Cara took a deep breath and sat on Alessa's lap. "My father, my mother and my sister were taken away when I was 10. I haven't seen them since. I don't know why they kept me here but I had to live with a few instructors." She said quietly as tears continued to run down her face.

It's a fixer-upper of a planet but we could make it work.

Cara nodded and leaned back into her. "I'd love to hear about your family. I'll tell you more about my family soon." She kissed her cheek and yawned quietly before leaning her head on her shoulder, breathing against her neck.

Alessa gave her a light kiss, then rested her head lightly against Cara's. "Ever since I was young I wanted to impress my family. I never wanted to disappoint them, and I made every decision based on my parents. As I got older, my parents stopped treating me like a child and told me their opinions about me. They straight-up told me that I was a disappointment, useless, and unwanted. They never told me that they loved me once, even when I was younger. Still, everything they said and did only made me try harder to please them. I never did. Later on, I realized that I didn't need their approval and that I didn't need that kind of negatively in my life. I choice Daunt-less over Erudite, as my aptitude test told me to. My family told me that I was dead to them, that they would never recognize me as their daughter anymore. Surprisingly, that freed me and I don't regret my decision, since I got to leave them for life, and I met you," she said, smiling a bit at Cara.
