Malia smiled at him, relieved. "Goodnight, Troy."
She stepped inside her building and closes the door. Then she went through the same routine as last night: locking the door, pushing the chair under the handle, closing the shutters, pulling off her boots, putting away her weapons, and sliding a knife under her pillow. Then she climbed into bed and closed her eyes.

Malia couldn't sleep. She lied there in bed, staring at the ceiling until she decided to get up and go for a walk. She pulled on her boots and grabbed a knife, not bothering with her spear and weapons belt. She picked her her staff, removed the chair, unlocked the door, and stepped outside. Malia closed the door behind her and walked without a destination in mind. The moon was bright and the sky was clear. A million stars twinkled, and judging by the moon's position, it was around midnight.
She found herself in front of the Otto's house. She wanted Troy's company, but knew that he was most likely asleep. She didn't want to disturb him. She headed for the cow's pasture instead, as that was the only other place she knew how to get to. She realized that the horses' corral was near it, so she went there instead. The horses were lying down in the barn, but most of them started when Malia walked inside. All but the grey horse Troy had said never spooked at anything. Malia approached her, and reached out a tentative hand to pet her. The horse didn't even blink when Malia stroked her head. Malia let the years that she had held in since she told Troy about her family loose. They rolled down her cheeks and she found herself crying. She forced herself to stop. Her mother always said that you had to just let yourself cry sometimes. It was better than keeping it all in. But Malia disliked letting herself cry. It made her feel weak and pathetic, and she hated feeling like that.
Suddenly overwhelmed with exhaustion, she later down beside the horse, resting her head on her sturdy shoulder and wrapping her arms around her neck. She feel asleep, stray tears trailing down her face.

It took a little longer for Troy to fall asleep than it did last night, although that didn't surprise him, today was a pretty relaxed day on the ranch. When did finally did fall asleep however, he dreamt of the good old days, he dreamt of when he was still young and when he spent his days on the farm playing with his brother. It made his heart ache because they were so close back then, now though, they seem to keep fighting. They still care about each other but can't help but butt heads all to often. He didn't know what brought the dream up but it probably had to do with the thought that he really was lucky. He hadn't lost anyone to this. Not like Malia. She'd lost everyone. She didn't even have her home any more. He still felt bad for bringing it up though.

Troy knocked on the door to her building and, when there was no response, he opened the door to check if everything was alright. When he couldn't find her, she started to panic. She didn't know the ranch all too well, what if something happened? He started searching for her, starting at the fields, then working his way to the cow pasture.

This dream was different from the other ones. In this one, she was handed the gun and was forced to kill her family. The Proctors leered, yelling at her to do it. Proctor John held her at gunpoint, telling her that if she didn't shoot them, she'd be killed herself. Malia dropped the gun. There was no way she was killing them. Proctor Nineteen shot her family, then Proctor John told her that the worst punishment was living with the pain. He told her that she didn't deserve the peace of death. He told her that she'd be left to live everyday alone, the dead haunting her.
Then her dream changed, going back to her memory of that night.
