Season: Winter

The long winter is finally coming to an end. The harsh weather is gone and the heavy snowstorms have passed. Old Dog Winter is waving bye to the kennels with a light snowfall. The dogs sense that Spring is coming closer. Prey are still hard to find as they are still slumbering.

Iris walks to the ancestral meeting place with Rexx. He brought her along to show her where in the territory the ancestors can be heard the most. He was quiet the whole way. She asks "Do the ancestors ever answer you?"
The brute answers "Not directly. Usually they will send a dog to the kennel within a few days of my requests."
"Do you only ask for dogs?"
"Mainly, yes. But I also ask them for guidance sometimes. If I need help making a crucial decision for the kennel, I will usually ask the ancestors for their guiding opinions. We are here. Now we must bow our heads and prey."
Iris sits next to Rexx and the two alphas bow their heads.
Rexx says "Great ancestors. I am beyond pleased that you have led my new alpha female to my kennel. You have never steered me wrong and I trust in your guidance. I humbly ask that you send another kappa to join our pack and make it grow even stronger."
Iris adds "Ancestors, I pray that as spring makes it's way to the valley, prey will be abundant and dogs will come from all around. Under your watchful eye the Thunder Valley Pack will continue to flourish."
As Iris opened her eyes, she noticed that Rexx was looking right at her. "What?"
He smiled. "You are a true alpha. I didn't expect you to be so good at talking to the ancestors."
"Well, I have had my rounds with consoling them. How do you think I even found this kennel. I asked the ancestors to bring me to a place where I was destined to be."
The two walk back to camp.
[The hunting patrol catch the scent of elk passing through the territory. Send a patrol of 6 dogs with no taus to bring it down.]

Ancestor visit: today

((Hey! I'm continuing with my kennel from v.1. This was my last post.
amythest14 was my mod c:))

"All dogs old enough to catch their own prey, gather before the Fallen One for a pack meeting!" Ares's loud bark echoed over the clearing, making muzzles lift from their work and a flood of whispers to erupt among the gathered dogs. The snow settled on the thick coats of the Night Callers as they sat expectantly. Ares stood on the mighty fallen tree, his claws digging into the bark. "Night Callers, as you know, there is a threat lurking along our borders. A pack of rogues that means the move in on our territory." His ear turned when he heard Bello growl in his throat. The beta had been anxious about the meeting all day, but Ares knew it was only because he wanted the pack safe. He continued, "I know many of you want to confront them, but we must wait. The weather will claim us before they do."

"Anteros," The light brown dog's ears pricked and he got to his paws. "Take a hunting patrol to the North border. Take Athena and Eros with you. Anteros nodded shortly and began out of camp, his patrol following close behind. Eros had his ears pinned against his head and there was a nervous glint in his eyes. He was most affected, seeing as the threat he had just heard about was his brother. Athena was practically bouncing at Anteros, ready to go. A burst of pride filled Ares as he watched his former tenderpaw go off on her first hunt as a irontooth.

"Nike, Bello," Nike's large ears swiveled and she slowly got to her paws as Bello padded over to her. "Hunt along the West Border. Keep away from the East, but if you run into trouble, don't hesitate." He warned them. The large beta woofed and bounded away, kicking up snow. Nike was close behind him with a much more graceful stride.

The meeting ended as Ares let out a throaty howl and the crowd dispersed quickly. Ares jumped off the tree trunk, landing gracefully in the powdery snow. He padded towards the nursery and was met by Diana, who had just exited. She looked tired from delivering the first litter of Night Caller pups. His pups. The shaman let out a deep breath and dipped her head. "She is resting. I wouldn't bother her right now...she is still recovering." She said quietly before passing the alpha. Her tail lingered on his shoulder for a brief second, offering her sympathies. The two pups they had lost, Jasper and Della, had also been the first Callers to die, a title he wishes they hadn't received. Enyo lay with her eyes closed in one of the bests, her flank rising and falling softly. She didn't move when he approached her, so he stepped back to look at his pups. Agenta, the largest pup, was hungrily pawing her way over her siblings with little squeaks of annoyance as she did. She would no doubt be mentored by Eros, who was among the kennel's best fighters. Ajax let out a little "ruff" of anger and batted at her swinging tail. The smallest, Basia, was content to curl closer to her mother as she suckled. Never in Ares's life would he have imagined this would happen.

After exiting the den, he took Deimos hunting near the South border before making the trip up to Moonstone. It had been too long since he had gone to speak with his ancestors. While in his dream, he saw Della and Jasper playing under the watchful eye of a starry mother dog. Sadness gripped him tightly, but he had a duty to perform. "Ancestors, I apologize that I haven't come to see you sooner. Thank you for three healthy pups and for taking care of the two that passed. I humbly ask you for a tenderpaw. Thank you."

Amun was thankful of his new beta, Yuma.  He was a good dog who was quick and intelligent, and he always seemed to have a second plan if one of his backfired.  The red hound charged ahead of him and Aristeaus as they began to move to the hunting grounds, and his pointed ears were perked as he searched for any signs of life around them.  With Damara's puppies now born Amun knew they would have to up their game when it came to hunting.  Soon those puppies would be weaned off their mother's milk and be craving the delicious meat that the pack always enjoyed having.

Amun looked over at the father of the pups, chuckling as he saw his startled face.  It was clear that puppies had changed him, and Aristeaus was keen on keeping them all safe—though they both knew that it wouldn't last.  The one pup Acacia, was very sickly.  And without his shaman Amun knew the pup wouldn't make it in the harsh winter.  Of course, the winter in the desert wasn't too bad, as the sun shined upon them and only the occasional tiny flakes of hail were the signs of winter besides the earlier snowfall—which had all melted away.

He sighed, turning his head away from the collie as sadness showered his eyes.  His pack was just rising, and already Liu loomed with his fangs bared, ready to scoop up the young pup.  Amun swore that his next moonpool visit would bring him a herbalist.  They were key to the survival of the Havasolare

Swinging Blades

Number of Dogs: 15 Males_ 17 Females_ 32 Total

The border patrol was on their way back to camp. A snowstorm had picked up and the dogs didn't want to stay in the cold for much longer. Since Gracie, Verona, Duke, and Stitches all had short coats, the dogs were very cold. They walked back to camp as a group of dogs walked out of the woods. Not knowing the intentions of these dogs, the patrol prepared to fight. As they walked closer, they knew they were outnumbered.
Stitches, squinting through the snow recognized one of the dogs. "Raleigh?! Raleigh what are you doing here?!!" The small dog hopped through the snow towards his former alpha.
The airedale wagged her tail and said "Stitches! How are you doing? I found this group of dogs. They were all apart of different kennels. We are starting up a new kennel and were looking for a territory. Why don't you come join us?"
"I can't. I have joined another kennel after ours was disbanded. You are technically on our territory. Why don't you join us?"
A Beuceron stepped forward and said "I think that we would like to be on our way. I'm Persephone, the alpha of this kennel. If you don't mind, we will be heading for the mountains."
Duke stepped up also. "No you will not. The only way to go through the mountains is directly through our territory. If you don't want any trouble, you better leave or follow us to our alpha."
The two squared up, looking fiercely in each other's eyes. Gracie also took a threatening pose. The large wolfhound towered over everyone else. He growled lowly.
Stitches tried to stop the hostility. "Wait, what is everyone so upset about? We don't have to fight. Duke, these dogs could be a good addition to our pack. You don't have to chase them off. And Persephone, you could come to our camp and see our kennel. Maybe you and your new dogs will want to join. It'll be easier than trying to start another kennel in the mountains. Come on. I promise that it will be worth it."
After some consideration, Persephone said "Fine. At the very least, I can see what our border kennel will look like."
Stitches smiled and led the group back to camp.

Summer called a kennel meeting. "As you all know, there have been many additions to this kennel in the last few months. This is necessary as we are growing more powerful. With that in mind, I think that there should be a few ranking changes." Stitches walks in with his large group. Summer says "Stitches, what is the meaning of this? Why have you brought so many dogs to my camp!?"
The boston terrier answers "We found them while on patrol. A former member of my other kennel is with them. I thought that they may be good additions to the kennel."
Summer bounded up to the small dog. She hit him with her paw and he yelped. "You brought a rouge group of dogs and led them right into camp! How stupid could you get?"
Raleigh growled and said "Don't you lay a paw on my former kennelmate. He is not deserving of this treatment. Your patrol brought us here because we asked to join the kennel."
Summer tackled Raleigh to the ground and bit her neck. Growling, she yelled "You dumb b*tch! You walk into MY kennel and order me around! I could have you killed."
Stitches pleaded with Summer. "Wait, no. Please don't hurt my former alpha. She was just in shock at seeing me. I thought that I'd never see anyone from my kennel again. She didn't mean any disrespect."
"Former alpha huh?" Summer got off of Raleigh and let her stand. "Well, from now on, you are an omega. Either you take that position, or you will be run out of my territory. And if you think of coming back, I'll have you killed. Take your choice."
Raleigh noticed Stitches pleading eyes. Her ears pulled back and she answered "I am sorry for speaking out of line. I will accept the position."
"Good. Now let's get back to rankings."

Spring -- New buds of life are beginning to appear, as well as hope. The snow is slowly melting away, revealing an relieving amount of prey, but as well as new dangers. Luckily, sicknesses are less common and the chances of finding new dogs have risen. Just be cautious of the rainfall that is soon to come.

Zariana shifted uncomfortably in her nest. Despite the comfy bedding beneath her paws the feeling of being in the brood den wasn't something she was keen on. It felt wrong, as a shaman she knew it was against the laws to birth your own pups. She hadn't minded it when she was in Valiant Storms, after all, she had essentially adopted her own pup, Clover. But now, even though she was not a shaman any longer, she felt uneasy. She had always dreamed of her own pups, but now.. it felt different.
xxxxxGlancing down at her stomach, she inwardly groaned. Her stomach was growing larger. It was fuller and rounded, only pressing on to the fact that she was indeed pregnant.

She lowered her head to her paws, releasing a heavy sigh and letting her eyelids flutter to a close.

It hadn't been long until the sound of pawsteps entered her ears, and she opened her eyes to see the massive black cane corso towering over her. She let out a startled yelp, inching backwards as she stared at Spectre.

His golden eyes were round with concern, and he lowered his head to drop a rabbit in front of her.
xxxxx"Valerik said it was one of your favourites." He murmured.

Zariana sniffed at the limp piece of prey for a moment before shaking her head and curling around for her back to face him. "No thanks."
xxxxxSpectre nudged the rabbit towards her once again. "You need to eat, Zariana." He urged.
xxxxxZariana felt annoyance prickle inside her. "Since when do you care? You aren't my true mate!" She snapped.
xxxxxThe cane corso lowered himself to lay down near to her, his golden eyes calm. "I know.. But your carrying pups, so I have a right to tend to you."
xxxxxZariana didn't feel better from his comment. "I don't need your help, nor do I want it."
xxxxx"Zariana.." He pleaded. "This mate thing is hard for me too, you know. I have duties as the war admiral of Vehementi, and taking care of pups.. let alone a mate! Well.. it's hard." He nudged the rabbit closer to her again before standing up. "But I want you to be safe, I really do." He let out a slow sigh before padding away.

The wiry cairn terrier had begun to slip up, leaving traces of his scent scattered across the vehementi camp grounds. Although he hadn't thought it was much, soon enough Diablo was howling for the empire to bring back his head if they wanted to keep their own.

He hid huddled in a clump of ferns, praying to the ancestors above to be kept safe. But, unfortunately, his pleas seemed not to be heard, as a sharp volley of barks alerted him that he had been spotted. He let out a sharp bark of terror before sprinting into the foliage, trying to shake off the much bigger dog's trail.
xxxxxHe hadn't had a single chance against the apex killers. One, a male ruby and tan doberman had managed to run in front of him and two others were on each of his sides. Hopper desperately tried to run out of their corner but a brindle and white mutt leapt out and caught him, her fangs sinking into his fur and holding him back from running. Pain pierced through Hopper and he let out a yelp of defeat before being led back to their camp.

The menacing emperor sat rigid on his throne, his snake like gaze observing the tiny terrier with a dark gleam streaking his eyes. He looked at the four dogs who had trapped the male with a nod of approval.
xxxxx"Well done Caspian, Reno, Odin and Victurri." He rumbled before flicking his attention to the terrier. A cruel grin split his lips. "Now please, give him the proper Vehementi Empire prisoner experience."

Hopper looked around with wide eyes, fear earning him to tremble as the pack dogs looked at him with malicious smiles as they began to stalk towards him.
