[ Silverstar and Moonfur patrol ] [ Moonfur hunts ]

Silverstar turned to Moonfur as he led her into camp for the first
time. Her eyes widened they pushed through the woven archway
that marked the camp entrance.
"Wow, you live here; all by yourself?" He opened his mouth
to reply, but the last part of her sentence caught him off guard.
"Uh, well, uh, yeah, but not for long!" He straightened up
as he finished. By now they were standing in the middle of camp,
and he bounded onto the Tallstone. Moonfur's eyes widened even
more, the moonlight reflecting off them so they looked completely
white, which he assumed is why she had been called Moon. He had
wanted to name her Mooneyes, but she had requested the name
Moonfur. He was jolted back into reality as he felt her brush
against him. He turned to her, but she was staring at the stars.
"Where's your family?" She asked, and he stiffened. She looked
over at him, concerned.
"Heh, it doesn't matter, they aren't here." He avoided eye
contact, yet she persisted.
"What happened?" She pried. He growled.
"Why'd you care?" he sighed, "it would be better if you
didn't know." He jumped down, turning and heading into his
den, signifying that the conversation was over. Moonfur sighed,
and headed towards- She realized she had no idea which den
was hers. She stopped and awkwardly shuffled her paws.
Silverstar must've heard, because he called;
"Second bush to the left." She meowed a soft 'thank
you' before heading to the eerily empty den. She quietly
settled down close to the center and closed her eyes.

[weather]
leaf fall [autumn] :: the shadows begin to grow longer as the days slowly begin to shorten. the heat isn't as intense as it once was. a dry breeze makes its way through the clans territory but the sun still shines brightly in the sky. prey is slowly going into hiding and predators are making their presence known.

Hazelwing walked alongside Weaselfur and his apprentice, Shadowpaw. Rabbitpaw bounced behind them, taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells of her new home. The air had gotten cooler and Rowanfrost had even reported a small white mark on a plant. Whether it was just web or actual Frost was to be debated, due to the fact that the cats dwelled in a desert-y mountain home and rarely ever got snow that stuck long enough to be a problem. However, any sign of the approaching leaf bare was unsettling. Even though their territory never truly freezes over, it got cold enough that most of the prey dared not exit the warm safety of their den. That’s why Hazelwing has chosen hunting as today’s lesson. That way, Rabbitpaw could contribute to the dwindling prey pile. They had a good stock so far, but you could never know what would happen. Weaselfur turned to her. “You know, you haven’t been spending a lot of time with Larkspot lately. Is everything alright? Want to talk about it?” He meowed worriedly. “There’s nothing to talk about.” She responded dryly “It’s just that, with him being deputy and all, he hadn’t had much time to hang out. And besides, now I have an apprentice to train so I won’t have a lot of free time.” The tom next to her nodded slowly. “Well, just because you’re busy doesn’t mean you can’t talk to him.” He pointed out and, with a flick of his ear, added “And if he doesn’t want to talk to you, he’s missing out. You’re a wonderful She-cat and he doesn’t realize what he’s got.” Weaselfur winked at Hazelwing and nudged her playfully. Hazelwing looked at her paws, smiling and blushing. “Thanks, Weaselfur.” She meowed quietly “I just hope him being deputy doesn’t change what we have.” The sandy tom straightened up. “Hey, just let me know if he does somethin bad.” He told her, a dramatic, deep tone commanding his voice “I’ll beat him up for you.” This made Hazelwing giggle and she pressed her muzzle into his neck. “Thanks, Weaselfur.” She repeated, trying to stifle waves of giggles “I’ll see you later.” And the parted ways, both off to train their apprentices.

the day is quiet. it seems as though nothing dare disturb the silence. prey lay hunkered down in burrows and dens. birds dare not sing a song. now wind rustles through the territory. the only sound is the quiet thud of paws hitting the ground and off in the distance the sound of a soft sob echoing through the mountains. the patrol had been out for some time and things hadn't been all that interesting. but before the group was to head back to camp shadowpaw insisted that she heard a strange noise coming from up north. weaselfur and rainwing humored the apprentice and followed after her. but soon the two warriors also heard what the keen apprentice was hearing. the cries of despair. reaching the top of a dip in the earth the three cats stared down at a pretty she cat nuzzling a small kit close to her. sniffles came from the she cat as she nudged the kit. shadowpaw stared curiously while rainwing felt her heart break and weaselfur grew full of sympathy. it wasn't until weaselfur spoke that she she cat noticed the patrol. hello ,, he softly said ,, his voice calming. the she cat slowly looked up ,, her eyes full of sadness. it was evident that the kit didn't make it and it was more so that she refused to accept it.

he won't move. the she cats voice cracked as she spoke ,, her voice high and somber. inching closer rainwing glanced at the kit. the sight was horribly sad ,, her heart just couldn't handle it.

may i take a look? rainwing asked. the queen barely nodded ,, returning her gaze to the kit. crouching beside the queen rainwing took a sniff at the kit. poor thing was already cold as ice. we have a cat that may be able to help him. that was a lie. the kit was gone ,, but rainwing refused to tell the queen the truth. if you just come with us he may be able to help your kit. the queens eyes looked to her kit then to rainwing. once more she nodded. gently grabbing the kit by its scruff rainwing carefully lifted it from the dusty ground. weaselfur came up beside the queen and helped to get her to her feet ,, letting the queen lean on her. shadowpaw just stood with wide eyes ,, unsure of what to do or say. hesitantly she came up to the queens other side ,, helping to support her. together weaselfur and shadowpaw helped the queen back to camp while rainwing carried the deceased kit.

[ weather: leaf-fall ] during leaf-fall, it will start to get colder so the amount of prey you will catch will go down. The sun will start going down earlier and earlier and this will continue into leafbare. kittings will start to get a little bit harder so make sure to stock up on kitting herbs like fennel, chervil, ragwort leaves and raspberry leaves. you will also run into foxes and possibly badgers more.

“no, you don’t understand.” brandy growled at the cats around her. “i have another kit out there. she’s with his father, thank god, but she isn’t weaned off of her milk yet!”

a common occurrence within the camp; a new cat among their ranks. ferretfur weaseled his way between cats towards the nursery. there, the mix-bred molly defensively rose her hackles as the other queens questioned the second kit’s whereabouts.

tigerspring was readjusting her nest when this all came up. now, the old queen was attempting to calm brandy down. “i’m sure they can send a patrol for them. brandy, is it? what’s the name of your second kit? and your mate?” she questioned softly, rare for the tabby she-cat.

brandy seemed to be overwhelmed by all the cats around her. she looked to tigerspring, motioning towards the entrance of the camp. “i can tell you where they are if you’d just let me out of camp for five minutes! you’re all stressing out ivykit, even though she can be without my milk for that long.” suddenly, the she-cat started trotting out towards the entrance. as tigerspring followed, as did a handful of warriors, brandy sprinted away in a blind panic.

pineclaw looked to his sister, hornetfang, with a sigh. they had just got her calm, too. now, it was time to hunt down her scent; and her family’s, too.

shubunkin strutted through the forest, the autumn colors seemingly displaying his beautiful pelt. the crisp smell of apples was washed away when a stench filled the tom's nose. fox! he thought in alarm, looking at the others in the patrol, who were tensed and tasting the air. "should we follow it?" tigerspring meowed, hesitant. dawntuft, on the other hand, was ready to turn tail and run back. "uhh...." she looked at goosecloud, who had been chosen to lead the patrol. "let's take a vote, i guess?"

border patrols:
❧ pineclaw, hornetfang, patch, petuniapelt, and snaketooth's patrol is uneventful. during the patrol, most cats admire the fall leaves as they float down to the dry ground.
❧ goosecloud, orchidstep, dawntuft, shubunkin, and tigerspring catch the scent of a fox. do they pursue it or ignore it? it seems to be a mother fox.
❧ unfortunately, the rest of brandy's family is nowhere in sight. their scent has been found near the edge of the territory.

hunting:
❧ demelza, kumonryu, shubunkin, almondflower, and rivergum catch x1 small fish, x1 vole, and x2 mice. it seems to be enough to feed some cats.
❧ boulderfoot, goosecloud, shellskip, orchidstep, and mistpaw catch x2 small fish, x1 mouse, and x1 squirrel. both patrols are lucky with their catches!

herb hunting:
bumbletail and poppypaw find x3 cobwebs.

nettlepaw scrambled up the tree, her claws sliding down. panicking, she struggled to dig them in, and raced past a branch. with a snap, it broke, and scratched her cheek from the force. blood dribbled down the side of her face, and she looked down, suddenly afraid of being so high. "GET ME DOWN, PLEAAAASSSEEE!!!" she yowled, otterpaw looking down at her oddly.

training:
❧ otterpaw learns climbing!
❧ nettlepaw fails to learn climbing. she receives a gash on her cheek, and requires x1 cobweb to stop the blood.
❧ sheeppaw learns hunting!
❧ brookpaw learns hunting!
❧ brindlepaw fails to learn hunting, but is determined to complete it. maybe he'll do better next time...

squirreltuft let out a yowl of pain, feeling as if her side was being clawed open. after a deep breath, her last kit arrived at her side, bumbletail licking it furiously. it showed no sign of life, along with three others. suddenly, blood began to pour out of squirreltuft, her side heaving. scrambling to get herbs, bumbletail returned, working furiously to save the queen.

kitting:
❧ squirreltuft gives birth to six kits! bumbletail managed to save squirreltuft, but as for the kits.. four are stillborn, and the remaining two die shortly after. she mourns her kits, and seems to be depressed for a time.
❧ peony gives birth to five kits! they are all healthy.

❧ ivorypaw passed her assessment! the clan shouts her new name; ivoryfang!
❧ lionpaw passed her assessment! the clan shouts her new name; lionwatcher!
❧ mistpaw passed his assessment! the clan shouts his new name; mistpool!

flurrykit gazed around camp, her eyes big blue discs of wonder. "whAS' thAT?" she meowed, looking at brandy. "uh.. i'm not quite sure." her adoptive mother meowed, looking at the fresh-kill pile. "i think it's the fresh-kill pile." she hesitated, before nodding firmly. "oh.. WHAS' THAT?" flurrykit meowed, pointing at sootstar. "that's sootstar, our leader," brandy chuckled, pulling her two kits closer to her. inside, she was panicked and hoping that her mate and kit would be reunited with her.

indent the journey would be long, but ontari felt euphoric. it was her time to prove that she was capable of being more than just a princess. every cat in the clan, except the newborn kits and their mothers, would be going. in exception also to warriors that needed to stay behind and protect the queens. ontari glanced up at luna, her gaze softening at the sight of the ebony molly. “you should not be here, luna.” ontari sighed, letting out a breath she had not known she was holding.
indent“i had to wish the princess luck, didn’t i?” luna reasoned, her icy stare melting, becoming more respondent to ontari’s beauty.
indent“that nickname won’t work anymore after i’m commander.” she insisted, turned her ginger and white face toward the west, watching as a patrol of her clanmates left the camp.
indent“whatever you say, princess.” luna paused, clutching thin, invisible strings attached to ontari. “is that your patrol headed to polis?” it was quiet for a moment before ontari turned her eyes from the patrol.
indent“yes, and they’ll be expecting me. does floukru leave soon?” another long silence, while ontari fought to avoid luna’s piercing gaze.
indent“they’ve already left. i was to be their champion, but after running from my conclave, floukru could not show their face if i was…” she trailed off, her expression becoming more resolute. “i’m glad i don’t have to kill you, ontari.”
indent“i suppose you mean you’re glad you don’t have to die by my claws.” she snarked back, her eyes shining with amusement and her tail curling tightly as she suppressed her laughter. she leaned closer to luna and the two embraced for a moment, but then as quickly as her joy had come, ontari drew away from the ebony molly. she stood up, glanced toward her clan that was now receding down the mountain. “go home, luna. there is nothing for you here.” she insisted, unsure who she was trying to convince.
indent“don’t die out in the conclave. and remember, you don’t have to kill them all. just the last one standing.” luna suggested, leaning closer to ontari as she touched her nose gently to the ginger molly’s ear. “it is not cowardice to hide from a fight until you are the last one alive. it’s smart.”

indentdiamond's heart clutched inside her chest, and she halted in of the winding road. she let out a cry of pain, like her chest had been impaled with glass shards from her broken heart. she stumbled for a moment, when niylah held up her tail, ordering the rest of the cats to stop. queen nia glanced with little to no sympathy, but nodded at niylah's suggestion. the patrol stopped and ambled away from diamond, though niylah, skai, and octavia remained at her side. skai touched her nose to her foster mother's ear, before bounding away and joining the rest of the cats, pulling octavia away with her.
indent"it's not our fight, little one." skai whispered.
indent"what is it, diamond?" niylah asked, her eyes flashing with sympathy. diamond was despondent, her eyes glazed over with pain and hardly felt the healer's probing paws against her rib cage.
indent"leave me be." the siamese hissed, receding into her sadness, wearing it like the pelt on her back. niylah nodded respectfully and joined skai's side, where octavia and lincoln began to brawl. the broken queen watched as octavia swiftly pinned lincoln to the ground and imitated slicing his throat. she watched octavia win her fight, but found no energy to congratulate her. it seemed her star was determined to expose all truths to her, even that luxx had lain with another molly and gotten her pregnant. the siamese queen could not find joy in octavia's strength of will, because she had none herself, not anymore. they'd traveled for half a moon, and somehow, diamond knew she could not continue on for another moon and a half. "i must go back." she announced, hauling herself to her paws. "i'm pregnant, and traveling is putting too much strain on me." she lied, feeling guilty as octavia's eyes shown with excitement. she would no longer be the smallest or youngest, or so she thought.
indent"i'll go with her. someone needs to protect her, and i won't be participating in the competitions anyways." king atohl spoke up, silencing diamond's protests with a stern gaze.
indent"fine, take her home. the rest of us move on now." queen nia ordered.

summary: some of the clan leaves for polis, an abandoned twoleg city, where they will compete in brawls until the finale where each of the 12 clans offers up a champion to fight to the death and become commander over the coalition. each of the 12 champions must be a nightblood. azgeda's champion is ontari, and if she wins, she will become heda and all 12 clans will bow to her. the cats encounter no issues on their journey so far, but it will take them until next moon to get to their destination. diamond gets heartbroken when she learns that luxx has cheated on her, but worse, gotten the molly pregnant: and leaves to head home. king atohl volunteers to accompany her as protection, but the two grow close in diamond's sadness and need for comfort...

at home, lexa revels in her role as leader of azgeda, and most cats are happy that she is leading. in haste, she goes to pramheda's worship cave and asks for her to give her nine lives secretly, in case she should ever need to take command of the clan, and due to her own ambitions.

bellamy creeped through the forest, eyeing a large rabbit. oh boy! everybody is going to be so jealous when i catch this! he glanced back at his mentor. lila stood quietly behind him, gesturing for him to go ahead. nodding firmly, he stalked towards the prey, stepping on a twig. the rabbit jerked its head backwards, and bellamy leaped on it. it squirmed away, and bellamy chased after it. soon, he stopped. looking around, he realized he had gone out of azgeda's territory, and inched backwards. a growl sounded from the shrubs, and a young lone wolf stalked out. it charged at the young second, leaping at the last minute. bellamy rolled to the side, remembering his battle training, but the wolf was too big for him, despite being young. it clawed his face, causing the left side to fill with blood.

he blinked hazily, hearing the yowl of lila's voice, and seeing the pelts of his mentor and arker racing at the wolf. he took a deep breath, and went unconscious.

Hazelwing padded along quietly. Larkspot has chosen her to lead the patrol, even though he tagged along. He walked beside her too, muscles rippling through his fur and handsome eyes scanning their surroundings. Hazelwing sighed. Weaselfur was right. She should give him a chance. Being deputy was busy and, by the looks of things, it seemed that Larkspot would be Deputy a lot longer than he thought. Thistlesnow told Hazelwing how nice it was to be a queen, not having to arrange patrols and just looking after her kits. She had loved the job, no doubt, but the silver queen was suited better for motherhood than Deputyship. At least in Hazelwing’s opinion. Licking her lips, she turned to face Larkspot. “Hey.” She meowed quietly “What’s new. I know we haven’t talked in a while.” The tom’s eyes lit up and a broad smile crossed his face. “Yea, I know.” He replied “It’s a bit boring, to be honest. Like no offense to Rowanfrost, but the chats we have aren’t exactly riveting.” The she-cat chuckled and continued to walk, searching her mind for topics to talk about. “So what’s it like being deputy?” She asked, redirecting her path so that she was closer to Larkspot. The two continued to patrol, but now the crisp air was filled with their happy remarks.
