Why do they look so,,, strange?
Core is part of a group of Simas whose job is to guard an ancient gem at the base of a pond hidden in a cave. The gem glows a dim blue, as part of your assessment of being worth guarding it, you have to swim past the fish (disturbing them as little as possible) and touch the gem. If it deems you worthy, it changes your physical appearance to the representative colors of the illuminated water and the stone cave walls, granting you claws and a beak-like jaw as tools to protect it. Needless to say, Core was one of the few who passed the test.

Quix used to be just a normal, homeless, Sima. He was taken off the streets and for a time, he was content. The problem was, his new family couldn't pay both rent and for Quix, so they entrusted him to a "homeless" shelter. Should he have known about it beforehand, he wouldn't have gone but he was pressured into it by his family, who wanted to make sure he would be cared for. But cared for he wouldn't be. This was no normal shelter, for it experimented on the Simas that it was able to obtain. Quix was one of those unlucky few. Most of the Simas who went in came out completely different creatures, but fate pitied Quix for once. The shelter was shut down and he was normal enough to be released. Many of the others remained contained. Many never got out of captivity, despite being really kind, normal Simas (except appearance). Quix soon found his way to a society of abnormal Simas who were hiding from the world and made many friends. He has resided with them since, finding great comfort in the fact that he is not alone. One day he wishes to return to normal, but he is not ungrateful of his appearance.
