Breezefire sat alone one night. She thought deeply of one cat in particular, Firefeather. A noise in the bushes spooked her. She jumped and turned to face the bush.
"Wow you scared me for a moment," she said to the killer.

"Yea you've been busy all day. With the kits and that. Want a bite to eat?" The killer asked. Breezefire nodded. The killer got up staring menacingly at the medicine cat apprentice. They chose a piece of prey for them. They sat beside Breezefire and dropped the piece of prey.

Breezefire smiled and took a bite of the prey. She felt her throat tighten up. Her eyes widened as she stared at the killer. She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. She collapsed and convulsed before she left for star clan.

Firefeather had seen her collapse. "How could you!" He hissed. The killer smirked.

"She was mousebrained," they said. "She.." they were cut off by Firefeather leaping at them. They moved quickly before leaping on Firefeather. Firefeather heaved only to get the killers weight on his windpipe. He choked and squirmed until he grew weak and finally gave in and blacked out. He died quietly that night and the killer returned to their nest a smile laid on their face

Stoatheart awoke slowly, his eyes adjusting to the dim lit den. He glanced around, seeing everyone asleep. Well, almost everyone. He yawned and stared at Firefeather's nest, confusion stirring in his chest. The quiet tom generally did not get up early, so it was strange that his nest was empty.
Stoatheart shrugged his shoulders and stepped outside, a rancid smell hitting his nose instantly. His gaze locked on to the two bodies which lay in the middle of camp. His heart caught in his throat, recognizing the ginger tom and the white she. Firefeather and Breezefire.
"W-what-" He stammered, his paws beginning to shake. He stood there for a moment, frozen with shock.

"Reedpelt- Reedpelt something's happened!"

Silverkit woke up, hearing Stoatheart. Glancing over at her denmate, she smiled when she saw Magpiekit still asleep. "Something's going on," she hissed to the young tom, before heading out of the nursery. "What's going on?" the kit asked, looking up at the warrior.

The young tom looked over to the kit, and surprise and anxiety filled through him. He quickly moved in front of the kit to block her view, and faked a smile as best as he could.
"Nothing's going on, Silverkit. Why don't you go back to the nursery, okay? It's something to do with the.." he turned and looked back, trying to figure out something to say "...fresh-kill pile. The hunting patrol hasn't come b-back yet."

Reedpelt, despite what might be expected of a rather large cat, was not the deepest sleeper. Though he could sleep through small sounds and cats coming and going, hearing his name said with such urgency got through to him, even asleep. The brown-and-black tom's eats twitched when he heard Stoatheart calling his name, and he lifted his head slowly, blinking the sleep out of his amber eyes. He sat up and got to his feet, taking a moment to remove scraps of moss from his fur and smooth it out a bit, before he calmly left the warrior's den- only to stop dead, eyes widening and fur rising. Two cats lay in the clearing- and both of them were dead. It was Breezefire and Firefeather!

The warrior dashed over to where they lay. Normally, he was calm... but this wasn't normal. "Starclan, no..." he said softly, ears laying flat against his head. From up close... it looked like they'd been murdered! For Breezefire's mouth was slightly open, and he could see a glint of red that wasn't blood. "Deathberries," he murmured, shaking his head, unable to believe it. Breezefire would never have eaten deathberries on her own. Ever. Firefeather's mouth was gaping open, as if he'd been gasping for breath, and his throat... Reedpelt felt sick. His throat was crushed. And the worst part? A cat had done this. A cat in their clan. There was no smells other than bitter death, the pungent scent of crushed deathberries, and Riverclan.

Abruptly, Reedpelt turned away from where Stoatheart stood, trying to keep Silverkit in the den. He blinked rapidly to keep tears at bay, throat closing up with grief. He didn't want the younger cats to see how distressed he was. He was always the calm, levelheaded one; Stoatheart would likely turn to him for advice. But who he really needed to turn to was the leader. The big tom padded slowly over to the leader's den, head hung low. "Foxstar," he rasped, trying to make his voice loud enough for him to hear. "Wake up... Clanmates are dead!"
