Chapter 8: Land of Sand and Lava
“Thank you so much for saving my Daughter, how can I ever repay you? The old viscet said, happily holding his Daughter.
“No need to repay us, it was our duty to help,” Kie said, smiling softly at them.
“Wish there was more people like you,” the man said before he and his Daughter left to go home.
Kie and Alekus looked at each other and then went to the inn to rest before their quest.
The next morning they got up and began their journey. Leaving the city the two began to head for the desert and the Volcanoes that waited for them.
“Do we have enough water? I don't want to get dehydrated out there,” Kie said, looking at Alekus.
“12 flasks each, that should be enough.” Alekus replied, glancing at him and continued walking.
As they walked the grassy plains began to turn into sand, and the trees began to thin out until there was nothing but sand and the blistering sun.
“Ugh! I hate sand!!” Alekus complained as he and Kie walked.
“I do too, but I’m not yelling about it,” Kie countered.
“Sorry, my friends had been kept hostage in a desert, I hate being away from nature, and being here just reminds me of a very rough time in my life,” Alekus confessed, sighing.
“Do you want to talk about it? You don't have to, but it seems to be bothering you,” Kie said.
Alekus sighed softly and nodded. “Then let me start from the beginning.”
“I was born into a Noble family, my father was a head knight, my mother was a Princess. While my mother died when I was very young.” He began, drooping his ears.
“One of my uncles was the Sulton, eh, another name for King in that area. Since he had no male heir, being his nephew, I was in line for the throne.” He explained as he told his story.
“But I didn't want to stay in this kingdom, they were cruel and vile. Even my father was a horrible Viscet. I ran away, I ran as far away as I could. I found my way to Camelot, the rival kingdom from where I came from. Anyway, I hide who I was and I made some close friends,” Alek added as they walked.
“Years down the line, my father found me, and he tried to take me back, but the King of Camelot at the time, protected me as I was a loyal Citizen of his kingdom, as well as the Prince’s best friend,” a soft smile came across Alek’s face.
“Anyway. After he left, me and Prince Mert decided to go hunting, but he made a decision to bring along his fiance and her handmade. About half way into our trip, my father and an army of bandits jumped and captured us, he hoped that by holding my friends hostage he could turn me back to his side, he even tried to marry me off to the same female that my friend was going to marry. But in the end we all escaped… few of us parted ways but the rest we return to Camelot.. Mert was crowned king after his father died..” Alek sighed and shook his head.
“You don't have to continue if you don't want to,” Kie said.
“Thanks Kie,” Alek smiled.
As night fell they set up camp and got some rest, huddling together to stay warm in the freezing desert night. As morning came they both woke and ate some dried meat and fruit, as well as drinking some water. Packing up there camp they continued to make they way threw the desert.
“ How far away is this place?” Kie asked as he sipped on some water
“ I’m not sure… but I’m sure we are getting closer” Alek said
As they walked the sight of smoke began to rise in the air, and it seemed to be getting even hotter then it had been before.
“ Well it’s seems we're almost there” Alek said looking at Kie “ Are you ready?” He asked
“Yes… I'm Ready” Kie replied.
With that the two headed deeper into the lands that turned to more rocky ground as they walked, and soon a land of stone and lava stood before them.
“Yikes, I've never seen so much Lava in my life!” Kie said in a low voice
“ I have “ Alek replied as he motions for Kie to follow.
