Lacey is a gsd/Husky mix My neighbor isn't home, but his mother is home. Sadly, she doesn't speak a lick of english and I don't speak a lick of spanish.

one of my neighbors had a border collie mix. a medium-large dog, that was kept in a small fenced in yard all the time. (no walks, no human interaction. and this poor dog was this so hyper it killed a circle of grass in it's yard by running around on it so much) this dog died of chewing lice a few months ago.
well, the same neighbors got a new puppy not long after. they also keep this dog in the exact same area where the other dog died of chewing lice. this puppy is also always outside. i have never seen these neighbors interact with their dog or bring the dog inside. and it's clear this dog isnt for protection, (if it is it's not a good dog for the job) nor was the last one as it (and both dogs had this problem) barks at everything and nothing at all hours, and it cant escape it's yard or go into the house.

So, I need a counter argument.

Someone is using a prong(2.25mm) with rubber tips on a 3 month old puppy and says it's fine because it has the rubber tips and 'its not a full correction with the rubber tips'.

Thoughts?

In my opinion prong collars should not be used on any dog regardless of age. They are dangerous and unnecessary. Using a device that is meant to cause pain to correct a behavior to me is inhuman and unacceptable.

Prong collars are not bad in my opinion as they give a nip feeling, yes I have tried it on my own wrist and neck. Dogs will nip for correction. I obviously do not believe in excessive use or harsh use. However, that pup is a tad young for that. Most dogs will nudge or shove a young pup so I think a martingale or a harness would be the best. I started Skai on a prong at between 6 to 9 months; I don't quite remember.

If the dog has:
- Lack of shelter
- Lack of food/water
- Lack of sanitation
- Abandoned (heavily restricted from human socialisation/illegal in all 50 states)
- The animal is tied or caged
- The animal is chained

Some dogs bark and whine to express their anxiety when they’re left alone, but a dog that is howling or barking for several hours is sending a clear signal that it is in need of immediate, life-saving care.

I definitely suggest contacting an animal shelter, calling 911 or doing ANYTHING you can to help the dogs. The owners are clearly neglecting the animal, and it is honestly up to you to save them. Tell them about the past dog, and please do not allow this puppy to have the same fate.

^ that's adorable! I should grab Wick some when I go to get clippers, his nails are getting quite long.

I attempted teaching him sit today. The result was him fussing at me for not just giving him a kong full of kibble like I normally do lol. After he figured out I was only giving him one at a time he tried attacking the clicker. He's such a vocal little guy, haha. And no he isn't scared of it, he was trying to play with it, he thinks everything is a toy.

He's got the motion of sitting down when following a lure or my finger but hasn't started doing it by voice command yet. It's probably my own fault, It's hard to get the timing right when saying it.

It might help if you go back and give a refresher course on "No Mugging" as well.

Imzadi: I never heard of "no mugging"! It sounds helpful, thank you. I'll have to give it a try tomorrow before continuing sit.

His fussing is really quite adorable, he sounds like a little squeaky toy. I have to fight to ignore him when he does it.
