the cats so far look more like highlander cats than anything, with the short tails and curled ears :0

Ok... I want me a black Highlander cat!!! They look like a mix of Scotty Folds, American Curl and Manx. <3

Scottish Fold isn’t really a breed, per se. Their ears are flopped over from a genetic mutation that makes the cartilage in their ears softer than normal. The same gene that softens cartilage, softens their bones. It’s a mutation, a deformity, and can cause them a lot of pain. Their joints don’t grow correctly. They usually end up with arthritis early on. The British Veterinary Association has been trying to ban breeding for years. I think that’s what iris is getting at. ^^[/list]

Ahh thank you. I am obviously not very cat savvy. (now if we were talking dogs that would be a different story ) Thanks for clearing that up, that does sound rather heartbreaking.

Erm... No. The Scottish Fold is a registered breeding of cat just like the Munchkin. First kitten that was born to a mother barn cat had a kitten with these strangely folded ears. After that, that is where the breeder comes into play and is greatly recognized.

Well that's sort of the problem with all "purebred" cats, dogs, and other domesticated species. While some were the product of long term breeding for specific skills, most were bred because someone went, "that looks interesting"and continued to breed it into the line, usually with tons of inbreeding. Practically all purebreeds suffer from some form of genetic defect due to the inbreeding the earlier generations went through.

On to the possibility of the kitten being a scottish fold. Scot folds don't typically have a stubby tail... other breeds that feature a strange ear are, The American curl, Highland cat (as previously stated), and Ukrainian Levkoy (though these are thin haired or hairless).

My bet is on the Highlander due to the coloration and tail length.

Although, it looks like the cat has its ears folded forwards, and the Highlander has backwards-curled ears. The ears also appear to be extremely folded, like a flop dog, but it may just be the angle.

Just found another funny eared breed... Pudelkatze, literally Poodle cat, how awesome is that!? Maybe the kitten will turn out to be this? Though they have slightly long tails too...If it was;t obvious, I don;t know a whole lot about cats
