Feather tails are a species similar to a fox, with feathers for tails.
Feather tails live in the forest of Penketh, in small groups called packs. These packs can be anywhere
from 2 to 20 FT's, mostly related, but doesn't have to be. •This species only bonds in MxF pairs. In the
wild, Ft's mate for life, and can only breed with their mate. Baby Ft's are called quills. They receive
their Jars when they are a week of age, and the color seems to choose them. No one quite knows where
these orbs come from, only that they are filled with the life force of the individual and must, therefore,
be protected.

You come across a feather tailed wolf who is blue and yellow. It appears to have a scaled
underbelly, but at a closer look, you notice that it's just fur markings.

Why is the orb cracked? (500 word limit): The fox-like creature slipped through the ferns, ignoring the cold dew that brushed onto his pelt. He crouched down, disappearing into the undergrowth. This wasn't the first time he was alone in the forest. He paused for a minute, wondering if he should go back to his friend. No. The pack must be fed.
He came to the edge of the bushes and hanging ferns. Ahead of him was a small clearing, where the grass was lush and long. The Feather-tail poked his head out between some baby ferns. A plump rabbit was nibbling some new shoots, it's head buried in the grass. He noticed it's movements were stiff, and the flecks of grey speckled throughout it's ragged pelt. A easy catch for even a older quill. He drew himself forward, his paws making next to no sound as he crept up on his oblivious prey.
Suddenly, a bone-chilling howl split the silence.
The rabbit bounded away, surprising fast for such a elderly one, as another howl erupted from the depths of the forest. "Just great! I don't even have a reason to be out here now!" the Feather-tail growled, glaring at where the prey had fled through the ferns. But, his anger was short-lived as fear settled over him. The howls was getting closer. Ears pricked, and tail feathers trembling, he padded out of the clearing.
The howls faded to silence, but, he could scent a strange smell underneath the tang of debri. A twig snapped behind him. He spun around, the fur on his hackles bristling. A russet feather slipped out of sight, followed by a quiet growl.
A loud, challenging gekker rose from the bushes behind him. "Hello, Kyuro."
A ginger, muscular feather-tail emerged from the brush, his yellow tail feathers unkempt, dull and torn. He was followed by a lithe, pale pink female with blue, sharp edged feathers. A brown one came from behind a tree, his russet feathers twitching with anticipation. Kyuro turned tail, his heart thumping. The intruders gave chase. I should of offered- He was brought back to reality by a sharp pain. the ginger male had rammed into his shoulder. He let out a yip of surprise as he stumbled, which was cut off as the pink feather-tail sunk her teeth into his shoulder, over-balancing him, and he crashed to the ground. Soon she was on top of Kyuro, pinning him down with amazing strength. She pressed her claws gently onto his throat. "Hush. One cry for help, and... Well, you should know." Her voice was silky, and soft, yet, had a air of authority and control. He only whimpered, shrinking beneath her gaze.
A jolt of pain spread through his body. He cried out, his eyes watering. He flailed on the ground, underneath the rival Feather-tail as the pain increased. A darkness crept around the edges of his mind. He managed to lift his head. The russet male had Kyuro's orb on the ground, his jaws clamped over it. He kept on biting harder until crack filled the air. He screeched, before falling unconcious.
And that was how his orb was cracked. I had to remove a lot of the detail in order for it to meet the guidelines, but it still ended up a little longer than 500. Hope that's alright.
