Kalon tryout (dnp please)

name; Thorin
gender; male
personality;
Thorin is introverted but not shy, and willing to be friendly if you have a bit of time and patience. Thorin is very mellow and easy-going, he does not get mad easily. He doesn't like confrontation and tries to avoid it as best he can. He isn't afraid to admit he's wrong but will often shy away from saying he's right.
If you ask how he's doing, Thorin will usually reply that he's "just fine." He doesn't really get happy for no reason, but that doesn't mean he's sad all the time. He's just neutral.
Thorin struggles with making friends, but despite this, he's very understanding and will listen to your problems all day. He's not that good at giving advice but he'll do it anyway.
Thorin is a good hearted guy who has others' best interest in mind. He can't be a 'bad boy' or do anything even slightly mischievous, even to the point of taking extra napkins at a fast food place. He always has massive guilt even for the tiniest things. It will eat away at him all day until he does a good deed to "even it out". It's something that he's been working on, he's trying to improve himself to make him and the kalons around him more happy, and become the kalon he wants to be.

Thorin is very kind and knows his manners, and can often seem a bit strange in his manners, such as pulling out someone's chair for them. It's just a weird thing to do now, and can come off as flirting if he's just being a gentlemen. Thorin doesn't know if he should keep this trait or try to improve it, because on one side he's just being nice while on the other he's actually making others uncomfortable.

Thorin is a huge star nerd, it's his passion and, well, obsession. His all time favourite constellation is one of the more well known collections of stars, Ursa Major! Thorin was captivated by it's legend the moment it touched his ears and is the reason he loves the bear in the sky. His dad was the one to lull him to sleep one night with the story. It was the introduction to a whole new world he'd never really paid attention to, and sparked his passion for the night sky. Now as a grown kalon, whenever Thorin looks up and sees the sparkling constellation watching over him, he remembers his dad, and how his eyes sparkled like the stars. He can still hear his dad's smooth voice reciting his knowledge of the legend. And as he grows older, and his childhood memories start to slip away into oblivion, one holds true. The memory of the first time he heard the myth, the first time his dad told him about it.
Ursa Major is comfort. It is his childhood. It is a perfect reminder of his passion for the stars and how it began. Even though his dad was only mildly interested in constellations, he supported Thorin in his passion and bought him his very own telescope, celestial maps, and read him a new legend every night. Bedtime wasn't so terrible once he found Roman mythology.
Luckily Ursa Major is not an easily lost photo, not a worn down teddy bear. It is constant, it is strong. It's there for him every single night without fail, and even if the clouds have drowned it out he knows it's there, looking down at him. And it will be there tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after. It will never leave him like his childhood best friend. Never split away from him like his parents were forced to. No, Ursa Major is stable, a shoulder to lean on, someone to cry to, something that will always be there for him.
It is like the good thoughts in his head. Some days, positive feelings, like the constellation, are pushed away by cloudy, bad thoughts. But the good thoughts are still there. And they will be there for him tomorrow, too, and the day after, and the day after, as long as it takes for him to push away the clouds and see the clear, crisp emotions that make him feel comfortable with himself.

favourite memory;
Young Thorin never liked bedtime. It meant he had to stop playing and lay in his bed in the dark, how boring! It was a battle to convince him to climb into the covers. But tonight it would be different. His dad entered the room and pushed the window drapes aside to show the kits what lay behind it: a vast expanse of glittering orbs far, far off in the distance. Thorin sat up in bed to gaze at them, his imagination beginning to create shapes. His dad sat next to him and pointed, "You see that group of stars? The one that looks like spoon?"
Thorin looked at him confused, he didn't see it as a spoon at all. His dad grabbed a window marker, crouched to Thorin's level, and from that point of view connected the stars with lines on the window, creating a spoon. Thorin squealed with joy when he was able to see it.
"That's the Big Dipper. A spoon!"
"A spoon? That's kinda... boring." Thorin said and turned away in bed.
His dad chuckled, "It's an asterism, not a constellation. It's only a section that makes up part of the constellation of Ursa Major."
"Constellation" Thorin repeated, sounding out the word like his kindergarten schoolteacher taught him.
"Ursa Major," continued his dad, "is a bear. A bit more interesting than a spoon, no?"
Thorin gave a weary look, then burst out in a grin and nodded his head until he was dizzy.
"There's a Roman story to it, you know." His dad ruffled his son's mane. "It goes like this... A young woman named Callisto was hunting in the forest and lay down for a moment to rest. Jupiter, the king of gods, saw her and was overpowered by her beauty. Jupiter's wife, Juno, became very jealous of Callisto and later discovered she had a son and she assumed Jupiter must be the father. As punishment, Juno turned Callisto into a bear so she wouldn't be beautiful anymore.
Callisto's son, Arcas, grew up on his own and became a skilled hunter. One day he was hunting in the forest. Callisto saw him and was so excited that she forgot she was a bear and rushed up to him. In fear, Arcas tried to shoot her with an arrow, but Jupiter saw this and stopped the arrow from hitting her. Then, to save Callisto and her son from any more harm from Juno, he changed Arcas into a bear as well. He grabbed them both by their tails and threw them into the heavens to live peacefully among the stars. The strength of the throw stretched their short stubby tails into long ones. Callisto the bear became known as Ursa Major, and her son Arcas was Ursa Minor.
Jupiter's plan had not entirely saved them from Juno's wrath. She became even more mad at Jupiter and punished Callisto and Arcas even harder, by going to the sea gods and forbidding them to let the bears walk through their waters. This created a long and endless journey for the mother and son who journey forever around the pole star."
Thorin was laying quietly in bed, listening to the story, growing more and more drowsy as sleep was beginning to pull him down.
"The pole star in the story is actually very important." His dad said after he finished the legend. "It is nearly aligned with earth's axis of rotation, and it's often used for navigation."
Thorin didn't understand some of the big words his dad was using, but that didn't matter. He had enjoyed the story and now, as weighed down by sleep as he was, drifted into his slumber.

the Big Dipper;
Part of Thorin's favourite constellation, Ursa Major...
A hunter is chasing an elk, and the pursuit raises into the sky. The elk his still alive when suddenly it is transformed into an asterism, the Big Dipper.

strengths; Thorin is proud of his knowledge of stars. He'll talk on and on about them if you let him!
Also, his understanding and compassion for others. He's pretty sensitive, and a good friend to talk to.
Thorin is also athletic and has even won an award. Though it was 8th place, he still has it pinned up in his room next to his mirror.

flaws; Thorin struggles with himself and has insecurities about his image. Like many people, he cannot see his own beauty and is self conscious about grooming his fur, his shaky voice, and his taste in activities. He tends to stray away from crowds and can't connect with a lot of kalons. He doesn't share the same interests as many others, which proved to be a big problem in school with making friends. He was mostly on his own through his education.
Thorin also feels guilty when he doesn't need to, like when he accidentally bumps into someone or takes the last slice of pizza in the fridge.
Thorin is very messy and unorganized. He's constantly losing things. If Ursa Major wasn't in the sky, he'd lose it under a pile of clothes too!
