Blair Strong I Werewolf I Fighter I Tags; Scott, Emmelene
She had no idea on how to react.
If Adam thought she was going to follow Aurora into the basement, he'd have to think again.
There were exactly two people in the pack that she was afraid of; with one down and out for the count, there was nothing to stop Aurora - the other, and the worse of the two - from going too far and falling over the edge. Cowardly as it was, Blair would not be there when it happened.
This time, at least, she could tell herself she was making the right decision as she finally decided to pursue her honorary sister with a lethargic, lolloping run. Emery was out of her hands now, but she could at least try to ensure the Castellanos bloodline didn't end with him.
Her mind stopped ticking at that thought.
Since when had she become so cynical?
Perhaps around about the time the invincible Alphas had been found dead in the gutter. Perhaps before. She didn't know. All Blair knew was that it frightened her.
She was too tired to shift, so it was on two feet that she pounded through the dense woods, on the cooling trail of the red wolf that had broken from the house at such a pace. She'd never been trained in tracking - not as a child, certainly, for a misfit half-blood had no such need of those skills - as she frequently stated, so it took almost five minutes of the slow loping and the countless breaks before she noticed the pawprints beside those of Emmelene. Too small to be Adam. Her friend had had company.
Her suspicions were confirmed when the scent of the intruder reached her nose.
"HEY!"
She yelled with as much agressive as she could muster, eying the white wolf with irrational anger. The last intruder she'd come across had killed seven-year-old Blake. Probably Benji, too. What was to say this one was any different?
Emmy was out of sight now. Whether the white wolf was planning to pursue her or not, she wasn't going to let him walk off unchecked.
"HEY! YOU!"
A feral snarl that may or may not have reached the white wolf's ears. As out of breath as she was, she'd be surprised if any of it did.
"Who are you? State your business!"
Emmelene Castellanos I Werewolf I Hunter I Tags; Scott
She knew she couldn't just walk away knowing the loner was there. Pack protocol, or some crap. Emmelene growled again, more to cover her own panic than to actually convey a message, but she didn't need to.
It had stopped, and backed up. Showing every sign of submission.
She narrowed her eyes, but after a few painfully long heartbeats, she lowered her own tail. Suspicion, to her pack's despair, was not in her nature, whether she was somewhat hazed by pain or not.
A glance at her leg told her the bleeding was beginning to stop. Maybe she could run now, if things turned for the worse. She bit her lip and, hesitantly, took a half step forward, tilting her head almost imperceptibly. The little voice in her head knew it was stupid to just walk up to this invader , reminding her of her original purpose, but the louder side - the human side - had enough trust in the fence to approach just a little further. It wasn't like she could just walk away from the newcomer. At least, without ascertaining that the wolf was no threat.
It looked harmless enough, now she was closer. And it didn't smell dangerous. But maybe just looking wasn't enough. She put another paw forwards, setting her healing paw on the ground for stability as she hunted for the energy to shift.
The thought was cut off by gunshots, painfully loud in her enhanced ears and more than close enough to make her jump.
Pack protocol was not superior to her father's life.
She turned, shooting another glance at the wolf standing behind the razor wire over her shoulder as she began to run. Somehow already sure that wasn't the last she'd see of him. Whether he followed, or not, she didn't care.
She just needed to get the source of the gunshots.
Nothing else mattered.
