- "Are you two ready to leave?" Adderbite's gruff voice sounded from behind the brambles, making the two young she cats stifle a scream. They hadn't expected the giant brute to be so adept at stealth, but here he was, previously undetected.
"How are you quiet?" Cove asked, narrowing her eyes suspiciously. "I don't trust you." She whispered to him, a long frown making up her face. Panther stepped in front of her, respectfully bowing her head. "Yes, sir! We are both ready to go." She murmured, somewhat quietly. Her confidence had not yet been brought to where it should, however with time it would only grow. She gave Cove a small nudge in an attempt to get her to stop staring at the scar faced tom, whom Panther was already intimidated by. She didn't understand how Cove wasn't, but the large male didn't seem to care much for Coves glares. Something told him he would have to get used to that at some point. Something told cove that he was already used to it, given the sheer amount pf apprentices in the clan.
"Excellent, follow me then you two. It'll just be us three, if you don't mind that. The typical size of a patrol is three or four hunters, however I am here to assess your skill and see how much work you two will need. I will also view how well you two will be able to work with one another, seeing as you two are close it shouldn't be too hard, but at it's core the most important thing of a tribe is working together as a team. Otherwise nothing would ever get done."
The two apprentices nodded in understanding. Panther had the look of determination sparkling in her eye, she was ready to show him her skills. Cove, however, still liked displeased with the situation, and still preferred the lifestyle of a wanderer.
As they trotted through the wooded area, Panther took note of the almond brown trees that seemed to touch the sky. The wind howled through the trees, making them sway back and forth, creating a rhythmic lullaby that gave Panther some comfort. She could only hear the scurrying squirrels that resided in the branches above her, a little too out of reach for her, for now at least. She didn't want to lose the other two, either. It only took moments for her to catch the scent of something familiar to her: a mouse. She would spend hours challenging cove to a contest back when they resided in the ship. Cove gave her a glace that indicated that she, too, caught the scent.
Adderbite noticed the two, knowing the same competitive gaze from Brokenpaw and Crowpaw. "Well, what are you waiting for?" Adderbite asked. Without hesitation, Panther took off, leaving a shocked Cove in the dust. "Well that's uncharacteristic," Cove joked, looking to Adderbite. "Usually I'm the one eating dust."

Hours passed, the two successfully amassing their own small hoards of prey. "Was this it? Because we could do this at the docks." Cove murmured, flicking her tail at Panther. "You're just mad because I won." Panther purred.
"You two would make excellent warriors," Adderbite complimented, a low purr rumbling from deep within him. "I'm sure that, if you chose, you both would be welcomed into the clan. You have some time, still, before your decision must be made, although I hope to see you in the training hollow with one of my warriors. Well done." [ 583 words ]
