Shylo ran a hand through his hair anxiously. Cracking a sad smile, he spoke, the words falling out of his swollen lips painfully. "I- I don't know, really," he stuttered softly, "I yelled at this guy, and he apparently can't fight with words and resorted to his fists." He was ashamed, in all honestly. To put it simply, he was utterly ashamed and disappointed in himself, as well as the other participant in the fight. He didn't think about how telling Rei would take a toll on him, and how great of a toll it would be. Shylo didn't want her to view him as weak and defenseless, but there was no use in lying to her. They had some sort of connection that he couldn't deny even if he tried his hardest that would snitch on him.
He smiled softly once more, again wincing through the pain of the smile. "But I'm fine, I promise," he reassured her, noticing the break in her, somehow, angelic voice.

Rei was filled with nothing but sadness as Shylo explained what had happened. Yet there was a twinge of anger as well. How could someone attack someone as kind and gentle as Shylo?
"Who hurt you?" Rei said quietly. Her eyes flashed red, and she caught sight of it in the mirror of a nearby open locker. Closing her eyes, she tried to calm herself down. "I'm sorry. That doesn't matter. But we need to get you fixed up," she said. "Come on, I have some first aid stuff in my bag. It's a little bit late but I don't want any of your cuts getting infected," she said briskly, trying to cover up her worry and concern. She couldn't bear to see Shylo like this.

Taking a step back from Rei, Shylo sighed. Rei's eyes had gone a bright red; he'd never seen that before, which could have been obvious. He'd never met a demon before her, so it's only reasonable he'd never seen an.. angry? one. His mind started racing, wondering why they did that. All that happened when he was angry was his wings began to sprout a tiny bit, giving him a slight appearance of a hunchback when his shirt was on. He opened his mouth to speak, to ask her why they'd gone red, but he flinched at the cracking of his lip as blood sprinkled out. Closing his mouth, he fought the urge to lick his lip in attempt to cool it down and make it feel better.
He nodded slowly, taking up on her first aid offer.

The bell signalling the start of class had come and went. Rei led Shylo to a quiet, rarely used hallway (it was full of storage rooms) and set to work. She carefully wiped away the fresh blood, and then applied an antibacterial gel to them. She dabbed at his cuts, apologizing for the pain, and then cleaned them. Finally, she put a cooling lotion on his face to try and ease the swelling.
"I'm sorry, there's nothing I can really do for your eye," she apologized. "Are you feeling alright?"

Shylo nodded, "I'm just surprised they didn't suspend me, or the other person," he let out a soft chuckle accompanied by a smile. Even if it hurt, he couldn't help but smile and laugh at her. He then spoke once more, "Thank you." His cheeks flushed a deep red as he realized he should've thanked her immediately; He was embarrassed that he hadn't. Staring at Rei, he sort of spaced out for a moment. In all honesty, she was the one with the angelic features, and he thought she was absolutely beautiful. She also seemed to care about him, which was extremely foreign to him; He was genuinely shocked by this. Or, maybe, he was reading into it. And she was just being a good friend. He'd always been bad at reading between the lines.

Rei looked deep into Shylo's eyes. She had heard of creatures with the power to look into souls, but despite once yearning for that ability, she knew she didn't need it with him. His eyes were like translucent sea glass, and Rei could see all of the good radiating out of this boy and how kindness was what shaped the gentle crinkle of his eyes, the easy going lopsided smile, and the perfect teeth in his dazzling smile.
"What do you say we get out of this school for today?" she whispered. She only had English with Shylo, and she didn't want to leave him for the entire morning.

Shylo looked at Rei, shocked. He blinked quickly a few times. "I haven't skipped school since before," he trailed off, scared one of the other students in the school would hear, "well, you know," he mumbled the last part rather quietly. He looked down at the ground, contemplating it. He wanted to hang out with her, but his schooling was the whole reason he was there anymore. The people that he used to watch were gone, they'd died, and just disappeared into thin air. But then again, he wanted to hang out with her. Not knowing how to say no to her, he nodded, a slight smile tugging at his lips.

Rei smiled a little as she watched conflicting emotions cross Shylo's face. "Let's go, then," She gently helped Shylo up and they walked through the halls and out the doors together.
They walked together in the brisk breeze, until they arrived at a nearby park. It was fairly large: there was even a forest and a lake.

The first thing Shylo noticed was the lake. He scurried over to it, watching the fish swim around. Sitting down, he swung his legs over the side, his feet dangling into the cool water. As much as he loved the water and missed swimming, he was somewhat afraid of it, so once the water reached close to his knees, he refused to allow his legs to dangle any further. The fish moved so effortlessly in the water, and he missed when he was able to do that too. He let out a soft sigh, his lip cracking with the cold breeze hitting it. He brought a hand up to his lip and held it, hoping not to drip any blood into the water. Fish swarmed his legs, lightly nipping at him, and he giggled quietly at this. Fish and water had always been his facisination, even after he drowned.

Rei followed suit as Shylo slipped his legs into the water. She quickly pulled off her shoes, carelessly throwing them to the ground as she ran, barefoot, to join him. Shivering a little as the cool water enveloped her legs, she laughed as the fish tickled her as they swam past. Reaching into her school bag, she pulled out a (sloppily made) sandwich. She removed the bread, handing one slice to Shylo. Picking off tiny pieces of it, she tossed it into the water and watched, mesmerized, as the fish crowded around it, until one victorious fish caught the morsel in his mouth.
