The weather had been getting colder, and for many clans this could pose an issue but Dappleclan's location in the midst of the desert meant that this time of year was a welcome relief from the overbearing heat.

Lionstar was amazed at how quickly his clan began to grow once new members had been recruited from the local cats, especially with two Dappleclan females currently pregnant. His mind was already filled with imaginings of the kittens that would soon be underfoot.

He tried to tend to Snowfoot as much as he could. She was so shy sometimes, he wondered how he had ever ended up her mate. She was usually tired from the heat but now that the weather was cooling off, he saw that she tended to be tired in general, and it may have more to do with constitution than environment.

Frostwing and Feathercurl were absolutely delighted. Their little bundles of joy would be the first to arrive in this territory, so they'd have the added advantage of being the 'eldest sons and daughters' of the entire clan.

The two newest clan members were stirring up a little romance of their own. Mosslake was a stunning experienced queen with brilliant green eyes and a two-tone face. Ravenbones was a very small, although very tough, slim black cat with eyes that matches hers in brightness and intensity of color. The two flirted so often, clan members joked that they should have gone off and started their own clan, but neither of the two had much interest in power, though Ravenbones as prone to vengeful and mischevious moods.

Sagestar returned and a bunch of cats were shocked that he did not bring any others. In truth Sgaestar made the others cross into the poison mountains and chased a few that refused. He managed to kill two cats as well before going to Moonstone. There he asked Starclan to revive him and they said they would in exchange for the truth to be told and for a paw full of his lives. He agreed but did not keep his promise and did not tell a single cat the truth of what had happened.

The smell of smoke is in the distance from a camp fire that the two legs share in the meadow, currently the meadow is off limits as well as the abandoned horse pasture just beyond the meadow border.

the four cats return to their camp, tired from their journey. lounging in their camp is a she-cat,
gracefully licking her fur as if no one entered. soon, she looked up, fear and defensiveness evident
in her eyes. "who are you?" she hisses, eyes landing on the group. craggstar
steps forwards, valiant as usual, and introduces himself softly. leopardrunner follows after, and then reluctantly,
twigpelt and briarhop introduce themselves as well. the she-cat's hackles lower, and she lets out a weary sigh.
"oh thank the gods - thought you'd all be some sort of murdering clan, you know?" she lets
out a weak laugh. humoring her, craggstar laughs with her. "uh, my name's honeywhisker," she finally
says, dipping her head. the rest of the clan repeats, and honeywhisker is accepted into the fold.

a few days later, whilst on patrol, honeywhisker scents something odd. "it's very..."
she struggles to find the words. "robust," she finishes her report in craggstar's prescense,
and the leader nods. "right," he answers, deep in thought. "mountain lions?" he asks his deputy,
who was sitting in the corner of the rocky den, eyes narrowed to slits. "maybe," answers the savannah tom.

another day or so later, honestclan awakes to a hulking figure lounging in their camp, gracefully licking their paw. they look up,
and greet craggstar with a toothy smile. "good morn', clanners. i am azrael, the messenger of the lions." they say, dipping their head to
craggstar, he dips his head as well, awed by the creature in front of him. "i come bearing gifts, you'll
find them at the edge of your western territory. enjoy it." with that, the lion stands and exits, leaping over the rocky
mountain edge. briarhop follows to the edge giddily, watching as he sped away.

"maybe we should check it out," comments leopardrunner, that afternoon, whilst on patrol
with honeywhisker and briarhop. "and walk straight into a deathtrap? yeah, no thanks," honeywhisker
snarks, scenting a tree. briarhop rolls her eyes and gives leopardrunner a sweet smile. "don't listen to
her, leopard. i think it's a wonderful idea," she purrs, brushing their pelts together. leopardrunner's pelt grows
hot when the other she-cat's whiskers twitch and she fights back the urge to laugh. clearing his throat, the deputy pushes forwards.

★ gloam = the time of day immediately following sunset.
gloamclan consists of cats that worship their ancestors m
ore than the average clan does. they are considered relig
ious and believe in what they believe, having yearly celeb
rations in honor the gods and goddesses above. they do n
ot tolerate disrespect and will retaliate disapprovingly.

the kodama forest consists of a bunch of man-made pools,
in which are believed to be where the ancestors roam. th
cat spirits are called bakeneko (化け猫), which means cha
nged cats. the bakeneko are believed to be harmless spiri
ts, mostly friendly and some others neutral. it is believed
to be evil bakeneko roaming the forest as well, causing ha
voc wherever they go. evil bakeneko are rare, however, a
nd are said to mostly appear at night or at dusk. there is o
ne major pool called yume's pool, which is where the lead
er of the clan goes to speak to the ancestors alone or ask
for a new member for their clan. yume (夢) means dream
in japanese. yume's pool is said to consist of water called
yawarakai (柔らかい) mizu (水), which means soft water.
the soft water is not to be drank, even though it is said to
be the finest tasting water, and may cause misfortune or e
ven death to the cat that drinks it.

gloamclan resides in a japanese forest once touched by ma
nkind. it is called the kodama (木魅) forest, which means
forest of spirits. the kodama forest is dark and mysterious,
only about of inch of sunlight makes it in through the tall
trees. it is the perfect place to hunt and many prey reside
there. the kodama forest consists of huge gardens, in whi
ch some are owned and some are abandoned. the people
that live there are not considered worrisome to gloamclan
and mostly do not care about their residence, they seem t
o be happy that they live there. as expected, there are a l
ot of house cats or kittypets living with their owners in the
se gardens, and as expected, they do wander from their ho
mes from time to time, most of them being outdoor cats in
stead of indoor cats. house cats sometimes end up in gloam
clan, considering most live outside and are used to indepen
dent life. ironically, most house cats worship their ancestor
s as well, just like the cats of gloamclan.

cats in gloamclan are considered to be highly reclusive, re
maining unknown to others. they are not exactly shy, but t
hey aren't social to outsiders neither. they do have relation
ships with those in their clan, enemies, friends, or love int
erest, or just family. they are highly protective over those
they love and will stand by their sides at every moment. g
loam clan also has ceremonies for the death of a clan-mat
e and usually hold a long vigil at night on the day of that c
at's death. as for celebrations, the clan usually has one eve
ry twelve moons, and is usually in newleaf or leaffall. they
celebrate new life in newleaf and prepare for bare-leaf in l
eaffall, bare-leaf is considered the season of ancestors.

During leafbare, the chances of catching illness is higher, especially if you send the same cat out multiple times in the same post. After your cat catches a cold, don't send them out for two posts or their cold may progress to whitecough or greencough. You will also catch less prey and are less likely to find new cats.

Dustleaf sighed. "Starclan can't influence the living world," she replied. "All they can do is give some advice and hope that we can follow through."

"Why?"

"That's just how things work."

Dustleaf smiled. She remembered her kittenhood following Crowcloud around the den. Larkkit had taken to doing the same thing and he had been a big help, getting her various herbs and delivering messages around the camp when she needed them. If he was still interested after a few moons of warrior training, she would be glad to have an apprentice like him. "Remember that first you'll be a warrior apprentice," she reminded him, "so that we know for sure that you're willing to commit. Because it means that you can't make your own family; the clan becomes your family."

"Isn't it already my family?"

Dustleaf laughed softly, conscious of Honeystar's quiet wheezes behind her. Patchcloud had died a few days before and his burial had been a somber affair. Honeystar had lost another life and was now recovering in the privacy of the medicine cats' den. "Not in that way," Dustleaf said. "It means that you'll never be able to be a father or have a mate, because looking towards Starclan is far more important for a medicine cat and attachments like kits or a mate might make it harder for you to understand what the ancestors are saying."

"Oh." Larkkit fell quiet, thinking. Dustleaf knew that she would make the same decision every time, but the kit needed some space to think if this was truly to be his path.

"I'm scared," murmured Neritestream. "I've never encountered a badger before."

Ashstripe's voice was flat. "They're very dangerous. Dawnstorm, Grayfur, Acornstream, and Bramblebush lost their lives fighting one. One. Be very careful in this fight."

"We'll be alright," said Aspentail, forcing cheeriness into his voice. "I swear it."

Oakheart paced as he talked. "Honeystar has been nothing but a failure from the start," he said quietly but forcefully. "The one great achievement she has accomplished is building this clan. Beyond that, nothing. Look around you." Several pairs of bright eyes stared. "Honeystar allowed a fire to consume the camp. She claimed to lead us to safety yet let the river take more. She allowed Smokefur to spread her illness and Patchcloud has died because of it."

Bramblingwhisker took a shuddering breath. "He was..." Too young. Too innocent. My brother. My clanmate. Nothing would come out.

Oakheart flicked his ears. "Precisely. Use your anger to your benefit. We will need to convince the rest to depose Honeystar and her useless deputy. If Dustleaf won't turn, she too will be useless."

"But who will be our medicine cat?" asked Swancloud, confused. "Won't we get sick and die?"

"When I'm leader," assured Oakheart, "I will tell Starclan to send us a new medicine cat loyal to me."

Fritillarynose had followed Oakheart out of curiosity, but now she wasn't sure how much she liked him. Loyalty to him. Not to Starclan or the Warrior Code. To him. Brightfang and Tipnose nodded, determined. They were still upset over their brother's death and had turned their anger to hatred for Honeystar's inability to do anything. She herself had gotten sick! they had argued. Wasn't that enough to prove that their once-invincible leader should now step down? Gannetstorm had cautiously agreed but like Fritillarynose, clearly wasn't sold. The two mollies looked at each other. Whatever was to come, it would shake the clan and change it forever.

Smoketail led they way into camp backwards, the neck of a small roe deer doe in his jaws, while Rowanstep following shortly behind, a leg in his mouth.
"What is this?!" Smoketail dropped the deer and jumped around at Roestar's angry voice. Roestar was standing behind him, his eyes blazing. Smoketail opened his mouth to speak, but Rowanstep beat him to it.
"It's a deer, what'sit look like?" Roestar obviously wasn't pleased with this answer. He stepped forward so his nose was almost against Rowanstep's.
"You both know the rules about hunting deer. You are not to hunt them without permission and without at least six cats with you." Rowanstep yawned.
"We didn't need six cats-" Roestar's eyes blazed.
"I don't care how many cats you 'need'," his voice was filled with venom, "it's six cats, or no deer."
Sootwind came up and nudged Roestar out of the way, facing Rowanstep.
"Daisyflight wants to see you." Rowanstep flashed Roestar an almost smug look, and followed Sootwind. Smoketail lowered his head as Roestar glanced back towards him, but all the leader did was pad towards the deer.
"Let's get this to the prey-pile." Smoketail only nodded. He noticed a white tom watching them from a distance, and glanced up at Roestar in confusion.
"New warrior, his name is Branchgaze." Roestar said simply.

Weather: The blanket of snow that covers the ground has grown larger, it now reaches the shoulders of most cats and covers the others. Prey has grown even harder to find and due to the cold sickness is easier to catch. Kittings are a bit complicated now and there is a high chance that queens will die. Predators are luckily not out in this weather but cold and hungry cats may be found in your territory.

gloamclan consists of cats that worship their ancestors m
ore than the average clan does. they are considered relig
ious and believe in what they believe, having yearly celeb
rations in honor the gods and goddesses above. they do n
ot tolerate disrespect and will retaliate disapprovingly.

the kodama forest consists of a bunch of man-made pools,
in which are believed to be where the ancestors roam. th
cat spirits are called bakeneko (化け猫), which means cha
nged cats. the bakeneko are believed to be harmless spiri
ts, mostly friendly and some others neutral. it is believed
to be evil bakeneko roaming the forest as well, causing ha
voc wherever they go. evil bakeneko are rare, however, a
nd are said to mostly appear at night or at dusk. there is o
ne major pool called yume's pool, which is where the lead
er of the clan goes to speak to the ancestors alone or ask
for a new member for their clan. yume (夢) means dream
in japanese. yume's pool is said to consist of water called
yawarakai (柔らかい) mizu (水), which means soft water.
the soft water is not to be drank, even though it is said to
be the finest tasting water, and may cause misfortune or e
ven death to the cat that drinks it.

gloamclan resides in a japanese forest once touched by ma
nkind. it is called the kodama (木魅) forest, which means
forest of spirits. the kodama forest is dark and mysterious,
only about of inch of sunlight makes it in through the tall
trees. it is the perfect place to hunt and many prey reside
there. the kodama forest consists of huge gardens, in whi
ch some are owned and some are abandoned. the people
that live there are not considered worrisome to gloamclan
and mostly do not care about their residence, they seem t
o be happy that they live there. as expected, there are a l
ot of house cats or kittypets living with their owners in the
se gardens, and as expected, they do wander from their ho
mes from time to time, most of them being outdoor cats in
stead of indoor cats. house cats sometimes end up in gloam
clan, considering most live outside and are used to indepen
dent life. ironically, most house cats worship their ancestor
s as well, just like the cats of gloamclan.

cats in gloamclan are considered to be highly reclusive, re
maining unknown to others. they are not exactly shy, but t
hey aren't social to outsiders neither. they do have relation
ships with those in their clan, enemies, friends, or love int
erest, or just family. they are highly protective over those
they love and will stand by their sides at every moment. g
loam clan also has ceremonies for the death of a clan-mat
e and usually hold a long vigil at night on the day of that c
at's death. as for celebrations, the clan usually has one eve
ry twelve moons, and is usually in newleaf or leaffall. they
celebrate new life in newleaf and prepare for bare-leaf in l
eaffall, bare-leaf is considered the season of ancestors.

azreal's gift left a mighty impact on the clan - with more food and more warriors to patrol the borders. craggstar
wouldn't stop smiling for the next week, as he watched two ready to be apprenticed kits tumble outside the nursery.
"you look pleased," comments leopardrunner, with a twitch of his whiskers. craggstar whips
around, glowing in the morning light "how could i not be?" he says, excitement
evident in his voice. "we're thriving! the old clan could never be this prosperous, this... this beautiful!"
craggstar adds, and he watches sadness seep onto leopardrunner's face face, as he looks out on the small family of four gathering in the center of camp. "leopard?" a voice pipes. whisked out of his daze, leopardrunner turns to face his leader, all of craggstar's happiness replaced with concern for his old friend. "yeah...?" he asks, softly. "silvermask and riverkit would want you to thrive. to move on. it's okay." says
craggstar, the edge of his pelt brushing against his other. leopardrunner nods, quickly pressing against him
before leaving. "i'll go arrange patrols," and briskly walks off.

evening settles, and so does the clan. before craggstar can speak to his deputy, leopardrunner whisks into
the combatant's den, murmuring about being tired. briarhop follows quickly after, determination sparking
in her eyes. craggstar, watches, silent, and lets them go.

the somewhere in the den leaks, and the deputy makes noting of patching it up. "leopardrunner?" asks
briarhop, soft, cautious. he nods in the darkness, eyes glinting. she presses closer, gently, just as cautious.
"who's silvermask?" she asks, looking up at the tom. he freezes, suddenly cold. "were you eavesdropping?" he snaps, and briarhop recoils, not expecting the change. "i'm sorry...i," she starts but the savannah tom glances away, frowning. "i want to know, i care about you leopard. ever since
we've met." she states, placing her nose on his cheek. softening, his shoulders snag, sadness crosses his features,
and briarhop cringes at her mistake. "she is...was my mate. a long time ago. we had a daughter," he
starts, voice wavering. "they both were, are, the most beautiful cats i've ever met. " his voice
wavers again, and he stops, regaining himself. briarhop sucks in a breath, anticipating. "i left, a very bad
position with them, to start our own life - but it didn't work out. they're both gone." he swallows, dryly, casting
a forlorn glance at briarhop. she purrs, reasuring like, the sound resonating through the tom. "then, i met
craggstar. he was craggtail at the time - looking for people to start a clan. it took awhile for the two of us to actually get
ourselves together - we spent much of our youth with just each other." he says, now relaxed, smiling in
the dimly lit den upon fond memories. he spins a tale - many tales of him and craggtail, young and chipper,
the only things to their name was each other. "maybe...it's time to find someone else?"
briarhop suggests, pressed to his side. the deputy sucks in a breath, glancing down at her. "you mean -"
he starts, "just...give us a try. please," she begs, eyes glittering with hope. "silvermask and riverkit would want you to move on," she breaths, and leopardrunner nods,
pressing his nose to briarhop's. "okay. we can try."

"from this moment forwards, i pronounce you both graypaw and rockypaw, apprentices to leopardrunner and honeywhisker. kits no longer - may our ancestors bless your journey!" craggstar finishes, and the clan shouts
out with glee - charcoalpelt and flowerskip the loudest. "and once you return from the day's training -
a feast!" the shouts begin once more, louder than ever. they resonate throughout the cave, shaking the stalagmites
above. craggstar leaps from his ledge, watching his small clan, his family mill about. leopardrunner approaches him,
weary, unsure. "i made you a mentor," he says, excitedly, but leopardrunner only smiles a
little, it withers away as quick as it came. unnoticing, craggstar leans up to press against his closest friend, but the deputy
pulls away. "briarhop and i...we've become mates." says leopardrunner, and craggstar's
world slows. it's like molasses, the way he processes his deputy's words. slow. gradual. too long. "craggstar?
did you hear me? it's like you said earlier... i, i need to move on. you'll always be my best friend." the deputy
walks away, leaving craggstar alone.
