Trying Oppie on Blue Buffalo chicken recipe.

My family seems to think Iams is the absolute best dog food out there. lol no.

Hopefully he likes this food!

He’s so darn picky. he didn’t care for the freshpet. disregarded the BB, why does he only want Iams????

For the same reason people want junk food even though they know how bad it is for them, it tastes good. Also he's used to it. Some dogs you have to be really slow in changing their food, almost kibble by kibble or spoonful by spoonful.

I’m trying to mix in freshpet with blue. nothing. he just doesn’t care.

He’s disregarding treats now, too which he’s never done.

No it won't kill oppie but for the price that blue usually cost its not worth the money plenty of other better foods around the same price as blue. Blue also had a lawsuit against them for lying about what goes into their food and they do a lot of ingredient splitting. I avoid them because I don't support them lying about their ingredient list.

My aunt has gotten bags of blue with over half a bag full of mold them before. That might be what the people on facebook are referring to.

the bag i got i investigated after I heard that, I didn’t see any trace of mold.

As long as it won’t kill him like everyone is saying on the Fit Dog group on facebook, and he ends up eating it and does good on it then i may stick with it.

my local Kroger store sells Zignature, apparently or they can order it, but it’s $15 for a 4lb bag may gotta check that out. I got Blue from my Kroger store.

The dog is marking outside as in on walks and such.

I have some other questions, all for a friend.

First of all, how do you deal with resource guarding? Not with food, but with toys? This dog isn't particularly toy motivated - they only play with toys if you get hyper and excited about said toy in front of them. My friend was playing fetch with the dog, or trying to, and went to grab the toy and got aggressively growled at.

Also, this dog pulls the leash insanely hard to the point of choking themselves, and will pull your arms out of their sockets.

The dog also isn't fully housebroken (they don't think it's ok to go in the house, as they don't have accidents frequently and they give that 'guilty dog look' when caught, but they do go in the house occasionally).

Can’t really stop a male dog from marking completely, it’s just something they do. Instead teach that marking inside is a nono and outside is okay, which is what I did with my male and he never marks in the house. He tried marking the first day we brought him home, SO caught him lifting his leg, smacked his butt and a very firm no and he hasn’t done it since. Not saying smack the dog, but just saying what worked for us.

Pulling I recommend a head collar, easy walk, or a prong collar. Used correctly, a prong won’t do any damage, whereas pulling on a flat collar can cause horrible, irreversible damage to a dog’s neck. I think a prong is scientifically proven not to cause damage to a dog's trachea, used correctly.

Housebreaking issue, same you would do for a puppy. Scheduled feedings, limited water, and crate training and schedules potty time. The main thing with adults that’s an issue with puppies is that they are capable of holding it, they just have to be taught to.

Just got an update from Embark

After the genotyping process, Embark’s genomicists receive the information for the 200,000+ markers in Olive’s DNA. What remains is a very complicated and time-intensive process of computational analysis to convert the lab readings into specific genotypes and insights for Olive. In simpler terms, our resident nerds are making progress!

Some of these analytical steps can run for several days, even on the fastest computers! This process typically takes two to four weeks, but in some cases where a dog has especially complicated genetics it can take a little longer to complete, as we check and double-check every result.

We will be in touch soon with another update. We're excited to get you Olive's results!
