Hello! I'm not sure if anybody still gets on here, but I'd like some help with a toad I own. I got her last May from a friend that won't tell me where they got her. She doesn't know how to swim, and had bad frostbite covering her back. She lives with me now in a 10 gallon (temporary) with her own personal pond, hiding house, and burrowing dirt. She has been hibernating (even though my room isn't cold), and her food supply died off. I'm getting more today, but is there any other foods I can give her? I currently give her tiny crickets. Treats or other foods would be great to know! Thank you!

If it is a true toad(Bufo), then it doesn't need a big water dish. I keep Southern Toads in a 10 gallon tank with 3-4 inches of substrate(Organic, pesticide free potting soil or Eco-Earth works great here) and some hides(I personally use small plastic plates, they burrow under them). I provide a water dish that is just big enough for the toad to sit in comfortably without stretching its legs to stay above the water(True Toads are NOT good swimmers and only go to water to breed/rehydrate). I have found that nightly misting is a good way to water them(spray the sides of the tank with water and they will lap it up like dewdrops). Foods include Crickets, mealworms, and, if it is indeed a wild toad, the beetles and such that flock to lights at night. Earthworms also make good snacks. Food should be no wider than the area between its eyes, give or take.

As for me, I currently have a trio of fire bellied toads(NOT true toads to those who don't know, they require a good amount of water) and a pacman frog.
