heet-oo's !"(Her interpretation of the pronunciation) The girl sighed as she stood up fully again, the boy didn't seem to mind getting rained on.

This was her chance to ask some questions if she didn't scare him off first. What should I ask? What could I say? Hmm, shall I start off by name, then ask the date? That sounds like a good plan, after that say that you aren't from around here, and then if he asks where say London, or somewhere by it.. The girl had a plan and everything, Janel was a smart girl, she knew not to ruin chances that she got. The onlyu troubling thing was, would he belive me? Janel shook her head slightly, he has to right? It is the truth I am telling after all.

Janel was a firm believer that the truth will always prevail, and if you get tangled in a web of lies, the spider can just eat them alive. She had gotten this belief when she was quite young. Her point was proven when she was asked to marry the lie master, 'Mr. Connor'. The name made her enraged, but Janel needed to stay focused on her current situation. If Janel blew this chance to ask questions, where in the world was she going to go then? Invading someone's home would not be smart in the slightest, the girl thought as she stood in the rain.

Tanner stood there, dumbfounded, as the girl began to shout at him. She had a rather thick accent; it sounded somewhat English. However, it didn't sound...well, not quite like the English accents sounded nowadays. Yet another thing odd about this girl.

At her words, Tanner continued to gape. It took him a few good, long moments for him to finally find his voice and get over the shock and confusion of what she'd said. "C-heet-oos? Carriages?" At first, he only continued to stare. His expression turned from a confused one, to a slightly irritated one with a small frown. "You're crazy. You're absolutely a wack-job." He shook his head, taking a small step away from the girl. "I'm only staring because...well, have you seen the way you're dressed? How am I the weird one? Look around! Do you see anyone else dressed as you are? Besides, I'm not the only one staring. And now, what with you talking in the way you are, what do you expect me to think of that?"

Tanner knew he was being a bit defensive, only because the girl had shouted at him for staring at her odd appearance. And he wasn't the only one; many who passed had to do a double-take after they first saw the girl's appearance.
She was attractive, Tanner had to give her that. However, it wasn't the same type of attractive that girls these days looked like. These days, they had to cake on about an inch of makeup, just to make themselves think they looked half decent. In Tanner's opinion, it only made them look worse. What with the spray tans and colored-hair, no one actually looked like themselves anymore. However, this girl...she seemed different, in that sense as well. As if this were her, naturally.

The girl frowned at the boy. There goes my chance. I need to straighten this boy out. Janel thought as she opened her mouth for another lecture. "I am not the mad one, you are the strange ones. I wan on my way to a train to get to London, and now I'm wherever this place is! My horse is nowhere to be found, and walking doesn't seem to be productive anymore." Janel didn't see any point in her story truthful from the boy's side. It's hopeless, I should just go find someone who might understand what in the world I'm talking about.

The girl sighed once again. "Though you think I am mad, I am not dumb in the slightest. I do realize that I don't fit in with this time period. I fit in with my time. 1812, are you aware of what date it is now?I really have no clue, and I lost all of my money. It wouldn't do any good now I believe, as so many things have changed." Janel knew that there was not really any hope for her in this new world. She didn't know where she was, who she was, or what she should do to find her way back.

What this girl was feeling could not be put into words. Janel's head hurt, but she knew that she had to hold herself together before she did go mad. For being a supposed [i]smart
girl, Janel just realized that she could take her jacket, wring it out, and use it as a cover for her clothes. If she did that she wouldn't be getting as wet, also she wouldn't have to carry the weight of the jacket. That jacket was heave when it wasn't wet, but when it was it was a real burden on her shoulders. Once Janel took her jacket off, she looked down at her old sytle dress. "Don't even think about commenting on my wears."

Janel wasn't usually quick to judge, but she did know something about this boy. He isn't really like boys my age of my time. Thinking about it, she realized that they were stuck up, snotty, or off joining the army. Even though her time was boring, and horrible at the moment (at least for Janel), she didn't really want to stay in this world for too long. "World? Place? Where.." The girl mumbled jumping at another sound, it was thunder. The sound made the girl almost jump, it was so unexpected, she never really heard storms, she watched them most times. The weather was a strange thing, and nobody could understand it, or even predict it.

Snow, Janel had only seen snow once..She hated it, snow reminder her of her first horse. It was a white stallion, and it almost killed her because someone threw a snake at it. That is not a really good memory. Janel then thought of Felicia. Is she in the other world? No..it's just me, all by myself..I don't really wish to be by myself, but I don't think the situation would be helped with me riding around on a horse. Horses, they were nice creatures as long as they weren't spooked. Janel had a soft spot for them more then most other animals. She disliked dogs as they carried horrid diseases, and cats brought the fleas into your home.
