bucky was sitting up, though it probably didn't look like he was. he was doubled over, trying to catch his breath. when he heard Zelda at the door, he couldn't respond because he couldn't breathe, and all of his limbs felt like lead weights, so he just sat there.

zelda rushed to his side and gently put her hand on his soldier. "bucky, it's me.."

bucky was suddenly very glad that his body had decided he was immobile, because if he had been able to move he probably would have shoved zelda away on reflex. instead he sat still and continued to try and get his breathing under control.

"buck, you're doing a good job, keep breathing." she started breathing with him like her mother used to do when she had panic attacks.

it took him a little while, but he was eventually able to get his breathing back to an okay rhythm

zelda carefully ran her hand up and down bucky's back looking at him with concern. "Do you want to talk about it?"

bucky shook his head, leaning into her slightly. he swallowed in an attempt to get more moisture into his throat.

zel let him lean into her. "whatever happened, know that you're safe." she whispered while continuing to rub his back.

bucky closed his eyes and sighed softly, listening to her heartbeat

zelda began to hum an old beatles song running her finger through bucky's hair.
