Hailstar nuzzled his kits. Birdpaw And Minnowpaw seemed to grow up rediculously Fast. It seemed like just yesterday that he was pacing outside the nursery, talking with Larkspot. Pride radiated off of him and he and Thistlesnow were pressed next to eachother, admiring their two kits. “I’m so proud of you two!” Thistlesnow purred, showering them with affectionate licks. Minnowpaw pulled away. “Mom!” He meowed indignantly “You’re so gross! I’m an apprentice now!” Thistlesnow smiled slyly “Maybe, But you’ll always be my baby.” She dramatically wrapped herself around her son and nuzzled him, squishing his cheeks. Birdpaw giggled and looked up at her father. “I’m looking forward to hear how your training goes.” He meowed sweetly “Otterjaw may be young, but I can sense a good teacher in him.” He rested his chin on his daughter’s head and then looked over to the camp entrance. Hazelwing, Larkspot, Rainwing and Rowanfrost waited patiently, ready to go track down the rogues once more. He nodded to his family and trotted off to meet them and the group headed off.

Birdpaw walked along side her new mentor, and Clan mate, Otterjaw. He was cute, she’d give him that, but he seemed quite odd. He seemed paranoid, like at any moment something could jump out and attack him. Birdpaw shrugged it off. ‘Probably still just getting used to the Clan.’ She reminded herself, and she kept following him, eager to start her first training session.

Weaselfur padded across the dusty camp to the apprentice’s hollow, a somewhat shallow den dug out of the ground. He picked out Shadowpaw’s dark pelt fairly easily and prodded her in the side. “Wake up sleepyhead.” He cooed softly “You’ve got a big day ahead of you.” Today was the day that Shadowpaw would take her final assessment. She had been training long and hard and worked hard to make up for her age. Normally, an apprentice her age would be a warrior, but since she had come to the territory young enough to remain in the apprentice age range, she had to undergo the training. By now, she was ready. Weaselfur swore it. Every inch of him was proud of her. His first apprentice was finally ready, all thanks to him! “Come on!” He pushed “Don’t you want to be a warrior?” At his words, Shadowpaw leapt to her feet and was ready for the day.

as the weather starts to cool down, prey begins to return to aridclan territory. patrols can be sent out during the day instead of at sunrise and sundown. the risk of being bitten by a snake goes down, but coyotes return to the area and birds of prey are constantly circling, looking to fill their bellies. shrubs are slowly beginning to look greener and less dead.

falconstar nodded to tumbleweed as she headed out on a border patrol. she scanned the skies for threats before leaving the cave and darting along the rocky ground. she traveled west, towards the dappleclan border, keeping an eye out for coyotes and snakes as she went. the sandy she-cat hissed through her teeth as the stench of dappleclan wafted over her. "disgusting" she muttered under her breath. falconstar began placing scent markers along the border, heading south towards the desert.

tumbleweed meowed a soft greeting to his leader as she left the cave. he groomed himself before deciding to go out hunting. the black and white tom crept through the trees in the north of aridclan territory, near the prarieclan border. the black patches on his mostly white coat burned after his sunny trek from camp. he was lucky it was now leaf-fall and the sunlight wasn't so intense.

nomadclan - but more commonly referred to as the wandering clan - has no set territory. the clan moves every moon, never staying in one specific area. this causes many problems for the clan - such as the weather, the prey, other predators, and other clans.
due to all their travels, these cats are tough as nails. they show no weakness and trust very few. it is far easier to earn their scorn, much harder to earn their alliance.

the wandering clan cats come in a variety of pelt colors and sizes, due to the mingling of their genes. a common theme with most of the cats are their powerful legs, which are strong due to constant walking.

these cats care little about the code and more about their own clan. if they need prey, they will not hesitate to sneak into a different clans camp and steal their food. they have their own sense of honor, and play by their own rules.

the cats of the wandering clan have a different naming system, and have a different religion. every cat is born with their youngling-name, a name they have until they reach eight moons. on their eight moon, the giver-of-life shares their dreams and tells them their name until death. the cats have a giver-of-life and a giver-of-death. both share the sky, but never at the same time. legends say the givers were mated and all the cats are their children, who return to the givers when they die.

in the wandering clan, shamans and the leaders have an equal amount of power. leaders have been blessed by the giver-of-life, while shamans have been blessed by the giver-of-death. it is common for the two to mate, and if they have a litter it is considered a blessing of the highest order.

cats with solid ginger pelts and cats with solid white pelts are also considered blessed by the givers.

Patchedstar stared at Crispstripe. "You're telling me they were abandoned?" she asked, just to make sure she got the facts straight.

"There was no other scent around there except me and Fadedleaf." Crispstripe froze for a moment, as though he had let slip something he hadn't wanted to, then continued, "I was helping her gather herbs."

"Fine. We'll keep them." She lifted one of the kits up by her scruff and gestured for Crispstripe to do the same with the other.

When they were inside the nursery, Patchedstar clarified some of the details. "What has Fadedleaf said about them?" she asked.

"She said they were healthy kits and that there was a boy and a girl." Crispstripe hesitated for a moment. "She also suggested we call him Crescentkit and I thought Silentkit for the she-kit."

Patchedstar nodded and lay down with her tail stiffly curled around Crescentkit and Silentkit. Silentkit looked up at Crispstripe for a moment, her eyes still closed, opened them, blinked once, then shut them tight.

It was just before Patchedstar started kitting that she realized what the name was really. Crescentkit.

xxxxxbumbletail unsheathed a claw, circling the body that lay on the ground. tigerspring sat in the empty patient’s nest, watching her medicine cat with a thousand yard stare.

xxxxx“moment of truth,” the ginger tom mumbled to himself, pulling back the lips of the unconscious warrior. with a confused expression, tigerspring piped a question.

xxxxx“what do you mean?” she flicked her tail defensively, watching her mate’s brother lay motionless on the den’s floor. he had collapsed during a patrol with no prior warning; they had just barely missed it, as patch was known to wander off by himself.

xxxxxbumbletail looked to the gums of patch, then to the tabby warrior that loitered in his den. “heart failure.” he mewed solemnly. a loud sob could be heard outside in the clearing; it was patch’s sister, petuniapelt. she had stayed outside, not wanting to see her brother in such a vulnerable position. “i’m sorry, tigerspring.”

xxxxxshe simply nodded, taking a deep breath as she rose to her paws. she ran her nose across patch’s muzzle as she exited the den. the stillness of the afternoon was broken once more by a second sob, this time from tigerspring.

xxxxx“snaketooth said he and the patrol thought it was greencough.” reedstrike commented, padding up to the group of warriors that gossiped over the evening meal. hornetfang was loudly recalling the event, but her brother hastily hushed her as tigerspring approached. the tabby she-cat gazed at the group for a moment.

xxxxx“his vigil will be held soon. if you’re done with your meal, bring it to him. he loves squirrel the most.” she growled half-heartedly before entering the warrior’s den. embarrassed, hornetfang looked away. pineclaw bumped her side, standing up and taking his nearly-bare mouse towards patch’s body. reedstrike followed in the pair’s steps, finding a seat beside pondskipper as they waited for the vigil to begin.

xxxxxthe night clouds wrapped over the sky, the moon refusing to shine. sootstar exited her den, accompanied by ferretfur at her side. the clan had gathered, all broken off into their own little groups. the black she-cat growled for their attention - she was never harsh on them, so why now?

xxxxx“cats of amberclan,” she began, long tail lashing. “after reviewing patch’s state before his untimely death, we have seen some suspicious notes that just do not add up.” the clan looked around in confusion, not sure as to what she was getting at. sweeping her gaze over the crowd, she spoke once more. “bumbletail found foxglove seeds in patch’s system.” she looked over to the medicine cat, nodding for him to speak.

xxxxxthe ginger tom looked around uncomfortably before speaking. “yes, sootstar. his body soon rejected the contents in his stomach after death. the stench was no different than any other death, but foxglove seeds are undeniable here.” he remarked, nodding curtly to the cats around him. “i don’t know how he came across these seeds, given foxgloves are so far out from the territory. i’m sorry to say we suspect somebody did this intentionally.” a troubled gasp came from petuniapelt and tigerspring; their kits stood in front of them protectively, brindlepaw at the forefront. the ginger and white she-cat sobbed into her mate’s pelt softly, causing heads to turn. as bumbletail cleared his throat, he called for their attention once more. “after larkstreams equally untimely death and diagnosis of undeclared greencough, we don’t know if he was killed off in the same fashion.”

xxxxxsootstar took the reigns of the meeting once more, looking to her deputy. “ferretfur and i will be the leaders of the patrols throughout the rest of this season and those to come. as much as we don’t want to blame any cat, we must be cautious. i remind you all to visit bumbletail for your medical worries; do not go and try any leaf or berry you find out in the forest.” the latter made a few apprentices chuckle, but sootstar sent a demanding stare in their direction. with an irritated flick of her tail, she ended the meeting with one last message. “no cats are to leave the camp without a group of three, and absolutely no hunting or patrolling after dark.”

with a gentle shove to the moss, olivebranch made his way into the nursery. he maneuvered through the sleeping families, mewing a hello to each one as he passed. the tom settled himself beside his mate, an attractive sealpoint she-cat. two kittens suckled, another resting at their mother’s backlegs.

“has flurrykit even attempted the solid foods?” olivebranch inquired, dragging his tongue across the small shekit’s head. brandy shook her head solemnly.

“she’s trying though, that’s all we can hope for. she's stubborn for sure about it all, but she’s moving around well. bumbletail says she should be fine, but i worry.”

the grey tom nodded with a reassuring smile, laying his tail around flurrykit. “we’re all worried, brandy, but I can assure you the clan will try their best.” brandy looked up to her mate with a small grin, her fur laying flat now. she took a lick at flurrykit, which resulted in a content purr from the small she-kit.

flurrykit sat on her backlegs, small tail flicking. she looked around to both of her foster parents; it would be a while until she realized she was not related to any of the cats around her - not related to any cat in the clan, for that matter. but in this moment, flurrykit was content, and that's all the nursery could ask for.

"Where are we going?" asked Daffodiltuft. She was tired from all the walking and the terror and fear she had felt since Leafclan's downfall. In the first few days, all she had felt was numbness. Then, anger had set in. Now, a calm acceptance.

"To Forrestclan," replied Isidora, rolling her "r" slightly. It was a habit that was hard to get rid of, even after all the seasons she had been with Leafclan. "My sisterr, Mila, should be therre."

"Isidora?" Mila's shocked face popped out of the bushes. To the surprise of the Forestclan patrol and Daffodiltuft, the two sisters immediately leaped at each other and tackled each other playfully. Brown, black, and white fur flashed for a few moments before the mollies finally calmed down enough to begin speaking.

"It's been so long since--"

"I have three kits!"

"We had to leave Daffodiluft's brrotherr--"

"How was Leafclan treating you--"

"We would like to join--"

"Mila. Isidora." Duckpelt's voice broke into the rapid-fire conversation. "Let's go home. You're safe now. Now and forever."

Oakheart's heart panged. He had just taken away Snowfoot's daughter from her and now he would rejoin them in the afterlife. But it had to be done. The patrol was near the river, a dangerous place that had already taken many from them. And in a few moments with luck, it would take another.

"I'm sorry," he murmured as he shoved Snowfoot into the river. She barely had time to let out a panicked yowl filled with confusion before the patrol reacted. Despite their best efforts, Snowfoot slipped away downriver. Oakheart knew that she would drown; after all, she wasn't a very strong swimmer. Another victim gone. No, not victim. Snowfoot was someone who would have stood in his way. It was better like this. Spirits rarely had the power to interact with the living world, as he understood it, and this would ensure his rule.

Oakheart had delivered the poison himself, this time. Everything had gone well although he swore that he could still feel the sour taste of the deathberries. Honeystar had had a seizure and Dustleaf had panicked for a bit, before the clan had calmed down. Supposedly, all it had been was a bout of food poisoning. The brown tabby tom smiled. How literal. He sighed. If only Bramblingwhisker hadn't died. If only she had succeeded. Oakheart had been horrified when he had heard of her death. He should have been there! Dustleaf should have been able to save her! It only solidified his feelings about the leaders of Forestclan: useless. They were all useless.
