Sorry, double post but the thought just occurred to me, so in Valhalla do the mares birth twice a year? Because if it's possible in valhalla's time to get covered in the start of spring then foal near the end, with the seasons of Valhalla taken into account that should be about 6 months, right?

Yes, they possibly can. Mares fall into heat double the times they would outside of Valhalla. The land itself is not based off any particular area in the world and I see it more as a space where time has no rhythm - a limbo if you will. While the general idea of the seasons is that Summer is skipped, Autumn is short and Winter and Spring are the dominant seasons, this is not always reliable. In some cases Spring might appear short, Winter long and Autumn longer. The conception of mares also becomes shorter because of this. A short winter has just ended so there will likely be a long Spring which allows for mares to both be covered and birth in the same season which gives short Autumn for the foal to grow then a long Winter for them to survive. As I said, Valhalla time is not systematic and as a result, neither are the cycles of horses. If the seasons last long, time itself stretches and horses can either have a longer or shorter longevity because of it.
Wow that was a mouthful.

As for Ingrid, Bjorn would like to approach her and see if they vibe because her honest nature attracts him. He doesn't have a million fillies' securities to manage coughPhantomcough. Though Oydis would likely be annoyed if Bjorn put in extra effort with Ingrid should she play hard to get. XD

I'm not sure which herd Ingrid would be joining yet, but we shall cross that bridge when we come to it c:

For now, maybe I could have her thinking of following Heidi since sisters must stick together, but she might have other considerations after personally meeting both kings ^^

Hmm, I was thinking at what age would a mare be considered fit to bear children? And is there an aging system here in Valhalla?

@ches: Ooh, I see I see. Dang, that means I might run out of foals for Thera sooner than I thought... Time to go search for more pictures~

HAHA yeah Phantom is quite sensitive to the needs of his herd and who will and will not disrupt the peace, mainly because of how nitpicky he is about his own peace and quiet XD

@lime: That was actually what I was going to make Phantom do, actually. I was thinking of him courting Heidi and at the same time extending the opportunity to the other two maidens to join him for a period and then decide if they want to stay, because he wouldn't want to grant someone immediate access to his herd either when he barely knows them(at this point he has only spoken to Heidi), but I can see him liking Ingrid and Irmela because of their nature, though if they want to leave he won't stop them. -This makes me realise that the three Kings of Valhalla are actually all soft LOL.

I think a mare would be able to bear at 2, 1 she would be physically capable but I think it would be regarded as something to shame a stallion for -I mean at 1 the maiden is basically still a foal.

What do you mean by aging system?

Phantom stop stealing all Bjorn's possible maidens.

The aging system is like Valhalla - subject to change. It is not unusual for a horse's 'prime' years to extend longer than normal, so a stallion may still be capable of maintaining a territory at 18, it just depends on his life thus far and the conditions of Valhalla at the time. If the seasons extend so do heat cycles and aging. It's more or less the same as normal but with room for variation.

@Cheshire: In Vallaha, how long does it take to have a foal, both in irl and roleplay times?

Irl it doesn't matter. The pace of the role play usually dictates time in real life. So if we cleared through three pages in one day then that would count as a lot of time within the role play but not outside of it. In Valhalla, you're looking at 7 months gestation. A month or two before that and it's probably still a healthy birth, any earlier and you'd be worried. Up to about 12 months is how long a mare can hold off on having a foal.

*Phantom snorts* nu.

Nah, but with Bjorn's words he'd probably step down. He's not a wholly unreasonable stallion, just kind of worried about the coming winter HAHA.

If this rp gets far enough (maybe 4-5 more years down?), I am thinking of Phantom choosing a successor. Like it is entirely probable that he would rather step down to someone that shows promise rather than deteriorate to the point where any cruel bachelor could take him out. He cares too much about his herd for something like that to happen. Then, I'd let him run in Idavoll, bossing around the other band earls-and whipping them whippersnappers back into shape- till at the end, he dies.

I was also possibly thinking of him leaving with maybe 1 or 2 mares, depending on who.

I can see Bjorn joining him and them finally declaring a kind of truce HAHA. My old man will finally have some peace. Right now though, he has to put his old bones to work. *cackles*

Hmm I had a question, how long is the average lifespan of a horse in Valhalla? Like I remember someone saying they live longer than a horse in real life, but I never got the numbers.

Edit: Oof that was a stupid question and cheshire just said that it's like real life horse aging just some variation. I didn't read everything my bad

Well, finally my post is up. Be warned that Vira's POV is a bit graphic than other posts and has a couple of mild obscene references in there. Simply tell me if it is unacceptable on this thread, and I'll change the form.

@Cheshire: Sorry to be pushy, but are Bullet and Lyn Skyen accepted?
@ BlueChai+Omnipotence: Hey, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to maybe have Astrid help Haukr fight of Mjolnir, so it's more realistic with Haukr winning and the pair could bond over the fight.

@ Lyn: Get ready for some family drama...
