𝖘𝖍𝖞𝖑𝖔 let out a small puff of air, "well," he
said, drinking the last bit of his latte, more
frothy foam landing upon his top lip. "i
suppose i should be heading home. i'd offer
for you to come over, do homework with
me or something, but i assume you wouldn't
want to step into my territory. trust still
needs to be gained, i presume."

he put the small coffee cup onto the saucer
it came on, his eyes almost locked to rei's.

shylo’s comment made rei flush with embarrassment again. she couldn’t believe how rough she was with this gentle, kind boy.

she met his eyes, staring into the deep blue pools.
“it has been gained,” she murmured. something about shylo, not just that he was an angel, told her that he was trustworthy. “let’s go.”

𝖙𝖍𝖊 angelic boy stood, picking up the cup. he'd
been raised well, quite obviously, and was
taught to clean up any mess he made, even if
it was someone elses job to. he figured it made
their life easier anyway and they got paid all
the same, who could it be bothering?

he placed the cup on the counter, directly in
front of one of the very few baristas left in
the shop. "thank you," he smiled brightly as
he thanked her.

he turned to look back at rei, his smile
expanding. "you coming?" he asked, stepping
out of the coffee shop once he reached the
door. assuming that rei was following him,
he continued to speak. "i'm getting the
impression we're going to do homework, and
in order to do that you need yours, do you
want to go get yours from your house?"

rei nodded. "yes, let's go." the unlikely pair bid good night to the baristas, and then stepped out into the brisk evening.
they walked with their faces buried into their collars, puffs of breath billowing out of their mouths as they chatted. they stopped outside of rei' apartment building.

"i'm just going to grab my bag. you can come with me, if you like," rei offered.

𝖓𝖔𝖉𝖉𝖎𝖓𝖌, shylo followed behind rei. he knew
that he most likely shouldn't have, he could
get harmed, or worse, if he said one wrong
thing and she exploded, but he had a bit of
trust in her. maybe that was the angel in
him, or maybe she was worthy of his trust,
he wasn't sure; all he knew was that he
trusted her.

he trailed up the stairs behind her, watching
her long hair sway as he walked.

rei unlocked the door and stepped inside. she didn’t want to pressure shylo into doing anything, so she just left the door open for him. crossing the room, she walked up to her walnut desk and slipped her notebooks into her backpack and slung it over her shoulder.

“alright, i’ve got everything. wait! not everything!” rei ducked into the small kitchen and reappeared ten seconds later with a sleeve of cookies.

“now i’ve got everything,” rei said over the crinkling of the plastic. “humans make the best food sometimes!”

Shylo smiled softly at the mesmerizing demon. "Only sometimes," he said, smiling through his words. "Speaking of human food, what's your favorite?" he asked, solely wanting to bloat about the fact that, ironically enough, he was absolutely in love with the devil's food cake that they made. He'd always wondered if real devils and demons were as savory as the sweet that the humans made.

The smell of the angel's strong cologne filled the air as he moved about, starting his way back down the stairs in Rei's apartment. He was aware of how strong it was and hoped it wasn't bothering Rei too much. In all honesty, he'd spritzed a little too much on that morning. He grabbed the size of his jacket, fanning it back and forth to attempt to get rid of the scent as much as possible so that if they stumbled upon someone with asthma they wouldn't actually die and become either one of them in front of him.

"Sorry," he mumbled, flustered. His cheeks flushed a bright pink as he looked down to the ground in attempt to hide his rosy cheeks.

Rei was already ripping open the sleeve of cookies, and she managed to balance all of her things as she dug the keys out from her pocket to lock the door.

"Oh, I don't know. I love so many things! Egg tarts, cake, cookies, and don't even get me started on ice cream!" Rei laughed.
Human food was somewhat strange. She couldn't get much sustenance from it, so some excess calories here and there didn't matter too much.

Rei giggled as Shylo tried to fan away the scent of his cologne. She had noticed it when she had first plunked her bag down next to him in English class, but she didn't mind it too much. "Don't worry about it," she laughed as Shylo flushed bright pink.

Rei cast the silencing spell around them again as they stepped out into the street.

"I've never had the pleasure of speaking to an angel before," she began. "How did you become one?"

"Well," he began, "Long story short, it was actually terrifying. I died in one of the most terrifying ways I personally can imagine. Sometimes I think everyone just felt a bit bad for the way I died that they made me angel, or gave me the heavenly privilege of being an angel." He chuckled softly. "I was an awful human, I probably deserved the outcome I got. I went to the same school I attend now, but of course I looked different, explaining why no one notices the walking dead guy comes to school everyday. Every time I turn eighteen, in human years, I keep recycling high school, changing my appearance. I guess I can't let go of it. I never got to truly finish it, so I just can't let go. Maybe one day I'll be able to.." he trailed off, realizing he was rambling. He coughed awkwardly, attempting to get back on topic. "I drowned, swim meet, and everyone watched," he said rather quickly, just trying to shut his mouth as soon as possible.

He looked Rei up and down, curiosity and potential events filling his brain. "So how'd you become a demon?" he asked.

Rei listened in shock as Shylo explained his death.
"You...you're dead?" she spluttered. This was hard to wrap her mind around. And Shylo had said that he could change his appearance!

The demon world was certainly different from the angels. "Well," Rei began. "I was actually born to demon parents. Everyone is.
Nobody can die and become a demon; humans pass on to the Afterlife but there is no way for them to access The Underside just by dying. I think that may be why there is such animosity between our...species. When demons die, we just...disappear. We can't ever be angels." Rei racked her brain, trying to remember all the tidbits of history that she had absorbed from her upbringing.

"I suppose all angels were once humans, but we're a completely different species, I guess. Humanoid, but different."
