e love you feel from someone special? well, here at lone oak high school, a lot of people seem u

nable to find love. whether it be constantly searching for new people, or just not looking at all, '

everyone can tell valentine's day will be a flop. however, recently the school has come up with an

idea to make the upcoming dance more popular; assigning single people valentines.

as valentine's day nears, the dance committee has begun to notice more and more people aren't

in a relationship. for them, this means less people at the dance, which means less money for the

m and the school. so, instead of letting the dance run its sad course, one of the members came

up with the idea to assign people matches based on their own personality. whether or not they

work out or not will be decided by the people themselves.

basically, everyone starts out single. they can have a crush, but they'll have to end up going to t

he dance with the person who's assigned to them. the matches are assigned by the users pm'ing

me who they think their character(s) would be good with. the pairs will be chosen as fairly as p

ossible (but not everyone will get who they want). then, the couples will be announced when ev

eryone has pm'ed me three people they'd like their character to be with. (i know this is confusin

g and i sound rude but please trust me, i'm trying my best to explain c:)

xxxxxa hand shot up, slamming itself down on the alarm clock that was blaring it's owner, cliffe, awake. a soft sigh escaped his lips as rolled over, pushing himself up lazily. the school year was more than halfway over, and he still wasn't used to getting up at six in the morning. however, it wasn't just the idea of not sleeping in that was helping unsettle cliffe; helping his hesitance towards the day was the fact that about a month ago he'd signed up for some valentine's day matching personalities test and the pairs would be assigned today. usually, he'd stay away from this type of stuff, considering he was a strong believer of love. not that he'd ever been in love, because that's overrated. but here he was, letting the dance commitee pick his date for him.

not that he would've been able to choose someone other than who he'd be paired to, since he wasn't necessarily someone who could be perceived as 'on the market'. he hadn't been to a dance for probably around sixth grade, and he hadn't had a girlfriend since third grade. but he'd never had a boyfriend. his sexuality was just something he didn't share openly, and he wasn't planning to if he could continue to avoid it. rubbing his eyes, cliffe stood and walked to the bathroom connected to his bedroom. he quickly brushed his teeth, attempting to get ready quicker than he usually did so he could see who he'd been matched with earlier.

an indecisive groan rose in cliffe's throat as he walked to the kitchen, grabbing his keys and practically flying out the door. he did this all in such a short timeline that he'd forgotten to say goodbye, which was something his mom would probably harass him for later. he leapt into the car and drove to school faster than he most likely ever had, out of pure fear and excitement. he ran inside as if he was a minute late, when he was most likely the earliest one. shoes skidding on the floor, the seventeen year old only stopped running when his eyes made contact with the board. scanning the object for a second, he focused on the list he was looking for. his gaze scanned the sheet, before settling on the name listed next to his. it read the name eden.

It was certainly a day that brought more excitement to him than any other; for a school day, that is. Once the dance committee had announced that they would be pairing students together rather than letting them choose on their own, everyone for the most part was a little more on edge than usual. Since it was a feature that was introduced for the first time, it was substantially intriguing- to Eden, at least. He was heavily curious on who he'd be put with, especially since he automatically inferred that he would be paired to someone of the opposite gender. The idea wasn't too satisfying since he was openly only interested in having romantic relationships with other men, but he also knew that whoever he was assigned to didn't necessarily even have to be his love interest; going out with someone just to have fun was fine with him as well.

Not arriving too late to school, the first thing he'd do was approach the board, eyes scanning it until he'd find the list which contained the pairings. A little taken aback when he'd realize it read 'Cliffe' adjacently to his own name, he would push a hand steadily through his blond hair, gaze averting elsewhere whilst he'd ponder. He was well aware of who the junior was; the school wasn't that large, which gave him the opportunity to recognize people better- by their names and faces more so. Attention landing on the shorter male who also appeared to be having a glance at the list, he'd furrow his brows, still astonished that he had actually been put together with another male. Being the unreserved person that he was, he would seek to approach him, studying him carefully as he did so. He didn't know Cliffe's sexuality; all he knew were the basics, which weren't as much of an importance as opposed to digging deeper. "Hey." Eden would start off with a brisk greeting, lips tugging back into a lightly charismatic smirk. "Cliffe, right?" He'd ask for confirmation despite being almost completely certain that he was talking to the right junior. Continuing to scan him, he would bite his lower lip, cocking a brow in a vaguely humorous manner. "I know we've never met before. The name's Eden."

For all he cared, it was just a normal day of getting up, getting ready, and going to school. He didn't entirely favor the idea to wake up early five times per week and go to it, though he didn't mind it much either. He was doing efficiently, which was relatively normal for him; this boosted his confidence in going despite it being mandatory. His parents were proud of him, too; they encouraged him to keep doing well, which was another reasoning behind his faith in a successful future. Arriving at a normal time to the highly familiar high school, Malcolm would simply walk inside, his only focus being getting to class. Slightly baffled however when he would notice a few people dotted around one of the boards placed in the hallway, he would shake his head, emitting a disappointed sigh to himself. He'd forgotten that there had been pairings formulated by the dance committee for the Valentine's Day dance.

Approaching the area, he'd run his glimpse along the list that acquired everyone's names and who was matched with who, narrowing his eyes once he'd find his own name. Noticing the one beside his, which wrote 'Marie', he'd think briefly and attempt to recollect any familiar aspects of her that connected in his mind to the female's name. Faintly remembering what she looked like, the junior would take a few steps away from the board, moving his glance along the various different people who were also involved with finding out who they were paired with. Not managing to notice any fitting the face he recognized, he would frown, unsure about the whole idea. He felt that the dance committee had done the whole thing in the first place just to involve everyone with the dance itself; he usually didn't attend any 'fun' school activities of the sort, though now he felted inclined since he had actually been put with someone. Or perhaps it was made in order to get people to know each other better who likely didn't know one another already. It was probably both, though.

xxxxxto say that cliffe was shy would be innacurate. admittedly, he had very few friends over the years. well, very few close friends. he'd preferred to always be by himself, rather than joining in with one of the many groups of the school. he did, and still does, however, like occasionally talking to people, but on his own accord. and obviously, signing up to be paired with someone wouldn't mean talking on his own accord. however, he was happy to have a chance and a reason to talk to someone. but when he had signed up, he assumed that they would've paired him with a female. in fact, if they had, no matter who it was and how regrettable their interactions could've been, he'd probably be less embarrassed than he was in the moment.

giving the stranger a nervous look, the seventeen year old's eyes focused on his outside appearance. he was tall, and also undoubtedly good looking. nevertheless, he felt an uncertainty to the whole situation, as if the people who had came up with the idea were tricking them all. he hadn't told them anything really in detail, except for what they asked. they'd never asked about anything personal like that, and he was sure of it. a thousand thoughts crowded his mind, which caused him to close his eyes for a moment in attempt to drown them out. yet, the most prominent one was how will mom and dad react?

blinking his eyes open, the male's gaze descended to the floor. as much as he'd like to enjoy the situation, he really wasn't prepared for it. he couldn't recall seeing him before, but the name sounded familiar. probably because eden wasn't the most prevalent name. cliffe had assumed it was feminine, but evidently he was wrong. "oh, uh...hey," the "i'm not shy" thing could be taken back now. but, actually thinking about it, what he really felt was regret. regret for signing up for it, and possibly outing himself. curiously, his eyes traveled back up to eden's expression. he suppressed a frown, even though a small part of him was clinging onto the moment in happiness. "yea, cliffe...nice name." he murmured.

Once the other being had acknowledged his presence, he would briefly follow his gaze to the floor, observing his overall demeanor in response to his introduction. He seemed rather withdrawn, which explained why he didn't know him too well. He'd definitely seen him around, but that's about it; interacting with those who may not be interested was something he tried to avoid, though he felt obliged to doing so now that they had been assigned together. The reluctance that came from the other male wasn't all too surprising, nor did it really affect Eden in any way unless he were making the junior uncomfortable. Studying his features steadily when Cliffe would briskly meet his eyes, he'd quiver a small half smile, wanting to come across as friendly if anything.

An aspect of the younger individual that was fairly striking was his accent; he could lucidly tell that he was also Norwegian, which was something that he had never noticed about the quiet boy. He'd never heard him speak, after all, and never really took the time to try and get him to do so. Smirking at the moderately awkward compliment, he would eventually nod, a brief grin crossing his expression. "Cliffe is.. a nice name, too." Eden would return the kind gesture, head tilting slightly. One part of having to move to the United States was learning English fluently; it wasn't too difficult, although English being somewhat complex to learn he had still managed over the course of quite a few years. Sure there could be complications, but he was well aware that it was normal. "How long have you been in America?" He'd ask, seeking to keep the conversation moving since he was by this point wholly intrigued by the younger male.

xxxxxfrom what the junior could tell, the taller male was trying to be nice about the whole thing. as much as cliffe would've liked to return the friendliness, mentally he was still taking it in. the worrying about his parents most likely wouldn't matter in the future, considering they weren't relatively religious or anything of the sort. he'd never really thought about it, anyway. it's not like he was planning how he would come out, but now he'd probably be forced to before he could've prepared.

either way, eden's calm disposition was helping relax the younger male, whether or not it be an in the moment thing. his mind wandered to a question that appeared in his head. why had he even joined the 'experiment'? obviously, he wasn't a shy person. he'd walked up to cliffe indifferently, and despite his obvious uncomfort with the incident he still didn't seem to mind his hesitance towards it all. then again, they would have to go to the dance one way or another. the junior's thoughts drifted to the idea that he could've just been doing it to make the whole thing go by faster.

a hand rose to his hair, running it through the dirty-blond mess. quite promptly, cliffe offered half a smile in attempt to return the friendliness that eden was showing him. "thanks," he mumbled, a slight tinge of nervousness still lining the tone of his voice. with the question brought up, the male realized that the senior was also of norwegian descent, something that most people didn't notice or didn't understand. "pretty much my whole life," he replied, his eyes meeting eden's. "how about you?"
