Rarities are updated roughly every 1-2 months^^ But pets don't get their rarities while they are still up for adoption, so the easter pets won't be getting theirs for a while.
That said, as a rule of thumb you can safely assume that every token-bought pet will be uncommon or rare. There's only been one instance of a token pet instantly turning very rare so far, and none of any turning common.

We typically get different species throughout the event, but we do always get a lot of bunnies, so you can definitely look forward to seeing more of them c:

Usually the token pets are rabbits and mystery boxes. So far the token rabbits have all been rare and the token boxes usually have uncommons and rares. As for the free stuff it's usually commons and very commons and maybe even an uncommon. As for species they can be just about anything, only time will tell

what are your opinions on people asking for 2009 rares in return for a single egg? I've come across two of these threads so far, i don't know if they're new or just trying to scam others.

So far the token rabbits have all been rare and the token boxes usually have uncommons and rares.

The bunnies can turn out uncommon, too, and have done so plenty of times^^
There's even a bunny from 2011 that's still uncommon.
They are, however, more prone to ending up rare. You know exactly what you get when you trade in your tokens for them, so a lot of people don't buy extras (not everyone can afford grabbing extras in the first place, and people are more likely to spend their excess tokens on the mystery boxes).
But every once in a while some bunnies are popular enough to be traded for a lot, and then we do get uncommons.

(Worth mentioning that some of the bunnies from past years did start out uncommon and have simply changed rarities since then.)
