Ricky was tempted to lick his newly wrapped foot, it smelled so good with
the herbs in there. He recoiled from the thought when Flickerblossom
tightened some cobwebs around it. He had tasted those as a younger
colt and did not like it one bit. His eyes grew suspicious when the
mare questioned him about his adventures. "How do you know that
I haven't waited a few days, perhaps I have." He stole an anxious
glance toward Mountain Herd's territory. It was farther than it had
looked earlier. His ears drooped and his eyes grew solemn. He
hopped up and ran, favoring his sore hoof, before the healer could
reply, shouting back a warm "Thank you!" as he went.

Duskfire was definitely following him. Catching his eyes looking upwards in a
way that resembled greed but was not nearly as intense, Flintwing though
he may take them higher. Two other stallions we flying next to each-other
behind Duskfire. They were also very strong and respected members of
Mountain Herd. Three, yes three would be enough, he thought as he drew
upwards. As they passed some colts in the sweetgrass meadow, they gazed
up in what Flintwing only imagined was awe and respect. He thought he
recognised one as Duskfire's daughter, but he couldn't be sure with his
current height in the air. He began to slow and then grew still, giving
enough time for the stallions behind him to realize they were stopping
and form a small circle. They were right above a cloud, almost on top
of it, and Flintwing hoped that would hide them from view. He didn't
need the mares and other stallions needlessly worrying. He took a deep
breath. "I can sense something is wrong. My dreams last night was of the
strangest thing, and a brutal thing at that. All of the herds were warring
and many pegasus died. I am not sure if this is coming or not, but I say
we be prepared. Warriors must train harder and teach the mares to fight
as well. Colts and other small horses will need to learn how to hide well
and defend themselves against predators, for if this great war happens,
they cannot cower behind the mares who will be fighting." He paused to
let it soak in. What he was going to say next would surely shock them.
He was a strong horse and a fought very fiercely and well. "And if there
is a great war to come, we need to take other precautions... I may fight
with all the loyalty and strength in the world that I can muster, but I
am surely not invincible... and I want you three to listen closely. If I
should die in this great war, do not mourn until the war is won! And do
not falter, because you will be led by another strong horse. In my dream
I saw Duskfire leading the charge, and so it is he that I pick as my heir.
If anything should come of him before I am down, or before he can choose
an heir himself, one of you shall take charge." He looked at the horses
next to Duskfire, then glanced at them all. "Any objections?"
