I'm so nervous, I only have 3 ungrown pups left! I hope people won't start demanding overpay for the "very rare" and "OMGSR" pets, just because they're based off of rarities doesn't mean they'll turn into those rarities guys.

Being based on books isn't copyright. Having lines traced is copyright and Malk didn't do that.

The problem was that the dragons were clearly the book's dragons, not simply dragons inspired on them. The same issue happened to the sitting cats, they were literally characters from the warrior cats books. CS has no permission to use someone else's designs/characters and that's what the copyright issues were about.

Whenever an artist takes inspiration from a source material like a book series, game franchise, movie, etc. they are required to make the pets' designs as abstract as possible(like my Sonic and ghibli litters), this way we won't be crossing copyright territory by using a character design that doesn't belong to us.

Hmmm, why are people for some reason overpaying for the bday malk dragons? I've seen some people show trades about that before. (Not to mention there's a good chance that the dragons won't be rare or something, and just ordinary commons.)

If there was an issue with the line art itself, I doubt staff would be using it, so I don't think we have anything to worry about with the Malk dragon changing line art or anything. It seems like it was just an issue with the original dragons' designs being copied from already existing books.

It's because the Malk dragons have always been popular and sought after. Getting a new dragon after so many years without them would naturally give it a boost in demand. I do think it's getting a bit ridiculous with how much people are overpaying, though.

I think the problem arises when you consider the fact that CS does have currency that you have to pay real money for. If everything on the site was completely free I doubt it would be an issue, but since you can buy currency and then trade that currency for the Malk dragons, that is technically making profit.

For reference, here is what happened with the "Warrior" cats. tl;dr is that the lineart is fine because it's Tess's and the "Warrior" designs are fine because they are ultimately generic cat designs, but the problem was displaying the official Warrior cat names and the overarching name "Warrior Cat" in conjunction with the designs.

I wasn't around to see what happened with the Malk dragons, but my guess based on what I've read here and there is that the issue is with neither the lineart itself nor the color designs. I think the issue is the concept/growth progression? As in, the way the dragons grow is precisely like how they grow in the books. Since, as far as we can find, dragons are mythical creatures, there is then a lot of wiggle room for how dragons can grow. So when the growth progression matches exactly...

Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.

edit: I just found something that says Tess added a link to the dragons' pet pages that explains where the dragons came from. Did this lead to a similar situation as the Warrior cats?

Will all of their rarities be a common or uncommon at most? Is it possible for rares, vrs, or urs?
