Adrian D'Arc I Human I Blade Team Operative I Tag; Kat
"I'm more interested in that girl who shot us," D'Arc replied grimly, too nervous to take his eyes off of the road in the icy conditions but concerned enough about his teammate to reach back and offer a hand for her to take.
"If she can nearly kill two of us in the weather, then she's good. Not a patch on us, let alone Goof Street, but definitely good for a civilian. She's been trained. That means there's probably more like her, and despite the fact that they wouldn't send anybody but one of their best against us on their own, in all likelihood some of the others are just as good if not better. And what bothers me the most is how they knew we were a threat with enough certainty to try to pick us off, or are reckless enough to try without knowing the facts. We're in civilian clothing, in civilian vehicles."
He shook his head and sighed weakly. Not defeated, but far angrier than he'd ever let on.
"But you, you know what? We've learned. They can shift at will. They clearly do have both heightened senses and a greater size than a true wolf. They're faster than the average wolf. And silver bullets are effective."
He paused.
"And you got that guy's license plate, right? We can get the Intel boys to run that, and let them know that one of our targets escaped with serious injuries caused by silver bullets. You remember exactly if and where you hit her? We can give the feds the details and have them keep an eye on statewide hospital admissions and police callouts. The moment she goes for help, or somebody finds her collapsed and calls help for her, we move in, verify we've got the right one and arrest her. I'm sure the science boys would like to meet her. I know I'd certainly like to have a word in her ear."
Theodore Ford I Human I Blade Operative I Tags; Aurora
The last assault finally brought him down. Boots slipping on the snow the skirmish had compacted into ice, he went down with a thud and knew, in that moment, he was going to die.
Teddy tried to think what D'Arc would do in this situation, but his brain wouldn't function. He couldn't take his eyes off the beast's bared teeth as he frantically tried to scramble backwards.
He wouldn't let himself get into a situation like this to start with, that's what!
He could kill a running man from two miles away, hack his way into strong security systems and even drive a tank, but wasn't trained to fight a slavering mutt the size of a small bear. They'd been sent in by a panicking government, and they hadn't been properly briefed at all. Just handed a million-dollar stock pile of equipment created on the basis that most legends stemmed from a truth and thrown into the arena. Well, now they were paying the price.
Trembling, he raised the knife and leaned back against the truck, aware of the cold breeze caressing his now-exposed lower face and throat. His visor had fogged up. He fumbled to push it up onto his helmet's brim, but his fingers were numb despite the gloves.
With any luck, he wouldn't feel much when it decided to finish toying with him and end it, either.
"Back off!" He spat. A futile, last ditch attempt to save himself. "My friends will be here any minute now!"
Emmelene Castellanos I Werewolf I Hunter I Tags; Jason, Mark, Luka, Skylar, Adam
She rushed forward to grab the massive wolfhound, but it took every inch of her enhanced strength to force it away from its mistress and out of the infirmary. Although part of her wanted to object - she wasn't a child, even if she didn't mind being referred to as one at times, she didn't want to get caught up in that particular argument. She wouldn't choose between Adam and Mark.
Though that didn't mean she didn't want to hear what was being said.
She shoved the dog out of the door and shut it quickly, then crept into the kitchen - which, she knew, shared a wall with the infirmary - and grabbed a glass from the cupboard nearest the door.
