Lets think carefully about the clues. We have baseball cap, surf board, books, crayons, snacks, some money, a list, school supplies and towels...

I think it might be a school trip to a nature hike. Surf Board and towels suggests beach viewing. Snacks and Ruler suggests School and Learning. Books and Crayons suggest Studying and Drawing about what the kids are seeing. Sweater suggests taking a trip up a mountain or cold cave. Baseball cap may mean activities or even sports. And money to cover buying things at a gift shop. List is to make sure you are not missing anything.

Should compare it.to last year's and last year it was a muddled mess that made no sense at all as I recall.

A lot of things about the dress-up are strange. They sorta contradict each other.

Wearing a sweater implies cold, but there's the surfboard which is usually a sunny sort of weather activity, not too great when it's cold.
The towels support the idea of surfing, but they're in a box, meaning they're packed away and not necessarily being used, which supports the idea of a garage sale (plus the word "junk"). Making the towels and the surf board maybe being whats sold.
But there's also crayons and snacks. The books could very well be for sale as well, and the list in the pet's mouth could be perhaps a list of what they're selling or prices, but the snacks seem out of place for a garage sale theme. You wouldn't sell food at a garage sale, and wouldn't take into account the transactions and sales with crayon.
I don't think it's a school field-trip sort of thing though because there aren't really any "school" like items. Like I would associate a pencil more with school than crayons.

It's just so contradictory xD There's nothing that clear about the hint. Aaaaghh guess we'll just have to wait until tomorrow

Avian looks like he's going snowboarding and hiking mountain trails...

those look like ski pants folded in the box, a cute squiddy handwarmer or toque,
and he's got some granola bars and chips for easy trail energy,
and that looks like a snowy turtledove to me...

not sure what the books and crayons are for-- maybe it's a long plane ride or train trip to reach his destination...

Now that you mention this, i totally see it all now! xD I was also thinking the sweater didnt make much sense at first with it being a "summer" event, but also started thinking. "hmm, we have no snowboard items so far, perhaps thats what the surfboard is representing in this one" I also agree with the books and crayons, like maybe something for coloring and doodling while youre on the trip.

I don't really think it will be something into beach/ocean theme bc we had both
I still hope for some safari. Also I don't have any problems with camping. c:

And guys, have you considered it's not summer on the entire planet right now? The dog is wearing a sweater, pretty good indicator that it's not a summer themed event.
