After the Plague

It is winter of the year 2050. A deadly plague has ravaged all of humankind, destroying the entire species within the space of a few short years. The Daestra Pandemic, as it was called, originated from a comet, streaking through and burning in Earth`s atmosphere. The sunrises were beautiful, but nobody knew what was hidden within those spectacles. Daestra was not selective; man and woman, young and old, all were afflicted.

Though humankind is gone, their legacy remains in the form of buildings, landmarks and everything they have done for their own comfort. Skyscrapers loom over the bleak, empty streets, silent and unmoving. Rows upon rows of neat houses line the avenues of the suburbs, some still with the last remains of their inhabitants inside; power plants, with nobody to man them, have burnt themselves out and now stand there, useless.

The animals and plants of the world were spared. The dogs, in particular, adapted quickly to life without their masters, managing to hunt and scavenge their way through summer and autumn. But as the days grow shorter, the real challenge presents itself. Whether or not they will survive the winter is for the Fates to judge.

Summary
A deadly plague has wiped out all of humanity, sparing the animals and plants of the earth. Winter is drawing on, and food is becoming scarce; for many dogs, this is their first winter without their masters. Some have banded together into small packs, with the strongest as the leader, and the fight for dominance can be ruthless. Many have died already, whether of starvation or by other dogs. Your goal is to eke your way through the winter, and you don't care how you do it.

Rules

Postby Inatae » Tue Apr 05, 2011 12:37 pm

The Rules
1. All of Tess' rules apply.
2. Wait to be accepted before starting.
3. No superpowers, weird colours, or dog breeds that don't exist. Unless it's a really famous breed such as a Siberian husky or a Border Collie, I'll probably Google the breed of the dog before I accept you.
4. At least 3 good sentences per post. Writer's block is always understandable; just make sure we know.On a different RP of mine, I had to define what 3 good sentences were; don't make me do that here.
5. If you're talking OOC, make use of (( )) <--- those. I don't care how many you use, or whether they're circular, square or fancy.
6. Don't kill anyone else's character without their permission.
7. If you are in a Pack, you must respect the leader. If you don't, how they punish you is up to them.
8. Up to three dogs per person.
9. Romance is accepted, but not encouraged. This is a survival RP, not a romance RP.
10. Just because this is a survival RP doesn't mean your dog has to be big. Small dogs can also do quite well when it comes to surviving, and they can be quite useful sometimes.
11. I don't have a codeword, and I don't have a blacklist. Don't make me start one.

Loners
iRabid wrote:Username: iRabid
Character Name: Paris
Character Nickname: none
Age: 6 months (in real life, she's about 2 months)
Gender: Female
Breed: Pure Breed Shih-Tzu
Rank: Loner
Appearance: (no current pic) Pure black with brown eyes and a green collar with purple squares on it. She has a small white marking on her chest.
Personality: Paris is full of energy and definatly still a pup. She doesn't believe that the humans are gone, just on vacation that they will return from. She's naive and easily distracted. She isn't trained for anything and tends to do her own thing with out caring what others think.
History: Paris grew up in a typical Shih-Tzu kennel and quickly trusted the humans. When the humans dissappeared for over a week, the kennel dogs started to get worried about what would happen to them. One of the dogs that tended to think negatively started saying they would die from starvation. Not knowing what that was, Paris thought it was a good thing that was outside the kennel so she managed to wiggle her small body out of the cage bars to see what was outside. All the dogs inside the kennel told her no, but Paris was curious about the world outside the kennel. Everything seemed fine, just a lack of humans. As she romped out of the yard, the small black pup soon started the event of survival.
Mate: None
Crush: None
Pups: Paris is one.
Picture: Sadly, she is my real life dog and I don't have any current pictures of her at the moment. Pure black with brown eyes and a green collar with purple squares on it. She has a small white marking on her chest.

Character Name: Bailey

Age: Fiteen months.
Gender: Male
Breed: {Springer Spaniel} XX {Pointer x Water Spaniel}
Rank: Pack 1; Member
Description: Flickr set
Personality: Having the life Bailey had, he’s not really scared by it. He loves to believe in humans, no matter how much others would say they aren't real. He’s grown with a dream of escaping these walls to live with humans; trying to keep his hopes high. He’s quite clever, always finding genius ways to hide the food he does. He will usually bunk down in one spot for a night, and then find another the next day. Though he’s extremely loyal, the dog doesn’t like speaking to others much unless he’s completely comfortable around them. He’s always hunting for other dogs; gluing his nose to the pavement and stalking them for a few days before he goes up to say hi. Overall, Bailey is a friendly dog. He loves the attention of others and, though he can be cautious, will never be seen without his tail wagging.
History: Bailey, like most dogs, grew up on the streets from generations of offspring. He grew up with legends of humans; legends he loved to hear. He would purposely act up just to be told a story about what the humans did when they inhabited these streets. Learning the ropes of these streets and hunting was in his blood; so it all came naturally to him. When it was time for him to fly the coop, he did it willingly; often telling his stories to other dogs with gleaming eyes.

Character Name: Dazie.
Character Nickname: Dazie, possibly piggy because of her nose color.
Age: Five Years.
Gender: Female.
Breed: Mutt Mix - Poodle, Terrier, unknown.
Rank: Pack 1 - Member.
Appearance: Pictures above. Dazie is a rather petite dog, with curly poodle-like creame fur that covers her body, it's usually is some sort of knot somewhere. She has very thick bangs, and her face resembles some sort of terrier as it retains it's puppy nature. Her tail fans out much like a saluki's would, and her ears are flopped over at her side, they fall close to the end of her cheek. She has a dull pink nose, and mixed gray and pink paw pads, her skin is also a very plump pink as well. Dazie is small, only coming up about a foot to her haunches, and appears to be slightly pudgy, but her fur is rather thick, so in actuality she is very slim and could easily break something like a leg.
Personality: Despite Dazie's small size, she's a rather snippy and agitated dog. She has an extreme loud bark that she enjoys using to scare off others, though as most dogs are - "Her bark is worse than her bite". She will lash out curtly whether you tower over her or not, but she is quick to learn her lesson with other dominant dogs and will gladly back down if a returning attack is present. She lacks key social skills amongst fellow canines because of her weaning at such a young age, and may come off as unusual or weird. She's very protective, and attached very easily. Dazie tends to keep her lead in sticky situations, but she's usually hyper and it may not seem that way.
History: Dazie was born on a puppy mill in El Paso, Texas, she was taken with her three siblings, at only two weeks, to be sold out to families that didn't understand the dangerous and cruel ways of puppy mills. Luckily enough for Dazie, puppies were loved by all people, and she was sold quickly in the Wal-Mart parking lot of Glenwood Colorado. To this day she did not know why the lady brought her so far up north, but she was thankful when a kind hearted girl took her away from the lady. So Dazie grew up with a loving family, replacing her siblings with the children, and her parents with the human adults. She barely knew how to interact with dogs, her only true socialization was with the family's grandmother's shit-zu, Harely. When the plague struck Dazie was left abandoned quickly, and she ran from the humans, and larger dogs, starting to try to catch a hang of being a stray. After a few tricks were stuffed under her sleeve, Dazie found her pack, and quickly joined as a member.

It takes him a while to get used to dogs that are bigger than he is, but once he's used to them, he will play until he can't anymore.
History:
Jake was born and raised in the same small town in Colorado. He was a well-loved member of the family, and when the epidemic struck, he could sense almost instantly that something was wrong. When his family members stopped coming home, Jake chewed his way out of the house and was free.

whiteouthorizon wrote:Username: whiteouthorizon
Character Name: Serena
Character Nickname: None
Age: 2 1/2 years
Gender: Female
Breed: Blue Lacy
Rank: Leader
Appearance: Serena is predominantly charcoal-coloured, with a small white dash on her chest. She has long, slender legs, capable of running great speeds, and chocolate-coloured eyes that seem to bore right through your soul, but not see anything. Her coat is quite short, but sufficient to keep her at least somewhat warm, although whether or not it will last through the winter is a difficult question to answer.
Personality: She is cold and commanding, they type of dog you wouldn't want to cross. Merciless in her revenge, she will stop at nothing to get what she wants; murder, to her, is like killing a mouse. Nonetheless, if you are loyal to her, you will have her protection for as long as you can maintain it. Although she is not friendly with many dogs, she does have a level of respect for others, especially those who have managed to claw their way up into the position of leadership.
Her temper is dreadful, too. It takes very little to set her off on a rampage, and calming her down is an almost-hopeless task. Those who have tried rarely escape without a scar or two to add to their collection, and they know it's no use complaining to her about it. Many await her death eagerly, in hopes that the new leader will be milder; however, they may have a while to wait, as Serena hangs onto life grittily, unwilling to leave before it's her time.
History: Serena was not always the harsh, cold character she is now. Born into a litter of 3 pups, she and her littermates were sent to different homes the moment they could toddle about. Her new master, though he wasn't affectionate to her, treated her well, never forgetting to feed her and always making sure she was in top condition before setting her out to work. She spent a year or so living like this, before she was shipped off to another master, as this one had run out of money and couldn't afford to keep her any more.
Her new master was a rigid disciplinarian, constantly using the whip on his dogs whenever they slacked. Their rations were quite small, as well, ad many of the dogs would steal and fight with each other for the sake of a small scrap of meat. Bitter from being abandoned by her last master, Serena soon learned the ways of the new habitat, and she gradually managed to gain dominance over all the dogs. Even so, she never had a full stomach.
This master caught Daestra within a year of Serena's arrival, and all of the dogs, even their leader, starved. Many died, and were removed before they could be eaten by the others; the team eventually dwindled to two dogs, one of them Serena, who realized that if they were to stay, they would go the same way as the others. Serena had managed to get into the city, where provisions were much more ample, and she has been here to this day.

Character Nickname: Ram
Age: 3 1/2
Gender: Male
Breed: Greyhound
Rank: Beta
Appearance: Typical black tuxedo greyhound, tall lean and thin. Weighs about 85 lbs.
Personality: Ram is a laid back kind of dog. He is strong and self assured and finds little reason to prove himself. Thus he will probably never be the alpha of a pack due to lack of initiative. He has a great appreciation of power and those who wield it well, as well as a contempt for those who flaunt it and have nothing to back it up. Ram is quick to put such dogs in their place. He is also extremely competitive from his former life, and can't stand the thought of someone trying to best him at anything.
History: Ram was a racing greyhound. At 3 years old, he was in his prime. Fully trained and at the peak of health he was a promising racer. He was left with about 20 other dogs in the turnout pen of their kennels when the humans died and never came back. Working together they managed to push down the fence and escape the certain death of being trapped without food. Having been trained by the humans to essentially chase down and kill prey, the hounds did quite well for themselves in the wild at first. Hunting small game on their own and working together to take down larger animals. However, even with humans gone, it proved to be impossible for a group of 20 dogs to find enough prey to feed all of them. Therefore, the pack split up into about six groups and went their separate ways. The group that Ram was in decided that the best course of action would be to head towards the city where hopefully there would be more food and human leftovers. The little pack found this to be a truly monumental task and members were lost one by one, until the only dog remaining to make it to the city was Ram.
Mate: None. There was a dog that Ram used to adore in the kennels, Aurora, but he was forced to leave her trapped behind the bars of her cage when he escaped.
Crush: None.
Pups: None
Other: (If it is alright, I would like for Ram to be part of Serena's pack. Your choice if he is already there or meets her and joins.)
