𝖘𝖍𝖞𝖑𝖔 wasn't dumb. an angel and trusting, maybe, but
not dumb. "i'll tell you as soon as we step outside and
as far away from this place so that i will not be in
danger. i can feel it too, so there's no use in dragging
me no more than three steps away and saying i'm
safe."

he hated being rude and aggressive, but he knew his
eternal-life could potentially be in danger. and he
wasn't ready to let go of that.

"you think that you are in danger?" rei asked, her eyebrows raising. well would you look at that, a suspicious angel. "why are you so eager to leave? are you scared of me?" rei's voice quieted down.

"what other place can we talk where there are no other ears to listen?" she asked.

"𝖎 don't know," he grumbled, "but i'm
not stupid. if i say one wrong thing,
you'd have me gone. either you think
of somewhere else, or i'm leaving."

shylo turned on his heel, not giving
her the opportunity to get rid of him
right then and there, opening the
door. he stepped out and began
walking, or more like jogging, his way
down the flights of stairs.

rei stood in shock as shylo turned and stormed out of her apartment. back at home, nobody left until she dismissed them.

"shylo," rei called, darting out the door after him. he had already disappeared down the stairs: the door was slowly falling back closed. rei jerked it open again and sprinted down the stairs, yelling for him to wait.

she stepped out into the street, but shylo was nowhere to be seen.

𝖘𝖍𝖞𝖑𝖔 stood in the cold, awaiting a bus
to return to his small apartment. his
hands were buried in his hoodie pocket,
freezing, breath showing in the cold
air through a pocket of smoke.

the angel sighed softly, looking at his
breath once more. he pulled his phone
out of his pocket, pulling up the bus
times. noticing the next bus didn't run
for nearly three more hours, he began
to walk home. he could walk home
faster than that.

on his way to his house, however, he
saw a nice little coffee shop. stepping
inside, the warmness greeted him,
drawing him in closer. he ordered a
latte with a fluffy cat drawn on it,
which took forever to arrive, probably
due to the cat on top, and sat down,
deciding he'd stay there for the next
three hours before returning to the
bus stop. he knew he'd get home faster
if he just continued walking, but
the warmness of the rinky dinky coffee
shop drew him in.

rei had returned to her apartment. there was no point in trying to find shylo. sighing, she pulled back her chair and tried to do her homework.

there was no use. the issue of shylo was biting at her and she could not concentrate. rei slammed her notebook shut and then grabbed her purse. a warm coffee and maybe even a sweet treat would comfort her. pulling out her phone, she quickly placed an order for a peach tea and a slice of banana bread.

rei shrank deeper into her long coat, trying to hide her face from the nippy wind. after several minutes of walking, she finally arrived at the coffee shop. pushing open the door, she hurried inside.

rei stood for a moment at the door, unraveling her scarf from around her face. she walked up to the counter, where her steaming tea and warm bread was waiting. she was about to leave again when she saw something that almost made her drop her food in shock.

shylo was sitting at a table alone, his eyes closed as he breathed in the aroma of a latte with a foam cat on top. rei silently walked up to him and placed her cup in front of him, startling him.

𝖏𝖚𝖒𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖌 slightly at the clink from rei's
cup, shylo opened his eyes quickly to
see who had sat down. when he saw rei,
his smile faded, but he quickly regained
a fake one.

"listen," he began, his fingers rubbing
along the brim of his coffee cup placed
between each hand, "i didn't mean to
be rude or anything, but you've got to
give me some credit. smart enough not
to fall into a trap you've set up. it was
quite easy to detect, really." he sipped
his latte, foam getting on his upper lip.
he licked it off, missing a bit though.
"i'm fine talking anywhere but in the
realm of where you can harm me, and
out of respect for you i won't drag
you to where i can harm you."

he was reasonable but stubborn and stern.
he wasn't changing his mind about this,
it was set. he knew she could harm
him if he stepped foot there again, and
he was sure she knew the same about
his territory.

he gave her a soft smile, the foam
still resting above his top lip.

rei smiled a little bit. shylo looked so goofy with the frothy foam on his lip. she slipped into the chair and sat facing him.

"i apologize for that. i have never faced this type of situation, or even been briefed on what to do in this case. and it wasn't a trap. i just wanted to be in a place where i could defend myself or..." rei's voice trailed off as she realized how terrifying the situation must have been for shylo.

"i'm sorry," she said. "i will never try to do anything like that again," she awkwardly stared down at her cup.

"but we do need to talk."

"𝖔𝖍 i am more than aware we need to
talk," he said, picking up his cup once
more to sip. more foam met his upper
lip, and he sighed, wiping it all off
with his jacket sleeve. he'd given
up on being neat and clean with it.
"i don't suggest getting this at all," he
said with a chuckle in attempt to
lighten the mood.

realizing they had more serious
things to talk about, he sat the cup
down, hands in his lap. "where do
you suggest we talk?"

[size=90]rei giggled as the foam on shylo's latte collected on his lip. she held up her peach tea. "i would recommend this, then. no foam," she joked.

shylo rested his hands on his lap. yes, there were more serious things to talk about. but they couldn't go back to her apartment, and the coffee shop was small. suddenly, rei had an idea. but she would need shylo's permission and trust to do it.

"shylo," she began. "we can stay right here, but i need you to trust me, okay? we need to be touching hands for this to work." rei nervously looked down at her cup again. "i know you have no reason to trust me, but..." she trailed off.
