Cherrypaw sighed deeply. She stood up and padded near the edge of her clan. "I wonder when can I be a warrior," she said to herself. She was excided at the thought of this,and hoped to learn more. She batted the grass on the ground and laid down,grooming her sand-colored paws.

Soulstar called out to his apprentice, Cherrypaw. "Cherrypaw! Do you want to do battle moves in the training hollow?" Soulstar's gleaming tabby fur and his hazel eyes were handsome and powerful, and he had an air of importance. Soulstar had all 9 lives, and health radiated from him. Even if he was on his last life, the Clan wouldn't notice a chance unless he told them himself he had lost a life.

"Yes! Be right there!" Cherrypaw meowed back. She got onto her paws and ran to Soulstar. She skidded to a stop when she was right next to her leader. "I can't wait!" she mewed,trying to not get too excited. The young apprentice's green eyes shone with delight as she looked up to Soulstar's hazel ones.

Soulstar grinned, pleased that his apprentice was so eager to train and to learn. He guided her to the training hollow. "Now," he stared at Cherrypaw intently. "You are intelligent. You are agile. You are strong. You are a quick-thinker. But, someday, you will face someone who is smarter than you, quicker than you, stronger than you, and more clever than you. I will help you prepare for this day."

History: Thornclaw was Soulstar's good friend. He was the former deputy and was killed by a tree that fell on him during a storm. The tree had been struck by lightning and it splintered and fell while Thornclaw was returning to camp. The storm had been sudden, and Thornclaw had been out hunting and was quickly rushing back to camp.

Other: Thornclaw is the first of Soul Clan to be in Star Clan. Because there are no suitable cats to become deputy, the deputy ceremony was put off until a cat met all the requirements. Star Clan isn't angry at Soul Star and are simply patiently waiting for a new deputy to appear. Thornclaw will be the one to give the prophecy.

"More strong? Quicker?" Cherrypaw wondered out loud. She thought about what her mentor said and nodded. "Okay. I'm ready," Cherrypaw meowed eagerly after a short while. She sat down and waited for Soulstar to give her commands.
