Prologue:
Viscape
The Legend of Kie

Everything was a moving blur of growls, clashes of claws and steel rang loudly threw the air.

A young brown Viscet was frantically trying to drag a bleeding black and silver Viscet off the battlefield. The pain that span his back was immense and unbearable, but he swallowed trying to ignore it as he continued on.

“Kie… Go… there is nothing more… You can do here,” the dying voice of his brother choked out.

“NO! Zander I won’t leave you!” Kie cried out, attempting to drag his dying brother off the battlefield.

“Kie… you.. you are destined to be a great warrior, not… not to die here like this.. Go, Save yourself, Save our home…” With one more shaky breath. Zander let out his last exhale and passed into the arms of the Spirit world.

“ZANDER!!!!” Kie cried out, terrified of being left alone in the world.

He looked around, his home was ablaze along with half the town, as bodies lay scattered on the rocky road.

Drooping his ears, the injured Viscet turned and ran away. He ran from the battle, and he didn't stop running until his wounds made him stop and he collapsed.

~Is this my fate? To die here, cold and alone?” He thought as he closed his eyes, the treat of tears burning his eyes. ~Why did you have to die Zander?~ he thought laying there to weak to move

A drop of rain landed on the top of Kie’s nose, causing him to open his eyes, he slowly moved his arms and tried to push himself up off the ground. But he couldn't move his hind legs, and his head hurt like someone had used it as a drum. His back and hind legs were numb, he couldn't even feel his tail.

Managing to drag himself a few inches before he collapsed again, panting, too weak from blood loss to keep going. Laying belly down on the damp ground, the rain began to fall heavily and icy cold; feeling like splinters to his injured body.

“Great Sprites… If you have it in your heart.. I need your help…” He prayed. Waiting for what felt like an eternity.

A soft warmth began to wash over him and eased his pain.

“We have heard your Prayer great one, and we are here to help you,” a symphony of voices spoke, the sound alone was like the most beautiful music that anyone could even possibly comprehend, with a power behind it that Kie felt deep within his bones. He couldn't see them except for a blinding golden light that wrapped itself around him and lifted him up off the ground.

He looked down at the world he floated over.

“You have been chosen Kie, to be this worlds Protector. As such we grant you these powers,” one spirit spoke before another approached him.

“First… We grant you the power of Wisdom,” the spirit said, placing their hand against his head. “With it you shall have the knowledge of what needs to be done.”

A hot pain shot threw his body as the spirit faded into a golden myst.

Another approached but this one set their hand upon his chest.

“The second power we grant you is immortality, with this you can never die from your wounds. You will forever be able to protect the lands,” and like the first, the same pain shot through him and the spirit also vanished..

The last spirit to approach made Kie’s jaw drop.

“Zander!” he cried in shock.

“Yes, Kie, it is..” Zander said, looking Kie up and down before he stepped forward and embraced him. “And with this final gift, I, Zander, give you great strength. ” His brother said, but this time instead of heat, horrible pain shot threw his entire body. “We also grant you these antlers, to mark you as a god among mortals.”

Chapter 1
Part 1: Welcome to Viscape

Kie yawned as he fixed his headphones and looked at the clock. It was Seven O three, three minutes late to meeting his friends online.

"Alright guys, the great and powerful Kie is here and ready for action!" He exclaimed in excitement to his friends.

"You’re late, and you are still going on about winning the new game trailer contest aren't you?" one of them laughed in response.

Kie Huffed "Sorry, and, well I did work my butt off on it, I still can't believe I won!" Kie responded with a soft laugh.

Out of every game he had played, Viscape was a high fantasy MMO set in a world known as Ajorn, many small kingdoms spotted the lands but Eskar was the capital and home to their most difficult quest in the game, only a handful of players had been able to beat it. Or so it was rumored.

Kie had grown to love the game over the past 3 months. Due to its features and wide lands to explore, and the challenges that every quest or raid held.

“ Hey Kie, did you get the VR Helmet yet? This game is so much more fun in VR,” Mixer, their guild leader asked him.

“No Mixer I haven't. But that aside… what shall we do tonight?”

"Hmm... how about we all make a new character and see who can beat the game the fastest?" Echo, the co owner of the guild and Kie's best friend, replied.

Before Kie replied he saw a slight flash of light outside. "Sure that sounds good, but I can't stay too long.. storm's coming and I'm still tired from our raid last night," he said with another yawn. "But I have been wanting to make another character... one that looks like me... always wondered what I’d look like with massive antlers," he said as he logged out of his currant character and began making another. He worked hard to try and recreate himself in the advanced character maker the game provided, entering the game after he was finished.

Kie yawned as he got back to the game, his eyes were growing heavy and he couldn't stay awake much longer.

Eventually he failed and fell asleep, his head hitting the keyboard, making his avatar walk into a wall.. And continue walking.

Outside the storm began getting worse. For a while Kie wasn't fazed, until there was an extremely loud crash of thunder.

Kie sat up, startled, his fur stood on end due to the electricity in the air, as well as being scared by the sound. ~Yikes, better unplug my computer before it gets fried,~ he thought, reaching to the back of his computer to unplug it, but as he touched the plug there was a bright flash of light and he hit the ground.

When he began to regain consciousness, he realized something was off. Instead of the hardwood flooring in his room, he was laying in grass. Kie groaned and tried to lift his head, it felt heavier than normal. ~Ugh my head, what in the world happened?~ He thought, reaching his hand up to see if something was on his head, and what he felt caused his fur to stand on end.

~ANTLERS?!~ He thought, shocked, opening his eyes and shifting his head from side to side. Slowly he moved his back legs up and then planted his front paws on the ground, trying to push himself up… Only to fall back down, sending pollen flying into the air. He sighed as he lay there for a few moments before a glowing blue orb begin floating over his nose.

“Oh my, you're in quite the pickle,” the orb said.

~Oh gods no, not him, anyone but him!~ Kie thought as he clamped his paw over his nose. ~Ok…I’m in the game, I have Antlers… and now “he’s” here… can this get ANY WORSE!~ he groaned in annoyance.

As he lay there it all hit him at once. ~Wait.. I’M IN THE GAME?! How? Am I dead?~

He began to panic but his inability to get up made him panic even more. He lashed his tail back and forth as he tried to get up. But, he was having a very difficult time moving his head with the heavy antlers.

“Do you not know how to speak? Or are you just...” The orb persisted, but Kie interrupted.

“I know how to speak you insufferable annoying ball!” Kie snapped angrily, causing the orb to float away from him slightly.

“I’ll have you know, I’m a Kasu Spirit not a ball!” It huffed, “and I have a name you know, It’s Jazza.” They replied

Kie huffed, and again tried to get up, but he still had trouble lifting his head. So he did the only thing he could, he used his hind legs to push himself along the ground.

~How's anyone supposed to lift their head with anything this heavy on it?~ He thought with annoyance.

The orb mumbled something before flying over and latched onto his antlers, lifting his head up off the ground. “Whoa, hey easy that hurts!” Kie screeched in protest.

The Orb helped him balance before letting him go. “There, now you don't have to embarrass me by looking pitiful,” it said floating over his nose again.

“Thanks Jazza…” Kie mumbled, rolling his green eyes.

The Kasu Spirit was his least favorite part of Viscape, but other than that he loved the game. With a sigh he looked at Jazza.

“Ok Jazza, show me the map please?” he asked, not sure where he was. Jazza obliged, a holographic map appearing in the air before Kie. ~Hmm, looks like I’m just outside of the starter town. Best go there and get some gear…. If I want to survive, that is,~ he thought as he tapped the map edge, hoping it would close but nothing happened. He sighed, rolling his eyes. ~I wonder,~ he thought, looking towards Jazza. “Hey Jazza, can you open my menu for me and set the game to VR please?” He questioned, a little embarrassed to ask.

Jazza laughed, “Forgot to set it before putting on the helmet, didn't you?” He asked, doing what Kie had asked.

Kie let out a nervous laugh, not sure how to answer that. How can someone explain that they’re trapped inside a videogame, to something made for the game.

Everything seemed to flicker for a moment before going back to normal. A small tutorial window popped up telling him how to access his toolbars and such. Opening his Inventory, he found the starter sword and tapped on the screen, the sword materializing into his hand.

~Ok that’s pretty cool,~ he thought. But knowing the rusty old sword wouldn't get him far, he glanced at his gold count. Zero… ~fudge,~… Oh well, time to hunt I guess.~ He thought with a sigh before he headed off to make some coins. While he didn't know much about fighting, he would soon figure it out or he'd have to go hungry and end up sleeping outside that night without anything to buy a room or food with.

Chapter 2: Survival

Kie spent the next few hours fighting wild pigs, almost dying by a mob of rabbits, and having his sword break on him resulting in having to give up the hunt and make his way to the starter Town.

Once to the town, he sold skins and meat from the pigs to a food vendor. Then the hide to the blacksmith. With what little he had gave him 25 gold. He then bought 3 rusty swords from the blacksmith for 5 gold each and headed back out, repeating the process of hunting until his swords broke, selling and buying another three swords. He did this until he had enough for a room at the Inn. It was a crappy room but it was enough for him to rest. Putting his sword back into his inventory he lay down on the bed and sighed ~I hope this is just a dream,~ he thought as he closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep, but his mind kept wandering off, he kept thinking about how he would get home, had anyone even noticed he was gone?

“Hey, wake up! “ Jazza ordered zapping Kie on the nose to wake him up letting out a yelp Kie fell off the side of the bed and landed awkwardly with his tail becoming tangled in his antlers, while Jazza laughed at him. Kie grumbled and reached up pulling his tail free.

“Don’t scare me like that Jazza…” He huffed, looked around. ~Guess it wasn't a dream.~ He thought sadly, taking hold of the side of the bed and pulling himself up. “Ok, so…I can go to the woods and find stuff there to sell,” he said to himself and headed off.

Kie walked along the dirt road and paused outside the Summersile Forest.

“I've always hated this forest… Oh well,” he shrugged and walked into the woods. The fact that most of the animals in the woods were deer and elk, Kie decided to gather plants and herbs to sell.

By the time the sun had set, Kie’s inventory was full of flowers, mushrooms and bark from trees. Stretching he headed back to town, he was going to sell the herbs but the herbalist was closed for the night. Kie headed back to the Inn but this time instead of getting a room Kie spent his coin on some food. ~Please let me eat this, I’m hungry,~ he thought with a whine as he sat down at a table.

Hesitantly he picked up the cooked chicken and sniffed it. “Oh, wow. It smells amazing!” He mused before taking a bite, it was the best thing he had ever eaten in his entire life. ~oh my goodness, this is the best chicken ever!~ it was sweet, but salty at the same time. He continued eating until there was nothing left but bones. Putting the bones in his pack he got up, figuring he could grind them into dust later or make weapons from them. Maybe there was a way to turn them into arrowheads, or a dagger.

He would waste time by reading a book he found in the inn’s library,. Once daylight came he headed out and sold the herbs from his trip to the woods. He then headed to the blacksmith and bought himself a simple bow and arrows.

From there he continued to grind, getting coins and alternating from rest and food. It took him a while to finally gain enough coins to buy a good sword and armor.

Looking at himself in a Mirror he was shocked to see himself now. Where once was a scrawny Viscet who barely did anything but game, now stood a muscular ‘Cet.

He reached over picking up the green cape and pulled it over his shoulders to complete his look. ~Now I really am Kie the Great… just not powerful, yet.~ the Viscet thought as he stepped out of the room in the Inn. It was time for him to move on, he wasn't getting anywhere or finding a way to return home by staying in the small town.

Chapter 3:
The Quest for Excalibur

Once Kie made it to the larger city, he looked around. This town was much larger than the Starter town; instead of a single street, this one was round with a castle in the center. The roads, unlike the other town, was cobblestone instead of dirt. The buildings were cleaner and mostly made of stone and brick. He walked through the streets and paused at a park, were a few Viscet's were hanging out.

~ Sure is lonely in here, guess I can't see other players. I just hope I can find my way out, before I die of loneliness,~ he thought.

“Alright, Jazza, can you point me to someone who needs help here?” He asked, looking at the blue orb next to him.

“What's the magic word?” Jazza replied sarcastically.

“Please?” Kie rolled his eyes, annoyed.

“That's better. come on,” Jazza ordered as he floated away with Kie following. Jazza lead Kie to a Viscet with white fur and a deep blue mane.

“Hello there! You must be new in town, I've never seen you before,” the Viscet replied.

“Ah, yes, I am -- my name is Kie.” He said with a friendly smile.

“Hello Kie, I'm Alekus!” The white Viscet replied, holding out his hand.

Kie took it and shook his hand.

“That’s a strong hand shake you have, do you think you can help me with something?” Alekus asked Kie, tilting his head slightly.

“Sure, what do you need?” Kie asked as he fixed his cloak.

“Well, you see, I was in the tomb of Eska and I lost my sword… I need help getting it back,” he confessed rubbing his neck.

“Sure, I can help,” Kie replied as he checked his gear.

“Sweet, let’s go!” Alekus said as he began to head off. Kie followed after him slightly confused at how lifelike they seemed to be.

As they left town, Alekus turned and looked at Kie with his soft golden eyes. “I see it happened again… Another is trapped in here.” He sighed.

Kie blinked at him, confused. “Wait, how did you know?” He questioned, confused.

Alekus sighed softly. “Because I’ve been trapped in here for a long time…. Long enough that the game and everyone else, believes I’m apart of the world.” He said looking at Kie sadly.

“So, that’s why when I shook you hand it felt... normal?” He asked, completely shocked by this new discovery.

“Exactly. While everyone else will feel real, but because you and me are from the real world, we feel the warmth from each other,” Alek replied as he continued on.

“So, how long have you been in here, do you know?” Kie asked Alek as he walked alongside him.

“No, I don't know,” he sighed, shaking his head. “Not like I had anything back home, but I do miss my friends.” He said with a sad sigh.

After that the two of them walked along in silence.

They soon made it to the edge of a dark forest covered in thorns.

“Keep your eyes and ears open, this forest is tricky.” Alek said, walking into the forest with his hand resting on the hilt of his crappy sword.

“I’ve played this game for awhile but it’s so different actually being inside the game,” said the large brown Viscet as he got out his bow.

The fact that someone else was trapped in the game with him made Kie a little more relaxed. But if there was two, how many more were there?

Was there more than just them?

How were they going to escape if so?

These thoughts and more flooded his mind as he walked. It had been a few days since he had gotten here. Having been so bent on surviving and the thought of going home, it had not occurred to him again since his first panic attack that he had not thought much more on the topic.

“Alek, do you have any idea how we can return to the real world?” the large brown Viscet suddenly asked, looking at the small white one next to him.

“No, I don't -- sorry.” Alek replied with a soft sigh as he dropped his ears slightly.

The two remained quiet for the remainder of their travel, except when wild animals attacked. When they arrived at the tomb entrance Alek looked at Kie.

“Ok, so we have to trek through this and make our way to the sarcophagus room. There's traps, most are solved with puzzles. I know most of them by memory, but some are more complicated.” Alek said before he pushed open the stone door.

“Alright, lead the way then,” Kie said in trusting that Alek knew the way. As he followed the white and blue Viscet into the tomb, it grew dark as they moved away from the door, but Jazza, whom had been quiet, Glowed to light there way.

“So Alek, how did you get through here the first time?” Kie asked, looking to the smaller cet before him.

Alek turned and looked at Kie with his golden eyes. “Because I use to have the best blade in the game, only one of its kind, But when I had to flee from down there, I lost it.” Alek replied.

“Why did you flee?”,

“Because I was not strong enough to fight the Boss alone,” the white Viscet replied. “But now I’m stronger, and I have you,” he added.

Kie smiled softly and chuckled. “Well, I’ll do my best, it’s nice to have company in here,” the larger Viscet said, looking at Alekus with his bright green eyes.

“I agree with you, I don’t know how long I have been in this game. But I’m glad I am no longer here alone.” Alek replied as he paused and looked around. “Careful, first trap is around here somewhere.”

Kie paused and looked around, his antlers knocking into the low ceiling, causing him to huff.

Alek chuckled softly at the annoyed sound coming from Kie.

“Try crouching a little,” he suggested as he de-rigged the trap and motion for Kie to follow.

As the two made their way deeper into the tomb,a sound caught Kie’s ears that made him shudder as he felt something move over his tail. He turned to look but nothing was there, and as he turned around, a large green python snapped at his nose.

“Ayee!” He screeched, falling backwards and landed on his back.

The python dropped down and slithered on to Kie’s chest. But Alekus casually picked up the python and chuckled.

“It’s harmless Kie,” he said, letting the snake go back into its hole.

“Why snakes… I hate snakes,” Kie mumbled as he tried to get up but he still struggled with the heavy antlers… “Little help?” He asked, holding out his hand.

“You must not be used to those antlers of yours yet,” the small white Viscet said taking his hand and pulled Kie to his feet and pulled some cobwebs from his antlers.

“Thank you Alek..” Kie sighed softly.

“No problem, I know how strange this world is to the real world,” Alek replied as he turned to head off again with Kie not far behind.

It seemed like hours going through the tunnels, taking out traps and solving puzzles. But the duo finally reached the Boss room. “Right, are you ready?” Alek asked looking at Kie as he pulled out his crappy sword.

“Yeah,” Kie said shakily as he pulled out his bow.

Alek nodded, opening the door to the room and stepping inside. As Kie stepped in behind him the door slammed, and the room began to rumble.

Before Kie had a chance to speak, the cover on the sarcophagus flew off and the most hideous mummified Viscet climbed out.

Kie’s fur stood on end, the smell alone was enough to turn his stomach, but the sight of this decaying creature before him made him want to turn tail and flee. But he had promised to help Alek get his blade back.

The smaller Viscet was the one to initiate the attack and rushed in a head of Kie, this shocked the larger one as he expected Alek to let him go first. But clearly he had underestimated Alekus and his abilities.

With the two of them they easily took down the creature and it turned to a black myst and retreated into its sarcophagus. Alek walked over to a ornate looking blade they rested on the ground and picked it up. As he did it lightened up, a golden light surrounded Alek for a few moment before vanishing. A long red cloak now layover Alek’s shoulders with a black crest on its center that matched the one hanging around his neck.

“Whoa! you’re a Knight of Eskar! I have never been able to complete that quest, I hear only beta testers were able to actually fully complete it,” he said.

Alek nodded. “Yeah, it was a hard mission, but I managed,” he said putting his sword to his side. “Come on. Let’s go find another dungeon to raid,” he smiled, of course he just playing along as the cape had come into the game with him. It was the Crest and knights cloak from his home.

“Sounds good to me!” Kie laughed and followed after him.

Chapter 4: The Quest Begins

Alekus and Kie spent some time hunting until dark, and then headed back into town. The forest was full of deer, wolves, rabbits and many other animals that provided them a good helping of resources.

“So, what are we going to do with this stuff?” Kie asked, looking at Alekus with a curious look in his Bright green eyes.

“Well, the antlers we can craft into a powerful crossbow for you, the bones can be sold, the hides can be turned into leather and used to upgrade your armor, and the fur…I want it for a hood for my cloak,” he added with a chuckle.

Jazza floated between the two, remaining quiet. He hated being ignored and chose to just give the two the quiet treatment.

Kie glanced at Jazza with a puzzled look,

"Why so quiet all of a sudden Jazza? You're normally so loud it's annoying." Kie laughed, questioning the Spirit.

Jazza huffed floating ahead of them, not caring if he hurt their feelings.

"He's just mad that you have a friend now and don’t need him. "Alekus chuckled and smiled at Kie.

"I guess you're right," Kie replied as he walked alongside Alek heading for town.

Once they got into town, Alek walked into the Inn, renting a room with two beds and access to a private bath. It had been a long day, both of them were sore and quite smelly, due to their track through the tomb and woods.

“A hot bath sounds sooo perfect right now!” Kie exclaimed with a content murr like sound.

“Yeah, I agree with you. I’ve done my fair share of exploring and raiding, but I’m always sore after a long day.” Alek chuckled as he walked with Kie to there room.

As the night passed by the two friends took turns soaking in the hot bath. After the bath, they helped comb each others manes to get out the knots and anything the baths missed. After this they each headed to their own bed to sleep the night away.

The next morning Alekus woke up and looked over at Kie who was still sound asleep.

Getting up the white and blue Viscet slipped quietly out of the room and walked down to the local bakery where he bought some sweet rolls for their breakfast. He also picked up some milk and fresh fruit from the farmer. Once he had this together, Alek return to the room and slipped in quietly.

“Hey Kie, It’s time to wake up,” he whispered softly, walking over to Kie’s bed and gently shook his shoulder.

A loud yawn escaped Kie’s jaws as he stretched like a cat.

“Good morning, Alekus,” he said as he looked at his new friend with his sleepy green eyes.

“Good morning to you as well, are you hungry?” Alekus asked as he motion to their breakfast on the table.

“Always!” Kie exclaimed as he got up, and stretched once more before walking over to the table and sat down. “So, what are we doing today?” He asked, picking up an apple.

“Well, first, I thought we could get your gear upgraded. Then once we are done with that, gather some supplies and head out for The Mage Guild…. See if anyone there can help you get home.” Alek replied.

“What about you?” Kie questioned looking puzzled.

“This place is my home. I’ve been here too long to return to the normal world,” He sighed softly.

Kie blinked a few times and looked at his food. ~But, how can I leave, knowing someone else is trapped here?~ he thought.

The two ate in silence, Kie too busy thinking to even acknowledge Alek, who just watched him the entire time with his ears drooped slightly. Kie finally snapped out of it and looked at Alekus.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, blinking.

“Its nothing.. Let’s just get going,” he mumbled as he got up, picked up his cape and pulled it over his back before picking up his sword.

Kie nodded and got to his feet, walked over to his armor and began putting it on, once done he donned his green cape.

“Alright, I’m ready.” He squeaked with another yawn.

With a simple nod Alekus lead Kie out of the Inn. First, they upgraded Kie’s armor, then changed out his bow for a crossbow. Once that was done, they stocked up on dried fruit and meat for their travel, splitting it evenly between the two of them.

The sun was high in the sky by the time they finished preparing for their journey to The Mages Guild, before they left, Alekus also bought a camping kit, so that they could rest between cities.

“So how far is this Guild?” Kie questioned a few hours into their trip.

“A few days walk from here, that is if we keep walking. If we do anything else it will take longer.”

Alek said as he walked along side Kie, who stood a few inches taller than him but with the antlers, Kie looked like a beast next to the slender and agile looking warrior.

Kie nodded softly and sighed as he looked up at the blue sky, a cool breeze blew his mane gently. He closed his eyes, pausing for a moment, Just taking in the warmth of the sun, the coolness of the wind. The roughness of the gravel road. The more he stayed in this world, the more it began to feel real to him.

“It's perfect, isn't it?” Alek asked, looking behind him at Kie, realizing the larger wasn't beside him.

“Huh?” Kie asked, opening his eyes and blinking a few times. He rubbed his neck and chuckled “Oh, yeah…. The weather here is, perfect.” He sighed with pleasure and smiled softly.

Alekus nodded gently and looked up at the sky as an eagle took off from a nearby tree. “Yeah, it really is…” He said sighing softly.

“Is something wrong, Alek?” Kie asked walking over to him and set a hand on his shoulder.

“It’s just, I love this place so much, but….never mind its stupid.” Alek said.

“Alek, you can talk to me, you’re my friend,” Kie said in a caring tone as he looked at Alek with concern.

“It’s just, you’re the first real person I’ve seen in Gods know how long, and now you’re going to be leaving me soon,” he whimpered drooping his ears.

“Oh…” Was all Kie could say as his ears drooped as well.

What would he do? He couldn't just abandon Alek, but he wanted to go home. ~Guess I'll chose when the time comes,~ he thought.

“Come on, let's get going,” Alek finally suggested, snapping Kie out of his thought.

“Yeah, alright. Let's go,” Kie said with a nod.

That night the two of them set up camp in a field. And after setting up a fire the two rested in the grass, watching the sun set.

As the stars began to spot the sky, Kie looked up into the dark blue night glancing over at Alekus who rested with his head on his paws.

“You know, your mane matches the night sky,” he commented as a few lightning bugs lit up the night around them.

“Yeah. I know,” Alek yawned softly as he closed his pale golden eyes. “Lets get some rest Kie, we have a long trip ahead of us.”

“Oh, well… alright,” Kie murmured, looking up at the sky as a shooting star shot across it. ~wow, wish, I need to make a wish!~ He thought in excitement, glancing over at Alekus before he closed his eyes.

“Shooting star that blazes the night, hear my wish that I speak to night. Help me make the right decision when the time comes.~ Kie quietly wished as he yawned himself and rested his head down on the ground.

They had yet to realize that a member of their group had left them. Jazza the annoying Spirit had abandoned them, angry that Kie had ignored him for to long.

Chapter 5: An Icy Situation

As the sun began to rise in the morning sky, Alekus shook Kie softly with his front paw.

“Kie, it’s time to get up,” he whispered softly, as to not scare him.

Kie yawned wide, opening his eyes. They met Alek’s who was almost nose to nose with him

“Good morning, Alekus,” he said, stretching as he sat up.

His stomach growled in protest. “Let's eat, I’m hungry,” he said, digging some fruit out and started munching on it.

Alekus chuckled, plopping down beside him and open the map. “Ok so, we need to continue up this path until we make it to these mountains. From there we have to go threw these cave. Stay close to me in there, I know my way through and it's easy to get lost for a first timer.” Alek said showing Kie the path.

“What about after we get out of the caves?” He questioned.

“We’ll continue after we get through the cave,” Alek said, putting the map away. “The caves alone are going to take us a few days to get through,” he said getting up, he held his hand out for Kie. “Also, we have to stop by the next town, it's the only one between here and the mountains and we need warm clothing,” he added.

“Oh, alright. Sounds good to me,” Kie said as he got to his feet as well, almost losing his balance but Alek helped him regain it.

“Still not used to those antlers of yours, are you?” Alek asked him.

“No, not really. But I like them better than I did at first,” Kie admitted.

The two of them walked along the road quietly until they reached the town. Alekus lead Kie to a shop and opened the door for him

“Get what you want. My treat,” he said as he let Kie in before going inside himself.

The shopkeeper looked up from his work as they entered. “Welcome, what can I do for the two of you?” He asked.

“Yes, we need warm clothing,” Alekus spoke up before Kie could say anything.

“I see, hmm, I should have something that will match your cloaks, give me a moment,” he said walking to the back.

Kie looked around while they waited and noticed a silver jewelry set with a necklace and headpiece, he picked up the box and waited for the shopkeeper to return.

“How much is this?” He asked curiously.

The keeper looked at the box and thought for a moment, “500 gold.” He said

Kie blinked and checked his coin count… he had enough but it would leave him mostly broke.

“Ok, add it to the other order,” Alekus said.

“But, its…”

Alek held up his hand, cutting him off,“I said I’d buy whatever you wanted, I meant it,” He said with a smile.

“Thanks Alek,” was all Kie could say, he had not expected him to buy something so much.

The shopkeeper sat the boots, jackets and scarfs on the counter and added up the total, along with the jewelry. After he was done, he told Alekus the price and it was paid for.

Alekus nodded to the Shopkeeper. “Thank you for helping us so quickly,” he said with a nod.

“Your welcome, come again,” the shopkeeper said, returning to his work.

Kie blinked slightly as he followed Alek out of the store. “I somewhat see what you meant when you said, you can tell real from fake.. But it's almost hard to tell.. The longer I stay here… The longer it feels real,” he said, sighing.

“It will do that to you,” Alekus chuckled softly as he walked along the road.

The two of them walked in silence for the next few hours, the flat lands with forests doting the open planes, making way for hills and light trees, more rocks and underbrush dotted the lands here, but as they walked the ground turned to stone. The oaks and maples of the flat lands slowly turned into pines, tall and slender as they with stood the high winds of the highlands better than the thicker trees.

Alekus was the one to finally break the silence.

“We should find a place to rest, it’s going to start getting cold. We need food and rest before we even attempt these caves,” he explained in a serious tone.

Kie sighed softly, “Alekus, couldn't we, go over the mountains? I’m….I’m claustrophobic,” he admitted solemnly.

“Well, I mean we can, but…. It will take longer, plus there's snow and ice up there.” He huffed, looking up at the mountains that towered before them.

“Please? Plus, my antlers might get in the way inside a cave, like they did in the tomb,” he added, reminding Alek of his issue in the tomb.

Alekus blinked a few times, “I didn't think of that… you’re right, it’d be best to go over,” he said.

They found a nice spot in a small clearing and set up camp.

“We can rest here till tomorrow… There's a river over there so we can get water, and maybe some fish for a hot meal.” Alek squeaked as he stretched.

“Ya know, probably the best thing about being trapped inside a game is we don't have to worry about carrying stuff on our backs…. Unless we just want to,” he laughed, smiling brightly.

“Won't argue there, but your not the one with these ten pound antlers on your head.” He said in a joking tone.

Alek laughed. “you got me there,” he said, chuckling.“So the river runs into a lake, want to go swimming?” He asked, looking at Kie.

“Hmm… Sure, let's go,” he said happily.

The two Viscets walked over to the lake and put their armor and stuff away before walking into the water. The two swam around for awhile before treading water to talk.

“This is fun, it’s rare I get to swim back home… I live in a city where there isn't lakes, and the pools are always full and never cleaned good, ” Kie sighed softly as he relaxed a little

Alek chuckled. “Well, I come from a completely different world than you. How I ended up inside a game is strange and almost impossible, but this place reminds me of home.” He said, sighing.

“How did you end up in here?” Kie asked curiously.

“Well, you see... I ended up in your time for a short time, and I tried to find a way home…. But the portal I opened… It didn't lead to home, it brought me here,” he said.

“Oh, I get it now. Even if you get out… You can’t go home,” Kie ponderd, drooping is ears.

Suddenly his eyes grew wide with horror.

“What is it?” Alek questioned looking at him with confusion.

“SNAKE!!!!!!.... A SNAKE HAS MY LEG!!!!!” He screeched out in terror as he began lashing his paws in the water, trying to get away, but only made it worse.

Alekus blinked and stuck his head under the water… he came back up and chuckled softly at Kie. “It's just a water plant Kie, it's not a snake,” Alek said, trying not to laugh.

Kie blinked at him a few times and used his other hind leg to free himself from the plant, then swam back to dry land, slightly embarrassed, behind him he could hear Alekus giggling.

Kie is so adorable I can’t even

Kie shook himself off and put his armor back on.

“I’m sorry to laugh Kie, but you have to admit… you jumped to conclusion way too quickly,” Alek teased.

“I hate snakes… I thought it was a snake,” he huffed, pulling his green cape over his shoulders.

“Sorry Kie…” Alek sighed as he pulled his cloak on.

“It’s fine. Let’s just go back to the camp,” Kie huffed as he walked away.

Alek’s ears drooped. ~I screwed up,~ he thought as he followed.

They made their way back to the clearing and set up another fire, Kie sat down, watching the flames dance. “We didn't even get a fish,” he said, groaning.

“I did,” Alek exclaimed, pulling out two large Pike from behind his back.

“Oh sweet, nice catch Alek!” Kie laughed smiling softly a little.

Alekus nodded and pulled out some skewer sticks and impaled the fish, putting them over the fire to cook.

“Kie, I really am sorry for laughing at you,” Alek stated.

“Don't worry about it, it’s ok,” Kie mumbled

A while later their fish were cooked and they sat in silence eating their food quietly.

After they finished, they settled down and fell asleep. Late that night, Kie woke up to Alek shaking him softly.

“What is it?” Kie asked with a yawn.

“Shh!” Alek hissed, motioning to the bushes “We have to hide,” he whispered in a low voice.

Kie blinked, but crawled his way behind the bushes.

“What's going on?” He whispered.

“Dragon!” Alek hissed as he huddled next to Kie in fear.

~Dragon? But why do we have to hide from….~ He thought and paused, realizing the white viscet beside him was shaking like a mouse. ~He’s afraid of dragons,~ he finished his thought as he pulled his arm around Alek and pulled him under himself to hide him more.

“Easy, Alek, it's alright,” he whispered softly, holding Alek in hopes to calm him.

Alekus buried his face in Kie’s chest, still shaking, whimpering like a scared puppy.

Kie looked up at the sky as the dark shape flew over them, letting out a deafening roar.

~That's not a part of the game,~ Kie thought as he looked down at Alek and rested his head down onto the scared cets back. “Easy Alek, it’s gone now,” he said after a few moments.

Alek whimpers and hugs him tighter.

Kie sighed, sitting down hugging Alek in return.

“Rest my friend… I’ll keep watch,” he said, holding Alek, allowing him to sleep against his chest.

Kie rested against the tree and soon fell asleep to.

The two started up the mountain early that morning, it was easy going for the first few hours, but as the day wore on the ground became more and more steep and treacherous. They stopped around noon for rest before they continued on.

“You know where we are going, right?” Kie asked as he pulled himself up some rocks and then turned to help Alek up.

“Yeah, we just go over the mountain, wherever we come off I'm sure we can figure it out,” he replied as he continued on up the mountain.

As they traveled, the rocky grounds became more and more stone and snow, and higher up the snow got deeper and deeper. As it grew dark, it was easy to see their breath before them in the bitter cold, finding a safe location the two huddled together during the night to rest. When morning came they continued on.

“Maybe this was a bad idea… the ice and snow is getting bad… and I think I feel a storm coming,” Alek said, sniffing the air.

“The wind is pretty bad too, glad we have these warmer clothing,” he replied as he walked.

“I agree…hmm, you know we could use some rope to keep each other from falling,” he said, pulling out a long piece of rope and handed one end to Kie.

Kie caught it, tying it around his waist. “Good idea,” he said as he looked around.

The two of them continued their way over the mountain, stopping every few hours to rest and warm up. They munched on their dried meat as they walked as there was no other means of a meal up on the snow and ice covered mountain. They came to a gorge with ice bridge over it.

“This looks like the only way,” Alek said, looking around and seeing no other way to go. “I’ll go first to make sure it’s safe, then you can follow,” He ordered as he slowly made his way over the bridge.

Kie followed slowly after, but being much larger and heavier than Alek, the bridge began to crack.

Alek looked back at Kie, their eyes met for a moment before the ice shattered beneath Kie.

A massive ploom of snow, dust and ice flew into the air as the ice bridge broke.

Alek was yanked from his feet and drug a ways before he dug his claws into the ice, feeling the rope around his waist tighten, almost to the point of not being able to breathe. He twisted and grabbed hold of something, sliding a ways over the cliff face but stopped short of being drug over.

As the air cleared, Alek could now see the vast opening beneath him, an open casum beckoning any who fell to the dark depth of the mountain and surely to their death. His eyes grew wide, too terrified to move, but a voice broke him from his trance.

“First off, Ow… second of all, Alek…You, You saved me,” the voice was shaky, almost out of breath.

Alekus blinked a few times and looked again, he was holding Kie by one of his antlers, as he dangled over the dark cavern. He slowly backed himself up, and as Kie was able to dig his claws into the side of the cliff they both worked on getting back up to safety.

“Thank you, thank you.” Was all Kie could say as he sat there on his hands and knees panting.

(( Art? ))

They rested for the rest of the day, night and late into the next morning. There near death experience had taken allot out of them and they just needed time to calm down from it.

Chapter 6: Heroes?

The rest of their journey was uneventful and they made it off the mountains, and had entered a more arid and dry land, but small forests still dotted the countryside.

“So, we can’t see the players of the game? That's why we haven't seen anyone other than the town people or random hunters?” Kie asked as they walked.

“Nope, I mean who would believe you if you said you were trapped inside the game,” Alek replied,

“I was just wondering why we hadn't seen anyone, the lands we just came from there were always people roaming around,” Kie replied with a shrug.

“Well, I wouldn't really know, as a I said, I come from a different land than you,” Alek reminded him, “so I really have no idea about what computers are other than the one I saw before ending up in here, the person who gave me shelter, he was playing this game.” Alek said.

“Ah, interesting,” Kie mused as he looked around. “Do you want to hunt for a hot meal? Or wait till we get to the nearest town and get food and a bed?” He asked.

“Lets wait till we find the town,” Alek replied.

The two continued on, both tired and sore from their trek over the mountains, even the rest they had, had not been enough to keep them from being sore. Especially after their near death to the ice cliff.

As they walked they begin to see smoke billowing into the sky, looking at each other they quicken their pace.

They soon came to a town but it was wrecked and burning.

“What happen here?” Kie asked in shock, blinking a few times.

“This is what it looks like when Dragons burn towns.” Alek explained, sighing.

“But, the Dragons in this game are confined to one area,” Kie added, confused.

“Then there's something much more wrong here than just a rogue Dragon,” Alek replied.

“Yeah… It’s odd. Come on, let's see if we can help,” Kie said as he jogged off for the burning town. I'll

“Wait for me!” Alek called after Kie as he ran after him.

The two of them entered the destroyed town together and started trying to find anyone that may be there and needing help. They did find a few people trapped and helped free them, it took them awhile, but once they found everyone in need of help they gathered them together. But they sadly didn't find everyone alive,

“Ok, is that everyone? Is anyone hurt?” Kie asked, looking at the group of Viscets.

“Yeah that's everyone, we all have a burns and lost our homes, and a few families, but thanks to you it's not worse, may we know the name of our Heroes?” The elder asked.

“I.. I’m Kie, and this is Alekus,” Kie said.

“Thank you Kie, thank you Alekus.” The elder replied. “I'm sorry we don't have anything to give you in return,”

“It's fine, we did not help you for anything in return.” Kie replied with a smile.

With that, Kie and Alek spent the next few hours helping the town clean up some and dig through the rubble for anything salvageable.

After a while Alek headed out into the woods nearby to find food for them all, while Kie remained in the town to continue helping, and set up a makeshift shelter with what they could, out of one of the less burned buildings.

Alek returned a while later with some meat and fruits for the townspeople.

“I hope this helps, me and Kie will find another place to settle for the night,” he said.

“Oh, well I hope to see you again soon, heroes,” the elder said, bowing his head to them.

Causing Kie to blink a few times and rubbed his neck “ I’m sure you will one day” He said in a reassuring tone. He glanced at Alek who nodded.

“Well, see you around,” Alek said as the two of them left. “So what now?” He asked.

“We can camp in the woods, find some food and then go from there,” Kie said, sighing.

“Something wrong?” Alek questioned, looking a him confused.

“Yeah, it’s just… They think where heroes and i don't know how I feel about that. I mean, just helping them means we’re heros?” He asked, not sure how to comprehend being called a hero.

“You didn't just help them, you saved them Kie. Had you not chosen to help them, more would have died. You are a hero,” Alek explained, putting a hand on Kie’s shoulder.

“I guess you’re right.. I did save them… But it was the right thing to do. Doesn't make me a Hero,” Kie sighed.

“Maybe not, but it was brave,” the white Viscet smiled a him softly.

A few days later the two arrived at The Mage Tower, and knocked on the door.

A few moments later an old Mage open the door.

“Yes? Can I help you?” He asked in a non caring monotone voice.

“Yes, umm… My friend here… He's well… He needs help. He’s, well, you see, trapped here in this world,” Alek said, not sure how to explain

“And you’re coming to us, why?” The mage asked, rolling his eyes, angry to be bothered.

“Because he wants to go home,” Alekus asked, confused at his rudeness .

“Hmm sorry, can’t help you with the Dragon problem, Once it’s dead, then well help,” He snapped, slamming the door.

“Well that was rude, Now what?” Kie whimpered with sighing.

“We kill a Dragon,” Alek said with confidence, looking at Kie.

“But I thought you were…” Kie stated, shocked at Alekus’s sudden change.

“Afraid of Dragons?... I am… But I have the only blade in the world that can kill it.” Alekus said.

“Are you telling me that a Real Dragon is in here to?” Kie asked, confused.

“Egg’s hatch… It’s my fault it's in here, I thought what I had was a Stone but it was an Egg” Alekus explained as he walked off.

Kie blinked a few times and ran after him. “Then I'm coming to help!” He exclaimed.

Chapter 7: The Rescue

Kie and Alekus made there way away from the Mages Tower, they walked along the dirt road and came across a large farm. A small Viscet looked up at them as they passed.

“Hey, excuse me a moment!” She called out and ran over to them.

“Hmm, yes? What do you need, Miss?” Alekus asked her.

“Uh, y-yeah, um, I was wondering… Are you the Heroes that saved the town after a Dragon attack?” She asked.

“Wow.. Word travels fast,” Kie muttered, causing Alekus to chuckle.

“Yes, we are,” The white Viscet replied to the smaller one.

The smaller looked at Kie and smiled. “So, that makes you Kie! The stories don't do you justice,” she said.

“Stories?” Kie asked confused

“Yeah! The Story of how you helped the town.” She said

“But that's just one story… You made it sound as if there's more,” the large antlered Viscet said to the girl.

“Oh. Well… Then go make more Stories!” She said, giggling

“We plan on it,” Alek said.

“Awesome!... Wait here a moment,” She said, taking off

Kie looked confused at Alekus who just shrugged slightly, and they both waited for the girl to return.

The young Viscet returned a few moments later with a bag full of Veggies and fruits. “Here! You might need these,” she said with a smile.

Alekus nodded and took the bag.

“Thank you, be safe, and watch the skies,” he said, before him and Kie headed off once more.

“How can being treated like a Hero not bother you?” Kie asked Alekus after a while.

“Because back home… I am one… I Saved my home, my Friends and a lot of other people from a very bad person. I don't help people for the fame, I help people because it's the right thing to do.” Alekus replied.

“I guess, but I don't feel like a Hero…” Kie sighed.

Alekus stopped and turned around, looking at Kie directly in the eyes. “Kie, Look. Being a Hero isn't all confetti and fame, Nore is it about being someone that's strong and brave. Being a Hero is about helping people because they need help, not helping them because you want something from it,” He said.

Kie blinked and nodded. “I understand, but I still don’t think I deserve being called a hero,” he said.

“Maybe not, but in times like this, helping people is Heroic,” Alekus said before heading off again.

Kie sighed and followed after him again.

“Do you miss your Friends back home?” Kie asked after a while.

“I do… Very much.. Especially my Best friends, Merthyr and Merlin.” Alekus said

“Merlin? Whoa, he's real? I thought he was just a myth!” Kie exclaimed, “I get it now… Excalibur… Merlin…. The Story of Camelot is true,” he said, his tail twitching excitedly.

Alekus looked at him. “Strange, I never thought that Camelot would even be remembered in your time,” He said.

Over head they could hear the sound of wings flapping, and the two slipping into some bushes. Kie peeked out and noticed the massive black dragon flying over head.

“I looks like its heading north east… what's up there?” He whispered, looking at Alek.

Alek pulled out the map and looked over it, he sighed and looked back at Kie.

“The Desert… But… There's a area of Volcanoes, I think that's where it’s staying,”

“Then that's where we are going.” Kie said.

“Then let's get to a town, we’re going to need the best armor, and you are going to need a better weapon,”

The two Viscet’s found their way to the nearest city and began to prepare for their quest to kill the dragon. But before they could head out they ran into a guy who looked desperate for help

“Is something wrong?” Kie asked, concerned.

“My Daughter…. She's been taken by Roughs, the Knights wont do anything!” He exclaimed, grabbing Kie by the cloak. “Please, help me, she's all I have,” he pleaded, a terrified look in his eyes.

“What way did they take her?” Alekus spoke up, resting a hand on the elderly man's shoulder.

“Towards the ocean,” the desperate father said.

Knowing it was way out of their way, Alek sighed.

“We'll help you,” He said.

“Thank you Good Sir’s,” The male Viscet said.

With that the two friends headed off to rescue this kidnapped daughter.

“So any idea were we should go first?” Kie asked as he walked alongside Alekus.

“First off, all we need to find is their hideout, then we try to figure out what to do, to get her out,” Alekus said as he continued walking.

They continue travel and asking farmers and small towns people about the bandits, they were able to get some information about them and went from there.

“So it sounds to me like they have her held up in the cliffs near the ocean,” Alekus said as they made their way to the location.

But before they could go anywhere, a group of rough looking Viscets stopped them.

“We don't appreciate you asking questions about us, if you continue to meddle in our business you will find your friends head on a pike,” the middle one growled. Before they left, Kie stepped forward.

“We just want the girl you kidnapped,” he said calmly.

“Her father owes us money, we will let her go when it's paid,”

“How much does he owe you?” Alek asked

“450 gold” the bandit said.

Alekus pulled out the same amount of coins and held it out. “Here, now let her go,” he ordered.
