I live in an extremely hot place with a couple of cons during the summer that I'm considering suiting at, but I'm wondering if there's anything I should buy ahead of time that could help me keep from overheating.
First of all, as someone who suited in ~100 degree weather before, if you need a break, take it. Your health is more important than 'ruining the magic' and you don't want to be the person passing out from heat stroke. Ambulances and fire trucks aren't uncommon appearances at fur cons for a reason. We had atleast 3 fire trucks, 1 ambulance, and 1 police car show up this past MFF.
A balaclava for wearing under your head is recommended, even if the head is lined it will help keep sweat from getting in your suit head. My sister is more sensitive to the heat than I am and she also has arm sleeves that keep her cool under the fursuit arms. You could also just go with an under armor shirt under whatever you're wearing with the suit. Under armor heat gear is meant to keep you cool and it comes in a variety of clothing.
A fan inside your fursuit head and/or a portable one you can use easily in suit is also great to keep you cool. I have both kinds and they're both good, its just personal preference and if you have room for a fan in your head(resin heads are easier for mounting a fan inside).
And lastly, water! Fur cons should have lots of water stations throughout, but it's not bad to also bring your own water bottle just in case. You will sweat a lot in your suit, so it's important to make sure you drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
